Tenali Ramakrishnan was a jester in the court of
Krishnadevaraya. He was from a place in Andhra
Pradesh called Tenali. There are many stories to tell
us how he made fun of people.
One day the king told Tenali Rama “I want to give you
a horse. Take good care of it. I am going to send an
official after some time to see the horse. Take the
horse with you”. Tenali Rama took the horse home
with him that evening. He tied the horse in a small
room with only one window to it. Every day he gave
the horse a handful of grass through that window.
After a few days, the horse became very hungry. One
day, an officer with a long beard came to see the
horse. When he put his face near the window, the
horse mistook his beard for grass and tried to eat it.

Once upon a time, there lived a monkey on a forest. The
monkey was very intelligent and behaved very nicely
with everyone. There was a river near the tree. A
crocodile lived in that river. One day the crocodile came
near the tree and saw the monkey eating delicious fruit.
The crocodile was very hungry. He begged the monkey,
“My friend, I am hungry. Please give me some fruits to
eat”.
The monkey was moved at the request of the crocodile,
and threw some fruits to the crocodile. The crocodile ate
the fruits and thanked the monkey. Very soon both of
them became very good friends. They ate fruits together.
One day the monkey asked the crocodile, “Who else is
there in your family?” The crocodile replied, “Only me
and my wife”. “Then why don’t you take some fruits to
your wife?” suggested the monkey. The crocodile agreed
to take some fruits to his wife. The crocodile’s wife was

This story is based on the famous play “Merchant of Venice”,
written by Shakespeare. Ananda was a merchant in
Bangalore. He had a friend by name Bharat. Bharat needed
money to marry Parvathy, a rich and beautiful lady. So, he
asked Ananda to help him get some money. Ananda had
another friend by name Srikanth who was also a merchant.
He was a cruel man.
When Ananda asked Srikanth for a sum of three thousand
rupees, he agreed to give the money in exchange for a bond
signed by Ananda. According to this bond, the strange
penalty was that Ananda had to give a piece of flesh from his
body if he did not repay the money within 3 months. Ananda
agreed to sign the bond because he was confident of giving
back the money within 3 months.
Three months passed and Ananda did not make any money
from business. Ananda was unable to repay Srikanth, who
filed a case against Ananda claiming a piece of flesh from
Ananda’s body. In the court, the judge wanted to help
Ananda. He instructed Srikanth to take a piece of flesh from
Ananda’s body without a drop of blood. Since this was not
possible, Ananda’s life was saved.

Once upon a time, there lived a wood-cutter named Alibaba.
Every morning he went to the forest to cut wood. He
returned in the evening and sold the wood in the market.
One day while he was cutting wood in the forest, he heard
some sound. Several men came riding on horses. Alibaba
saw them and got frightened. He thought they were robbers.
He hid himself among the thick bushy branches of the tree.
Forty men and their leaders dressed in black clothes. They
got off their horses and tied them to a tree. Their leader
went near a cave and said, “Open sesame”. The cave
suddenly opened. The leader went inside the cave and all
others followed him carrying bags. Alibaba was extremely
vigilant and watched all this from a distance. After some
time all forty men came out of the cave. The leader again
said “Close sesame”. The door of the cave closed behind him.
They went away speedily on their horses.
Alibaba waited for some time till they were out of sight.
Then he went inside the cave after saying “Open sesame”.
He was excited to see heaps of gold coins, precious
diamonds, silver objects, silk clothes, and many more items
inside the cave. He took some of them and came out quickly
he did not forget to say “Close sesame”. Thus a poor wood-
cutter became a rich man.

There are several wildlife sanctuaries and national parks in
India. Some of them are Kanha national park in Madhya
Pradesh, Corbett national park in Uttarkhand, Kaziranga
national park in Assam, Gir national park in Gujarat and
Bandipur national park in Karnataka.
One hot summer morning a forest officer was driving
through the Bandipur forest. He spotted from a distance a
group of animals drinking water at a large water pool. There
were spotted deer quenching their thirst and frolicking
merrily. The forest officer was attracted by this beautiful
site. As he was trying to adjust his camera, one of the deer
saw him and let out a deafening yell in terror and bolted into
the forest. All the animals understood that there was a
danger to their lives and ran away. In a minute all of them
had disappeared. The mere site of a man was a danger signal
to them. He was disappointed on not being able to take
some photographs of deers.
He drove further in the forest and saw some rare trees such
as sandalwood, roseweed, ebony and mahogany. He also
saw several bisons, monkeys, squirrels and colorful birds. He
wished to see tigers and elephants. To his luck a herd of
elephants walked past his vehicle. This time the officer was
quick to take a picture of elephants. As it was getting dark,
he decided to return back. He carefully drove back without
disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the forest.
