Physics Puzzles

The document presents a series of physics-related questions and thought experiments, including scenarios involving coffee cooling, the effect of a fly taking off from a scale, the behavior of balls connected by a string, and the effective resistance in a cube of resistors. It also includes questions in Hungarian about the specific heat of two identical spheres and measuring fever in a hot environment. These problems encourage critical thinking and application of physical principles.

Cuppa conundrum
You are in a rush to work. You pour yourself a cup of black coffee, but it is too hot. You intend to add a fixed amount of cold milk to it,
but you know that even after that, the coffee will need to cool down for a few minutes before you can drink it.
In which case does the coffee cool down more:
 Add milk right away, then wait a few minutes before drinking.
 Wait a few minutes, then add milk just before drinking.
2. Fly away
A fly has landed at the bottom of a glass that is sitting on an a very sensitive digital scale. All of a sudden the
fly takes off. What happens to the readout on the scale?
 it goes up
 it goes down
3. Bounding balls
A weightless string connects two identical metal balls. The middle of the string is over the edge of a table. You
let go of both balls at the same time. What will happen sooner: ball 1 flying off the table or ball 2 hitting its
side?
4. A Cube of Resistors
Consider 12 identical resistors connected to form a cube. That is, each resistor lies on the edge of a cube, and there is an electrical
connection joining three resistors at each of the cube’s eight vertices. What is the effective resistance between two vertices across a body
diagonal of the cube?
5. Két azonos anyagú és nagyságú gömböm van. Az egyiket lelógatom a plafonról, a másikat meg ráteszem az asztalra. Melyiknek
nagyobb a fajhője?
6. 40°C-os sivatagban az itthoni higanyos lázmérővel hogy lehet lázat mérni?
