Revit MEP 2025 From Zero to Hero Tutorials

Tutorial 01: User Interface


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_01.rvt
3. Type the name of the current view: ________________________
4. In Project Browser, locate Plumbing / Plumbing / Floor Plans; double click the
view named 1 - Plumbing. Using different zooming commands, explore this
view
5. Change the Detail level to Coarse, then Medium
6. What is the scale of this view? __________
7. Change it to 1:200, 1:50, then get it back to 1:100
8. Create a camera for different parts of the Plumbing model
9. Do the same steps in Electrical / Lighting / Ceiling Plans / 1 - Ceiling Elec
10. Choose one of the 3D views, then change the Visual style to Wireframe,
Hidden, Consistent Colors, then get it back to Shaded
11. Go back to Mechanical / HVAC / Floor Plans / 1 – Mech, select one of the
ducts (by clicking it)
12. Check Properties palette, and record some of the information about this duct
13. Using Project Browser, double click on East – Mech Elevation view
14. Using View tab, and Window panel, tile all the opened views
15. Use command Zoom All to Fit and see its effect.
16. You can select between Tab Views, and Tiled Views
17. Click one of tabs, and hold, you can drag the view to another screen if you
want
18. Select one of the views, then click Close Inactive Windows button to close all
the other views.
19. Go to HVAC / 3D, from Properties turn off the Section Box, right-click
ViewCube, and start Perspective (if nothing is displayed, double-click the
mouse wheel). The view initially is wireframe, use the Steering Wheel to
explore the 3D view
20. Use Fly command as well
21. Using File Menu, and Close command, close the current project without saving

Tutorial 02: Drawing & Selecting:
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_02.rvt
3. Click Air Handling Unit at the bottom. Hover over the square with X inside it at
the right of the AHU, Revit will show you a tooltip “Create Duct”; click it to
start creating ducts. Go to the right by 1000mm, and click. Go up with
angle=90, and type 8750, and press [Enter], then press [Esc] twice to end the
command
4. Click the long duct. What is the length of the long duct? _____________
5. Click the temporary dimension to change it to 8650
6. From Systems tab, click Duct command. Move the cursor up until you see
alignment line with the top left Air Terminal, the first click should be at the
center of the main duct, and then go to the left measuring 2500mm, click to
stop drawing, press [Esc] twice to end the command
7. Start Flex Duct command, start from the center of the upper left Air Terminal,
and connect it to the duct you just added
8. Repeat the process for the lower left Air Terminal
9. Click the T at the top, and click the plus sign to its right to make it rectangular
cross. Hover over the right of the rectangular cross, right-click and select Draw
Duct option, draw a duct 1500mm, and press [Esc] twice to end the command.
Start Flex Duct command, start from the center of the upper right Air
Terminal, and connect it to the duct you just did
10. Repeat the process for the lower right Air Terminal
11. Using Window, or Crossing select all elements
12. From context tab, click Filter button, how many duct fitting you have?
____________.
13. Click Check None button, and select Air Terminals (they should be four), click
OK. Now only the four Air Terminal are selected. Click anywhere to deselect
elements
14. Save and close the file

Tutorial 03: Modifying commands:
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_03.rvt
3. Zoom to the top left room, and move the light to the top left of the ceiling grid
4. Copy it three times to make it look like the following:

5. Zoom to the top right room. Rotate the light 45o to fit into the ceiling grid (you
can use Align command, if you want)
6. Then copy it three times
7. Zoom to the top left room, and select the two right lights. Start Mirror – Pick
Axis command, and select the center of the wall at the right of the two lights
8. Align the top one to the ceiling grid, and delete the other light
9. Using Linear Array, array the top light five times to the right using 1200mm
distance between them. Also, using the Linear Array, array the resultant lights
downward two times using 1800mm distance between them
10. This will be the result:

11. Zoom to the room containing the spotlight. Select the spotlight, and start
Radial Array, array it 24 times in 360o using the intersection of the two green
lines as the Center of Rotation
12. From Project Browser go to Mechanical / HVAC / Floor Plans / 1 – Mech
13. Extend the lower small ducts to the main duct
14. Using Trim / Extend to Corner join the magenta horizontal and vertical ducts
15. Using Split Element, split the horizontal magenta duct using more than one
method
16. Save and close the file

