ICD and CFS

A Container Freight Station (CFS) is an off-dock facility located near a port that helps decongest ports by handling some customs processes like goods examination. An Inland Container Depot (ICD) is a dry port located inland that can temporarily store containers and provide port services closer to customers. ICDs mainly handle full container loads moving to and from ports, while CFSs are located near ports and help with customs processes. Some major ICDs in North India include facilities in Delhi, Agra, Ludhiana, Moradabad, and Kanpur.

Container Freight Station: A CFS is an extension of a port/airport/Customs station/FTWZ, set up with the main objective of decongesting the ports,

where only a part of the customs process mainly the examination of goods is normally carried out by Customs.

Inland Container Depot: Inland Container Depots, otherwise known as ICDs, are dry ports equipped for handling and temporary storage of containerized cargo as well as empties. This means that hinterland customers can receive port services more conveniently closer to their premises.

Difference b/w ICD and CFS: Basis Location Inland Container Depot In the Interiors, away from the servicing port Container Freight Station It is an off dock facility located next the servicing port.

Function Largely deals with full container load which is aggregated for onward movement to or from the ports. Also serves as a destination for custom related activities.
