Power Command Networks

Cummins devices typically use two types of network systems to the outside world (BMS, SCADA) Legacy controls require a separate network card and use LonMaker software to configure. New controls come ready to communicate over Modbus and PCCNet native to the controls no additional hardware and no configuration work is required.

This communication may be needed to:


Monitor the performance of different devices/equipment in a sub-system or a system remotely Control different devices/equipment in a sub-system or system Master/Slave, Redundant Get a holistic view of multiple systems

BUS: A linear connection of devices (Daisy-chain)
Easy to install and troubleshoot Single point of failure

RING: A circular architecture with no break in wiring


Reliable Expensive, harder to install, Not always possible

STAR: Devices all connect to a central hub


Easies to install Hub single point of failure

COMBINATION: A mixture of the three above topologies

Difference between FTT-10 and PCCNet Networks


Networks using old controls require a separate network card and use LonMaker software to configure
PowerCommand 2100*, 3100 and 3201 communicate with a LonWorks interface card
Modlon II gateway converts Lon data to Modbus

The new controls come ready to communicate over Modbus and PCCNet.
PowerCommand 1.X, 2.X and 3.3 have Modbus and PCCNet native to the controls No additional hardware and no configuration work is required.
*PCC2100 does support PCCNet

Key difference between the two is in the connection
iWatch100 Customer is responsible for establishing and
maintaining an ethernet connection. Could be corporate WAN or internet. iWatch Wireless - Cummins maintains cellular or satellite connection to web server.

Connecting over a corporate WAN


iWatch products can work behind a corporate

Remote users can still connect via VPN.


Emails and pages can still be delivered through the firewall. Benefit is that customers can take full advantage of corporate ethernet security features