Tutorial 04: Linking Models from other Disciplines:
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file named Architectural_Model.rvt, using SAVEAS, save it under the
following name: My_Arhcitectural_Model.rvt. look at the different views and
get acquainted with the model, then close it
3. Start a new project using Systems-Default_Metric.rte
4. Check the different premade views for different disciplines.
5. Check the Properties of some of these views, check the Discipline, and Sub-
Discipline
6. Save it as Tutorial_04_Solved.rvt
7. Go to Insert tab, locate Link panel, click Revit Link button, when the dialog box
will come up select My_Architecture_Model.rvt, using Manual – Base Point,
and click Open, and insert the model between the four elevation bubbles.
8. Pin the architectural model
9. Go to Insert tab, locate Link panel, click Manage Links button, select the linked
file, and make sure you understand each and every option, and button. When
done click OK
10. From Project Browser go to Mechanical / HVAC / Elevations (Building
Elevations) / South – Mech
11. Move the bubble of the Level 1 and Level 2 of the new file out to the right
12. Save and close the file

Tutorial 05: Copy / Monitor, and creating Levels


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_05.rvt
3. You are at Mechanical / HVAC / Elevations (Building Elevations) / South –
Mech
4. Go to Collaborate tab, locate Coordinate panel, click Copy / Monitor drop-
down list and choose Select Link option, and select the linked architecture
model.
5. From the context tab, locate Tools panel, then click Monitor, click Level 1 of
the new file, then click Level 1 of the linked file. Do the same thing with Level
2
6. Click Copy button, from Options bar, and select Level 3 (we don’t need neither
Level 4, nor Level 5) from the linked architecture file. Read the warning
message, and click OK to accept it. From context tab, click Finish to end the
command

7. Now you have three levels in your file, exactly like the three levels from the
linked file. Move Level 3 bubble out. You can see that the Level 3 header is
black and not blue. Also, from Project Browser there are no views
representing Level 3
8. Go to View tab, locate Create panel, click Plan View drop-down list, and select
Floor Plan option, when the dialog box will come up, you will find Level 3
9. Click Edit Type, then click Mechanical Plan button, check that Mechanical Plan
is the Template selected. Make sure that Discipline = Mechanical, and Sub-
Discipline = HVAC. Click OK twice, then select Level 3 and click OK
10. Rename the new floor plan views: 3 – Mech (when the renaming the level
message comes up click No)
11. Now we are done with the HVAC
12. Go to View tab, locate Create panel, click Plan View drop-down list, and select
Floor Plan option, when the dialog box will come up, you will not find any
floor plan. Turn off Do not duplicate existing views
13. Click Edit Type, then click Mechanical Plan button, from the left select
Plumbing Plan, and make sure that Discipline = Plumbing, and Sub-Discipline =
Plumbing. Click OK twice, then select Level 3 click OK
14. Rename the new view to read 3 – Plumbing (when the renaming the level
message comes up click No)
15. Do the same thing for Electrical Power floor plan views
16. For Electrical Lighting, you need to duplicate the Electrical Plan, and call the
new view template, Electrical Plan_Lighting, and set the Sub-Discipline =
Lighting
17. This applies to the Electrical Lighting Ceiling Plan (this view template is
available, just use it)
18. Save and close the file

Tutorial 06: Batch Copy:
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_06.rvt
3. Go to Plumbing / Plumbing / Floor plans / 1- Plumbing
4. Go to Collaborate tab, locate Coordinate panel, click Copy / Monitor drop-
down list and choose Select Link option, and select the linked architecture
model
5. From the context tab, locate Tools panel, click Coordination Settings button,
from Category list select Plumbing Fixtures, from Behavior set Copy behavior =
Allow batch copy, and Mapping behavior = Specify type mapping
6. You will notice that Plumbing Fixtures at the left had a new child called Type
Mapping, select it, and make the following changes:

7. Click Save & Close button


8. Click Batch Copy button, and select Copy Fixtures, the copy will take few
seconds. Click Finish to finish the command
9. Go to the 3D view under Plumbing, you will notice that Water Closet is not
placed in the right plane.
10. Go back to 1 – Plumbing floor plan, using Flip Work Plane, flip the urinals to
the right plane, but, the sinks are not aligned with the wall, but inside the
wall!!

