Nalanda is part of the periods of Lord Mahavira and Lord Buddha during the 6th century.
It is also reputed for being the birthplace of Sariputra, a close follower of Lord Buddha. The city has been a major center for Buddhism as well because of the fact that Lord

Buddha is believed to have visited Nalanda several times.

The contemporary Nalanda was formed on 6th November 1972
