SCIENCE PROJECTS (Class 9th)

PROJECT - 1: BIOLOGY

Topic: Structural Organization of Plant Cell & Animal Cell

Activity: Endosmosis & Exosmosis in Raisins

Introduction:

Cells are the basic units of life. Both plant and animal cells have different structures and functions.

Differences Between Plant Cell and Animal Cell:

| Feature | Plant Cell | Animal Cell |

|-------------|-----------------|-----------------|

| Cell Wall | Present | Absent |

| Shape | Rectangular | Round |

| Vacuole | Large, Central | Small, Many |

| Chloroplast | Present | Absent |

Activity - Osmosis in Raisins:

Material: 2 raisins, 2 glasses of water (plain & sugar solution)

Procedure:

- Soak 1 raisin in plain water - swells up = Endosmosis

- Soak 1 raisin in sugar water - shrinks = Exosmosis

Conclusion: Water moves in or out through the semi-permeable membrane by osmosis.

PROJECT - 2: PHYSICS

Topic: Spillage of Water on Tray - Newton's Laws & Inertia

Activity:

Place a glass full of water on a tray. Turn the tray quickly.

Observations:

Water spills when tray is turned fast due to sudden direction change.

Which Inertia?

Inertia of Direction - Water resists change in its direction, so it spills.

Newton's First Law:

An object remains in its state unless acted upon by external force.

Here, water continues in straight line while tray turns -> spills.

Type of Force Involved:

- Centrifugal force

- Friction between tray and glass

PROJECT - 3: CHEMISTRY

Topic: Properties of True Solution, Suspension, and Colloid

Aim:

To prepare and compare true solution, suspension, and colloid.

Materials:

Salt, sugar, soil, sand, starch, milk, egg white, water, 6 glasses, filter paper.

Procedure:
- True: Mix salt or sugar in water -> clear

- Suspension: Mix soil or sand in water -> settles

- Colloid: Mix starch or milk in water -> stable but cloudy

Observation Table:

| Property | True Solution | Suspension | Colloid |

|---------------|----------------|--------------|--------------|

| Transparency | Transparent | Opaque | Translucent |

| Filterability | Passes easily | Blocked | Partially |

| Stability | Very stable | Unstable | Stable |

| Tyndall Effect| Not visible | Sometimes | Visible |

Conclusion:

Different types of mixtures have different properties based on particle size and behavior.