11. If you go to the South – Plumbing elevation view, you will notice, that sinks
are not in the right height from the level (these are the shortcomings of
replacing a family in place of another family)
12. Save and close the file

Tutorial 07: Coordination Review:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open My_Architectural_Model.rvt
3. Go to South elevation view
4. Change the height of Level 3 by adding 100mm
5. Save and close the file
6. Open the file Tutorial_07.rvt
7. Read the warning and click OK
8. Go to South – Mech elevation view, you can see two levels in your project.
The old one, and the new one with different values
9. Go to Collaborate tab, locate Coordinate panel, click Coordination Review
drop-down list and choose Select Link option, and select the linked
architecture model.
10. When the dialog box coming up, recognizing the change. Select Move Level
‘Level 3’, then click OK to end the command
11. When you check South – Mech again, you will notice that both levels have the
same value
12. Save and close the file

Tutorial 08: Views


1. Start Revit 2025.
2. Open the file Tutorial_08.rvt
3. Go to Mechanical / HVAC / Elevations / South - Mech
4. Duplicate the current view, and rename it to be South – Mech w/o Levels
5. Select one of the levels, right-click, and choose Hide in View / Category
6. Go to Mechanical / HVAC / Elevations / North - Mech
7. Start Visibility / Graphics command, you are at Model Categories tab, make
sure at Filter list to show Architecture as well as Mechanical, Electrical, and
Piping. Click Annotation Categories, turn off Levels. Click OK to end the
command
8. Go to Electrical / Lighting / Ceiling Plans / 1 - Ceiling Elec view. Zoom to the
two toilets, and create a rectangle callout, and call it, 1 - Ceiling Elec – Toilet
Lighting

9. Go to Mechanical / HVAC / Floor Plan / 1 - Mech view. Sketch callout around
the Elevator and Staircase, and rename the view to 1- Mech Elevator and
Staircase.
10. If the callout view, was not listed in the same discipline, go to the callout view,
from Properties, locate View Template, change the view template to
Mechanical Plan, make sure that Discipline = Mechanical, and Sub-Discipline =
HVAC, and it will be listed correctly.
11. Make sure that your current view is 1 - Mech
12. Go to View tab, click Close Inactive
13. Duplicate 1 – Mech floor plan, and rename it to be 1 - Mech Reception. Show
the Crop Region. Resize it to show only the Reception
14. Go to Mechanical / HVAC / Floor Plans / 1 - Mech view
15. Add a Building elevation in the right side of the building
16. Click the arrow of the elevation, and understand the depth of the new
elevation. Double click the arrow to see the elevation view
17. Go back to 1 – Mech, change the depth of the elevation to include more
elements, and double click the arrow again. How the view changed?

18. Rename the new elevation to My_East. Change Discipline=Mechanical, and
Sub-Discipline=HVAC
19. Go back to Mechanical / HVAC / Floor Plans / 1 - Mech
20. Create a section cutting the toilets vertically
21. Rename the section to be Toilets
22. Go to the view to see it. Change Discipline to Plumbing, and Sub-Discipline to
Plumbing for the section view
23. You can resize the Crop region to show Level 1, and Level 2 only
24. Save and close the file

Tutorial 9: Creating Spaces:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open Course_Architecture_Model.rvt
3. Go to Level 1 floor plan view. Notice the definition of the rooms, naming, and
numbers.
4. Select one of the rooms (make sure to select the cross, you can use [Tab] key),
using Properties, you can see different types of information. If Volume is not
computed, then go to Analyze tab, locate Spaces & Zones panel, click the
drop-down list of panel title, click Area and Volume Computations button,
make sure Areas and Volumes option is selected. Click OK, check the
Properties again, you will find Volume is calculated

