Matrices

The document provides an overview of matrices, defining them as arrays of numbers organized into rows and columns. It discusses various types of matrices, such as row, column, square, and identity matrices, along with operations like addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Additionally, it highlights the conditions under which these operations can be performed and includes a note on matrix notation and dimensions.

MATRICES

MATRICES

Matrices is array of numbers organized into

rows and colums
MATRICES INREAL LIFE
ORDER OF MATRICE/ MATRICE DIMENTION

The order of a matrice is

determined by the number of
rows and number of
columns.

An m x n matrice is a
matrice with m rows and n
column and it is called a
matrice of order m x n.
NOTATION

A matrice is usually
shown by a capital
letter ( such as A or B)

Each entry or element is

shown by a lower case
letter with a subscript
of row, column.
TYPES OF MATRICE
ROW MATRICE

A Rectangular array with a

row
COLUMN MATRICE

A Rectangular matrice with a

column.
SQUARE MATRICE

A square matrix has the same

number of rows as colums.
LOWER TRIANGULAR MATRICE

All entries above the main

diagonal are zero
UPPER TRIANGULAR
MATRICE

All entries below the main

diagonal are zero
DIAGONAL MATRICE

All elements not located on the

main diagonal are equal to zero
SCALAR MATRICE

All main diagonal entries are the

sama and elements not located
on the main diagonal are equal
to zero
ZERO MATRIX (NULL
MATRIX)

All elements are equal to zero

IDENTITY MATRICE

All main diagonal entries are 1

and elements not located on the
main diagonal are equal to zero
TRANSPOSE
MATRICE

Converting rows to colums
