Computer Storage Devices

This presentation discusses different computer storage devices. It begins with an introduction to storage devices and their purpose to retain data, instructions, and information. Then, it describes the two main types of storage - primary and secondary. Primary storage includes RAM and cache, which temporarily hold data during use. Secondary storage, like hard disks and floppy disks, can hold data regardless of power. Examples of offline secondary storage are floppy disks, flash drives, and memory cards. Specific storage capacities of CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray disks, USB drives, and hard drives are provided. The presentation concludes that both primary and secondary storage devices are useful for storing and transferring data between computers.

Introduction to computer storage devices

Storage devices: Storage devices retain items such as data, instructions, and information for retrieval and future use They include floppy disks or diskettes, hard disks, compact discs (both read-only and discrecordable), tapes, PC cards, Smart Cards, microfilm, and microfiche.

Types & function of storage devices

A storage device is a hardware device designed to store information There are two types of storage devices used in computers; a 'primary storage' device and a 'secondary storage' device primary storage is a storage location that holds memory for short periods of times while the computer is on

Types & function of storage devices(contd)

computer RAM and cache are both examples of a primary storage device

This type of storage is the fastest type of memory in your computer and is used to store data while it's being used

Types & function of storage devices(contd)

secondary storage is a storage medium that holds information until it is deleted or overwritten regardless if the computer has power a floppy disk drive and hard disk drive are secondary storage devices Off line storage Term used to describe any type of storage that is removable and cannot be accessed by the computer once removed.

Types & function of storage devices(contd)

A

floppy disk, flash drive & memory card are the examples of offline storage devices.

Storage devices
Flash

& USB drives : these drives are very compact and easy to carry

It

comes with different storage capacity

E.g. 1GB to 16GB pen drives are available & in USB hard drive 125Gb to 1Tb

Storage devices

Cd, Dvd & blu ray disk these are the devices which stores the limited data in it Cd storage capacity 700mb Dvd stores 4Gb in single layered & double lay stores 8Gb While newly launched Blu ray disk stores three times more data It stores 25Gb in single layered & 50Gb in double layered

Conclusion
These

storage devices both primary & secondary devices are useful to store the valuable data and it can be transfer easily from one pc to other pc
