HYDRAULIC PERFORMANCE TEST PROGRAM

The ETEC’s hydraulic performance test program was developed in accordance with
Standards of the Hydraulics Institute ANSI/HI 2.6 – 1994, Vertical Pump Test and complies
with requested AS ISO 9906:2018, ISO 9906:2012

During scaled model testing a single stage scaled model test representation will cover the
pump curve area to cover head range in D1, D2, D4, D5, D6 and D7 duty points which are
considered the normal and most relevant working areas for the pump. For Pump test
acceptance grade 2 of the scaled model only D4 duty point is to be selected as the
acceptance duty point. A single stage scale model pump with half the head to represent a
two stage pump and following AS ISO8806:2018, ISO 9906:2012 guidelines is to be
tested. For scaled model testing NSPHA should be equal or less than the instalation pump
drawings for the +0.00 level for ordinary operation. Therefore no NPSHR further testing will
be required according to 5.8.2.4 Type IV verification in AS ISO8806:2018, ISO 9906:2012.

1. TEST BENCH FACILITIES.

Test Bench Facilities was designed and constructed to provide uniform conditions
for the hydraulic performance test, under the followings requirements of ANSI/HI 2.6
– 1994 Vertical Pumps Test Standards.
General layout of Vertical Pump, discharge pipe, venturi meter, discharge restriction
valve, gear box and diesel engine is shown in graphic 1 below.

2. COMPONENTS TECHICAL DATA

DRIVE: Caterpillar Diesel Engine, 247 kW continuous power
TRANSMISSION: Gear Box ratios 3.0 / 2.0
PUMP: ETEC Axial Flow Vertical 24” – 600 mm Full sized.
The axial flow pump used in Test Bench is a real full size equipment 24” – 600 mm internal
diameter. The pump has one 24inch M type impeller. To simulate duty point of the two stage
pump the duty point TDH is divided by the number of stages. The installation is in a tank
with Open Suction.

Separated test were conducted for each one of the three Impellers type, under ANSI/HI 2.6.6
TEST SETUP.
The layout and dimensions of the vertical pump is in accordance with ANSI/HI 2.6.6.4 PUMP
TEST CONFIGURATION, Section a. is shown below.
RESCTRICTION VALVE: A restriction valve is used at the discharge end of the pipe to
produce the hydraulic head in the pipeline system.
3. MEASUREMENTS
CAPACITY MEASUREMENTS: For the Capacity Measurements a Venturi Meter is used.
The venture is in accordance with ANSI/HI 2.6.13.5 – Table 1
HEAD MEASUREMENTS: The Head Measurements are made in accordance with ANSI/HI
2.6.14, using an external loop manifold for connect the pressure taps accordingly whit
Fig.2.6.20.

ROTARY SPEED MEASUREMENTS: The rotary speed measurements are made using a
tachometer in accordance with ANSI/HI 2.6.14 which defines accuracy of +/- 0.3%
POWER MEASUREMENTES: The power measurements are made using a torque meter in
accordance with ANSI/HI 2.6.15 which defines accuracy of +/- 1.5%. Power value is
calculated from torque and speed lectures obtained in the run test.

4. PERFOMANCE TEST CONDUCTED FOR ETEC IMPELLERS.

A complete hydraulic performance test for the 24” impeller series was made in the Test
Bench in Cartagena, Colombia ETEC’s Plant between April and October 2007.
The result produced the Hydraulic Performance Curves for ETEC axial flow pumps impellers
of sizes 12”, 16”, 20”, 24”, 30”, 36”, 42”, 60”, 72”.
The model test pumps is a pump 24” – 600 mm diameter with full size dimensions in all its
components. This serves as model for extrapolation of test results to the other´s dimensional
equivalents sizes.
The 24”-600 mm test model has complete hydraulic geometry similarity with the extrapolated
models.
5. DIMENSIONAL SCALING OF IMPELLERS TO OTHER EXTRAPOLED SIZES
The hydraulic design was developed using 3D CAD resources, the extrapolated impellers
have hydraulic geometry similarity with the tested model are obtained scaling the original
model.
The original model impeller for metal casting was constructed using stereolithography 3d
printer method which guarantee the geometrical precision of shape. The other extrapolated
models follow the same method for its construction.
The scaling method follows ANSI/HI 2.6.20.1 for these diameters dimensions which includes
