The Army Reserve Command, known officially as the ARESCOM or RESCOM, (Tagalog: Pangasiwaan ng Panlaang Kawal ng Hukbong Katihan)

(PPKHK) is one the Philippine Army's Major Support Commands created for the sole purpose of Reserve Force management, procurement, and organization.

The St. Anthony's College High School Citizens Army Training-1 Unit was activated on the 14th of June 1973 pursuant to Section 13, Article XV of the Philippine Constitution of 1973, entitled Act No. 569; and National Defense Act, as amended by the National Service Law. The organization was later renamed as Citizenship Advancement Training-1 Unit under the Revised Rules and Regulations of the National Service Law, Section 7, Rule No. II (General Provisions), dated 4 December 2001.

ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION

To train and develop graduating high school students in order to become holistic, versatile, and law-abiding citizens in the future.

ORGANIZATIONAL OBJECTIVES (Revised, POI for CAT through DECS Bulletin No. 1 s. 1992 dtd. March 3, 1992)

1) To commit themselves for the preservation and defense of our country. 2) To acquire and enhance self-discipline in school and in the larger community.

3) To manifest moral values and traits such as respect for law and order, respect for lawful authority, and self-reliance. 4) To acquire basic information, knowledge and skills for effective community service.

ORGANIZATION

The unit is organized into one (1) battalion, which is composed of two (2) companies: the Alpha Company, Bravo Company, and Headquarters Company. There are two (2) platoons in each company, and four (4) squads of seven (7) men frontage in each platoon.

PROGRAM OF INSTRUCTION

Generally, the Program of Instruction is intended to provide a standard procedure and guidance in conducting the CAT program. Basic military science subjects covers the whole instruction syllabus. CAT instructors assigned are rendering duties to the unit for CAT class instructions every Friday. Lectures and demonstrations are held at the SAC High School CIMC, and practical exercises of drills and ceremonies at the SAC football field.

The Battalion Commander is the highest cadet officer in the organization. He is responsible for the planning, development, and execution of the CAT organizational functions. The Battalion Commander is assisted by the Battalion Executive Officer. The Ex-O exercises general supervision over the general, special, administrative, and technical staff services of the unit. The Battalion Adjutant or Administrative Officer is charged with the operating functions such as information dissimination. He is charged with the principal function of handling all official correspondence, and for the preservation & administration of the unit's permanent records.

Halos lahat ng mga Pilipinong mag-aaral na nagtapos ng hayskul at kolehiyo ay pinagdaanan ang preliminaryo na militaryong pagsasanay. Ito ay ang Cadet Officers Candidate Course (COCC), Citizen's Advancement Tranining (CAT), para sa hayskul at ang Reserved Officers' Training Corps, para sa kolehiyo. Ang mga pagsasanay na ito ay isinasatupad sa pampibliko at priobadong paaralan. Ito ay kadalasang kasama sa kurikulo ng hayskul at opsyonal naman sa kolehiyo. Dahil nagsasanay ang mga estudyante ilang oras sa isang linggo, hindi na nila kinakailangang lumayo pa at umalis sa kanilang ng isang taon upang magsanay lamang. Nilalaman [itago]

Prinisipyo Ang CAT ay dating kilala sa tawag na Citizen's Army Training at Preparatory Military Training o PMT, ilang dekada ng nakakaraan. Mag-iba man ito ng katawagan, ang prinsipyo at pagsasanay nito ay hindi nagbabago. Ang layunin ay sanayin ang mga kabataan sa pamamaraan ng military discipline and skills. Ito man ay kinakailangang kunin ng esudyante, mayroon namang ibang hindi pinapayagang sumailalim sa pagsasanay tulad ng mga mag-aaral na may pisikal na kapansanan o di kaya ay nirekomenda ng doktor na unfit na sumali sa pagsasanay. Ito man ang maging sitwasyon, hindi siya exempted sa subject at sasailalim siya ng ibang gawain na hindi kinakailangang mapagog ng labis tulad ng pagsuri ng attendance, paglilinis, at iba pa.

Ang mga Pilipinong estudyante na tatangging sumailalim sa CAT o sa ROTC ay hindi papayagang makapagtapos. Sa kasalukuyan, ang ROTC ay isa sa mga pwedeng pagpiliian para sa compulsory na National Service Training Programme (NSTP), ang dalawa dito ay ang Citizen Welfare Training Service (CWTS) at ang Literacy Training Service (LTS). Kinakailangang ma-kumpleto ng mga magaaral ang 6 na yunit ng NSTP upang maging kwalipikado sa pagtatapos. Depende sa paaralan, ang pagsasanay ay maaring nasa direksyon ng hukbong katihan, hukbong pandagat o hukbong panghimpapawid. Pagsasanay Ang mga pagsasanay sa ilalim ng kursong ito ay ang sumusunod:

Serbisyo sa Komunidad - ay isang aktibidad na tumutulong sa pagkamit ang kapakanan at paginam ng buhay ng miyembro ng komunidad lalo na sa pagpapabuti ng kalusugan, edukasyon, kaligtasan, paglilibang at sigla ng mamamayan.
