THE FLUFFY
VEST
BY: Katr_Crochet
INTRODUCTION
The Fluffy Vest is a simple and lightweight crochet vest, perfect for any occasion.
With beginners in mind, the vest is made to measure and primarily utilizes the single
crochet stitch.
YOU WILL NEED
Light-weight mohair yarn (I used Diablo from Hobbii for the sample vest)
The reference vest, a size S, requires approximately 4 skeins of 50g each. Use
two strands simultaneously
A size 6 mm crochet hook
Scissors
Stitch markers
Measuring tape
*US terms
ABBREVIATIONS
St = Stitch
Ss = Slip stitch

INSTRUCTIONS
Front panel
Determine the width of your vest by taking your bust measurement and dividing it in
half. If you prefer a more oversized look, feel free to add additional centimeters to
this measurement.
To begin, create a slip knot on your hook using two strands of yarn. Chain a length
that matches the width measurement calculated above. Ensure the chain is pretty
loose to maintain a straight appearance for the vest.
Row 1: Sc 1 into the second stitch from the hook, and then sc 1 into each chain
space until you reach the end of the row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc 1 into the first stitch and continue with 1 sc into every stitch until the
end of the row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3-X: Repeat Row 2 until you achieve a "square" that reaches the desired
length from your armpits down towards your hips. Do not fasten off.
Note: Remember to crochet very loosely to create a lighter appearance.
Shaping the armpits
To shape the armpits, you will make decreases in the upcoming rows. In the example
vest, decreases were made at the beginning and end of the next 6 rows, but you can
adjust the number based on your body shape and size.
Start reducing by sc 1 into the second st of the previous row and sc 1 into each
st until you reach the second to last st of the row. Skip the second st and sc 1
into the last st of the row. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat this process for as many rows as needed to shape your armpit. Keep in
mind to decrease at BOTH the start and end of each row.
2
Chest
After the decreases, you want to make the chest-part, which is made in the same
way as the waist/beginning part - meaning only straight rows.
Sc into the first st, sc to the end of the row, ch 1 and turn.
Repeat this until you reach your clavicle. Don’t fasten off.
Remember to leave space around your neck for the ribbed edge, which will be
approximately 1-2 cm. Also, ensure that the opening of the vest is large enough for
your head to comfortably pass through.
Shaping the neck
Measure your neck and place two stitch markers with the same distance as the
measurement, positioning them in the middle of the last row of the chest part. You
will now decrease by the neck only. For the reference vest, I decreased at the neck
for the next 5 rows, but feel free to adjust based on your preference.
Sc into the first st by the shoulder, and then sc across until you reach the
second-to-last st. Skip the second-to-last st and sc into the last st of the row
(the st with a st marker in it). Ch 1, turn.
Sc into the second st, sc across, ch 1, and turn.
Sc into the first st by the shoulder, sc across until you reach the second-to-last
st. Skip the second-to-last st and sc into the last st of the row. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat the ** section one more time, or as many times as necessary for your
desired shape. Continue by creating two more rows without any dec. Ch 1 and
fasten off.
Attach the yarn on the shoulder side of the opposite side of the vest, ch 1, and
repeat the steps to create the other side of the neckline.
Front panel
The back panel is made in the same way as the front panel, with the exception that
you add two more rows for the chest section and omit the last two rows of the
neckline (the no-dec rows). Ensure that the number of st in the last row of the two
straps of the front and back panels is the same.
3
Assebly and seaming
Attach the front and back panels together by joining the straps and sides of the vest
using your preferred method; I used the sc st. Once completed, turn the vest right
side out.
Border
Attach your yarn under the armpit and sc around the hole until you come back to
the first sc. Sl st into the first sc. Ch 1, don’t turn.
Fphdc into the first st. Continue with fphdc and bphdc into every other st until
you come back to the first st. Sl st into the first st. Ch 1, don’t turn.
Make another row of fphdc and bphdc in every other st until you reach the first
st. Sl st into the last st, ch 1 and fasten off.*
Note: When making the second row of fphdc and bphdc, make sure that each
fphdc aligns with a fphdc from the previous row, and each bphdc corresponds to
another bphdc.
Repeat ** for the other armhole and the neckline.
Sow in the loose edges.
Congratulations! You are done!