5. Save and close the file
6. Open the file Tutorial_9.rvt
7. You are at Mechanical / HAVC / Floor Plans / 1 - Mech view
8. Right-Click the view, and Duplicate with Detailing, rename the new view 1 -
Spaces. Make sure nothing is selected, click Edit Type, locate View Template
applied to new views (whatever the name appears on the button) select
Architecture Plan, click Duplicate, and call the new View Template
Coordination Plan
9. Change the Discipline to Coordination, and create a new Sub-Discipline =
Coordination. Click OK twice. You can see now that a new node was added to
the views which is called Coordination
10. Select 1 – Spaces, right-click, and select Apply Template Properties, then
select Coordination Plan, click OK to end the command
11. Duplicate with Detailing 2 – Mech, rename it to 2 – Spaces, then Apply the
Coordination Plan template to it
12. Select the RVT Link, from Properties, click Edit Type button, turn on Room
Bounding on
13. Go to 1 - Spaces
14. While nothing is selected, click Edit Type, click Coordination Plan button, turn
off the Include checkbox for all options start with V/G Override. Then click OK
twice
15. Start Visibility / Graphics command, find Spaces, click the plus sign beside it.
Turn on Interior
16. Start Space command, from the Option bar, set the Offset = 2700mm, and
define the top left room to be your first space. Don’t change the name and the
number. Define the one at its right to be your second space, leave the default
name and number.
17. Start Space command, from context tab; click Place Spaces Automatically. It
will report that 24 spaces were created. Click Close (Since some Rooms in this
project were defined using Room Separators, Spaces used the same
separators i.e., Corridors)
18. Click Space Naming button, keep the default options, select it for Level 1, and
click OK. You will notice that all spaces were named and numbered based on
the definition of the rooms
19. Using the same method, do the spaces of Level 2 using 2 – Spaces floor plan
view
20. You will notice that 31 spaces were added. Read the warning carefully. It is
telling you that some of the spaces have duplicate numbers
21. We will sort this out in the next tutorial

22. Select one of the spaces, check the Properties for Electrical Lighting, Electrical
Loads, Dimensions, Mechanical Flow, and Energy Analysis
23. Save and close the file

Tutorial 10: Modify and Control Spaces:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_10.rvt
3. From Project Browser, right-click Schedule / Quantities, select New Schedule /
Quantities, from the Filter List make sure that Mechanical is selected, then
search for Spaces, once you find it, click OK.
4. From Fields, add Number, Name, Level
5. When the schedule comes up, you can see there are the following things
repeated in both Level 1, and Level 2:
a. Chase
b. Chase
c. Elevator
d. Staircase
6. Select all of the above for Level 2, and delete them
7. In Level 2, there is a space not named correctly. If you view the schedule, you
will find space 149 in Level 2, named Space. Select the row, click Highlight in
Model, you will find it to be the Reception in Level 2
8. Using the schedule, rename it to Reception, and since it is in Level 2, and
renumber it to 232
9. Go to Coordination / Coordination / 1 – Spaces
10. Create a section which cuts the two toilets vertically
11. Go to the section view by double clicking the head of the section
12. Using Visibility / Graphics show the interior colors of spaces
13. You can see the space in both chases is not covering the full space. Select the
space, from Properties, set the Limit Offset = 9500mm
14. Do the same to the other chase
15. Move the section to cut the elevator
16. You can see that the space is not covering the full spaces from both sides.
Select the space, set Limit Offset = 11500mm, and Base Offset = -1000mm
17. Go to 1 – Spaces, and move the section to cut the staircase
18. Go to the section view
19. Select the space, set Limit Offset = 11500mm
20. You are still in Section 1 view
21. We want to create a Plenum level for Level 1. Go to Architecture tab, locate
Datum panel, and click Level command. From Properties change the type to

Plenum. Using Options bar, click Plan View Types button, turn off all types
except Floor Plan, and from Draw panel, click Pick Lines tool, pick the upper
edge of the ceiling. Rename the level to 1 - Plenum, and answer Yes to the
question
22. Go to 1 – Plenum view
23. Make sure nothing is selected, from Properties, you will find that View Range
is disabled
24. Under View Template, click Coordination Plan, search for View Range and
uncheck the tick of View Range, to allow the user to make some changes, click
OK to end the command
25. Start View Range command, and set Cut Plane = 150mm
26. Start Space command, and click at the middle of the building. Rename the
new Space P1, and leave the number as is.
27. Go back to Section 1 view, click the newly created space, and adjust the Limit
Offset = 1048mm
28. Do the same procedure for P2
29. Save and close the file

Tutorial 11: Energy Analysis – Part 1


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_11.rvt
3. Go to Analyze tab, locate Energy Optimization panel, start Location command,
make sure you are at Location tab, under Project Address type Sacramento,
CA. Select the first Weather Station. Turn on Use Daylight Savings time, click
OK to end the command
4. Click Energy Settings, do the following:
a. Set Mode = Use Rooms or Spaces
b. Ground Plane = Level 1
c. Click OK to end the command
5. Go to 1 – Spaces, and move the section to cut the toilets and the chases
6. Go to Section 1 view
7. Select the two plenums, using Properties, under Energy Analysis, turn on
Plenum (Occupiable will be turned off automatically). Check that Condition
Type to make sure it is Unconditioned
8. Select the two chases, using the Properties, set the following:
a. Turn off the Occupiable
b. Condition Type = Unconditioned
9. Go to 1 – Spaces floor plan view

