Q.1 Choose the carrect alternatives. (3)
1) If x = 3, y = k is a solution of the given 3x - 4y + 7 = 0, then the value of k is
a. 16 b. - 16 c. 4 d. - 4

Ans. Option c.

2) If the equation 2x2 - 5x (k 3) = 0 has equal roots then the value of K is vg

9 9 1 1
a. 8
b. - 8
c. 8
d. - 8

Ans. Option c.

3) Sum of first five multiples of 3 is .................. .

a. 45 b. 55 c. 15 d. 75

Ans. Option a.

Q.2 Solve the following question. (Any Two) (4)

1) Find the term t10 of an A.P. 4, 9, 14, ....

Ans. Here, a = t1 = 4, d = t2 - t1 = 9 - 4 = 5, tn = t10.

tn = a + (n - 1) d ... (Formula)

∴ t10 = 4 + (10 - 1) × 5 ... (Substituting the Values)

=4+9×5

= 4 + 45
= 49
t10 is 49.
2) Find the values of the following determinants.
∣ 5 3 ∣
A=∣ ∣
∣ 7 9 ∣

Ans.
∣ 5 3 ∣
A = ∣ ∣ = (5 × 9) - (3 × 7) = 45 - 21 = 24
∣ 7 9 ∣

3) 2x2 - 7x + 6 = 0 check whether x = - 2 are solutions of the equations.

Ans. Let x = - 2 in 2x2 - 7x + 6

2x2 - 7x + 6 = 2(- 2)2 - 7(- 2) + 6

= 2 × 4 + 14 + 6
= 28 ≠0

∴ x = - 2 is not a solution of the equation.

Q.3 Solve the following question. (Any Two) (6)

1) The sum of a two digit number and the number obtained by reversing its digits is 121. Find the number if its
units place digit is greater than the tens place digit by 7.

Ans. Suppose, the units place digit of the two digit number is y and the tens place digit is x.

∴ the number is 10x + y

∴ the number obtained by reversing the digits is 10y + x

∴ from the given conditions, (10x + y) + (10y + x) = 121

∴ 11x + 11y = 121 ∴ x + y = 11 ..... (I)

Also, x = y + 7 ∴ x-y=7 ..... (II)

∴ Adding (I) and (II), 2x = 18 x = 9

∴ from (I) 9 + y = 11 y = 2

∴ the two digit number is 29.

2) In an A.P. sum of three consecutive terms is 27 and their product is 504, find the terms.

Ans. Let the three consecutive terms be a - d, a, a + d

Their sum is 27

∴ a - d + a + a + d = 27

∴ 3a = 27

∴ a=9

The product of all three terms is 504.

∴ (a - d)×a×(a + d) = 504
∴ (a2 - d2) × a = 504 ... [Using (a + b) (a - d) = a2 - d2 ]

∴ (92 - d2)× 9 = 504

81 - d2 =
504

9

∴ 81 - d2 = 56

∴ d2 = 81 - 56

= 25

∴ d = ±5 ... [Taking square root]

When d = 5, a = 9, the required terms are 4, 9, 14

When d = - 5, a = 9, the required terms are 14, 9, 4.
Hence the required terms are 4, 9, 14 or 14, 9, 4.
3) Which of the following equation is quadratic ?
(x + 2)2 = 2x2

Ans. (x + 2)2 = 2x2

[Using (a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab

∴ x2+ 4x + 4 = 2x2 + b2 ]

∴ 2x2- x2 - 4x - 4 = 0

∴ x2- 4x - 4 = 0

Here x is the only variable and maximum index of

variable is 2.

∴ It is a quadratic equation in variable x.

Q.4 Solve the following question. (Any One) (4)

1) The speed of a boat in still water is 11 km/hr. It can go 12 km up-stream and return downstream to the original
point in 2 hours 45 minutes. Find the speed of the stream.

Ans. Speed of boat in still water = 11km/hr.

Let the speed of stream = x km/hr.
speed of boat upstream = (11 - x) km/hr
and speed of boat downstream = (11 + x) km/hr
Distance covered = 12 km
Given total time taken = 2 hours 45 minutes

3 11
=2 = hours.
4 4
Now according to the condition, we have

12 12 11
+ =
11 − x 11 + x 4

12(11 + x + 11 − x_) 11
=
(11 − x) (11 +x ) 4

12 × 22 11

2
=
121 − x 4

1331 - 11x2 = 4 × 12 × 22

1331 - 11x2 = 1056

1331 - 1056 - 11x2 = 0
- 11x2 + 275 = 0
x2 - 25 = 0 (Dividing 11)
(x + 5) ( x - 5) = 0
Either x + 5= 0, then x = - 5, but it is not possible as it is in negative
or x - 5 = 0, then x = 5
Hence speed of stream = 5 km/hr.

2) Two taps A and B can together fill a swimming pool in 15 days. A and B are kept open for 12 days and then B is
closed. It takes another 8 days for the pool to be filled. How many days does each tap require to fill the pool?

Ans. Let taps A and B take x and y days respectively to fill the swimming
pool.

1
In one day tap A fills x
part of the swimming pool

1
In one day tap B fills y
part of the swimming pool

Both taps together fill the swimming pool in 15 days

∴ Both taps together fill part of the swimming pool in 1 day.

Taps A and B are kept open for 12 days.

∴ in 12 days these taps fill x

part of the swimming pool.

Now, tap B is closed and tap A takes another 8 days to fill the swimming

Substituting m for x

, we get,
m+n=

∴ 15m + 15n = 1 ... (3)

and 20m + 12n = 1 ... (4)

Multiplying equation (3) by 4 and equation (4) by 3.
60m + 60n = 4
... (5)
60m + 36n = 3
... (6)

equation (5)]
24n = 1

∴ n=

Substituting n = in equation (4),

30m + 12 × =1 ∴ 20m + =1 ∴ 20m =

∴ m=

Re-substituting the values of m and n, we get,

1 1
m= x
= ∴ x = 40

and n = y
= ∴ y = 24
24

Individually tap A and tap B requires 40 days and 24 days respectively

to fill the swimming pool.
Q.5 Solve the following question. (Any One) (3)
1) Construct any one linear equation in two variables. Obtain another equation coefficients of variables. Find the
value of the variables. by interchanging only

Ans. Consider a linear equation in two variables:

3x + 2y = 5 ... (i)
According to the given condition, another equation is
2x + 3y = 5 ... (ii)
Adding equations (i) and (ii), we get

Unknown node type: mstack

...
[Dividing
∴ x+y=
10
both
5
sides by
5]

∴ x+y=2 ... (iii)

Subtracting equations (ii) from (i), we get

Unknown node type: mstack

∴ x–y=0 ... (iv)

Adding equations (iii) and (iv), we get

Unknown node type: mstack

∴ x=1

Substituting x = 1 in equation (iii), we get

x+y=2

∴ 1+y=2

∴ y=2–1=1

∴ x = 1 and y = 1 are the values of the variables.

2) If the first term of an A.P. is p, second term is q and last term is r, then show that sum of all terms is

Ans. Given: First term (t1) = a = p, Second term (t2) = q, tn = r

Common difference (d) = t2 – t1 = q – p
According to the question,
tn = a + (n – 1) x d
r = p + (n – 1) x (q – p)
(r – p) = (n – 1) x (q – p)
We know

Hence proved.
