The Galapagos Islands are located 972 km off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean. The islands are known for their unique endemic flora and fauna that draws many visitors each year. the unique archipelago and its endemic flora and fauna.

A popular food on the coasts of Ecuador and the Galapagos is the Viche, a kind of very thick soup made with fish and served with green plantains.

Fried Fish, is a dish with garlic shrimp or breaded, and

also contains squid and crab

Seafood is the basis of their dishes

Although not know the exact name, it is also typical

fish dish specially prepared with coconut milk and accompanied with green banana and corn.

Ceviche: Come prepared with orange juice, lemon and

onions, usually comes with shrimp but also can find conch ceviche, fish and mixed. Served with popcorn, toast and banana chips.

Galapagos is a place that can be visited at any time.

The climate in the Galapagos Islands is subtropical and is regulated by the warm current of El Nio and the cold Humboldt current causing two seasons.

The warmer temperature is between December and

May, with the sky most of the time clear and the sun shining brightly.

However, if you want to explore the wonderful

underwater world of the islands, the best time to visit the Galapagos Islands is from June to November. During this season the weather is a bit cool, but it offers the best opportunity to meet famous people in the Galapagos Marine Reserve.

Spanish is the official language majority of Ecuador

and the Galapagos. Furthermore Quechua and other indigenous languages have great presence given the importance of these groups in the country. But English is spoken nearly everywhere

Galapagos is a World Heritage Site and Biosphere

Reserve. Charles Darwin made here many of the studies that led him to publish his "Origin of Species". The isolation of the Galapagos helped him observe how species evolved to suit their environment and formulate his theory of evolution.

Charles Darwin Biological Station still working on the

research and protection of this unique ecosystem. One of its most famous is a sea of nearly one hundred years it is the only survivor of a kind. It is known as Lonesome George.

Lonesome George was the last known specimen of the

species Chelonoidis abingdonii, a species of giant tortoise from the Galapagos Islands (Ecuador). It was a male and died on June 24, 2012, leaving no children despite many attempts, which suggested that the species Chelonoidis abingdonii is definitely extinct.

The giant tortoises of the Galapagos Islands usually

live between 80 and 130 years, and sometimes more