10. Select the Elevator, Stairs, Electrical_Room, Gents Room and Ladies Room
spaces, and set the Condition Type = Unconditioned
11. Select the twelve office spaces, and the Manager_Office, from Properties,
under Energy Analysis, click the three dots button of Space Type. At Filter,
type Office, from the list select Office – Enclosed. From the right change the
Lighting Schedule and Power Schedule to be Common Office Occupancy.
Change the following values:
a. Area per person = 9 m2
b. Sensible Heat Gain per person = 75 W
c. Latent Heat Gain per person = 60 W
d. Click OK to end the command
12. Select the Meeting Room, from Properties, under Energy Analysis, click the
three dots button of Space Type. At Filter, type Meeting, from the list select
Conference Meeting / Multipurpose, from the right click three dots button of
Occupancy Schedule. When the new dialog box comes up, click Duplicate the
Year, and rename the new, as Meeting, and do the following:
a. Set 7:00 AM, and 8:00 AM to be 0%
b. Set 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 8:00 PM, and 9:00 PM to be 0%
c. Leave the rest as is
13. Apply the same to Lighting Schedule, and Power Schedule
14. Select the three corridors and set the Space Type to Corridor / Transition,
don’t change anything
15. Select the Reception, set the Space Type to be Reception/Waiting –
Transportation, Duplicate it to Reception, set Occupancy Schedule to be On - 8
AM to 6 PM. Set the Lighting Schedule and the Power Schedule to the same
16. Select the Cafeteria space, from Properties, under Energy Analysis, click the
three dots button of Space Type. At Filter, type Dining, from the list select
Dining Area. Click OK to end the command
17. If you have time do the same thing for Level 2
18. Save and close the file

Tutorial 12: Energy Analysis – Part 2


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_12.rvt
3. Go to Analyze tab, locate Energy Optimization panel, and click Create Energy
Model, a message will come up click Create the Energy Analytical Model
button.

4. You will notice that there are two new 3D views were generated
automatically; one called “System-Zones” and the second called “Analytical
Spaces”
5. From Project Browser go to Schedule / Quantities, you will find a schedule
called Analytical Spaces, double-click it. You will see all the spaces you created
6. Another schedule you will find is the Analytical Surfaces which includes
Openings and Surfaces
7. Go to Analytical Spaces 3D view, duplicate it, and call the new view Analytical
Surfaces
8. Start Visibility / Graphics command, click Analytical Model Categories tab, and
turn off the Analytical Spaces, and turn on the Analytical Surfaces.
9. Start Visibility / Graphics command, click Analytical Model Categories tab, and
turn on all the categories under Analytical Surfaces
10. Check the model for any gaps or missing elements
11. Save and close the file

Tutorial 13: Energy Analysis – Part 3


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_13.rvt
3. Open 1 – Mech floor plan view, and close other views
4. Go to View tab, locate Windows panel, click the drop-down list of User
Interface, and turn on System Browser, from the drop-down, select Analytical
systems
5. From the buttons at the right, click Add Water Loop:
a. Name = Chilled Water
b. Loop Type = Chilled Water
c. Chiller Type = Air Cooled
6. Add another Water Loop:
a. Name = Hot Water
b. Loop Type = Hot Water

7. Click Add Air System, call it AHU 1, and set it like the following:

8. Click Add Zone Equipment, call it VAV 1-1, and set it like the following:

9. Add two more Zone Equipment VAV 1-2, and VAV 1-3 with the same settings
10. Add two more Zone Equipment VAV 1-4, VAV 1-5 but change the Behavior to
One per Space
11. You added Water Loops, Air System, and Zone Equipment, we need to
connect that to our Analytical Model. We will cut Level 1 to five zones, starting
from bottom up, calling it Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, etc.
12. Go to Analyze tab, locate Energy Optimization panel, click System Zone, set
the following:

13. Using 1 – Mech, create a line covering bottom four offices. Press [Esc], and
click (✓) to end the command

14. Zone 2, with VAV 1-2, will be for the eight offices above them
15. Zone 3, with VAV 1-3, for all corridors, Reception, and the cafeteria
16. Zone 4, and VAV 1-4 will be for Manager_Room
17. Zone 5, with VAV 1-5 will be for Meeting
18. Repeat steps from (7) to (17) to do the same thing for Level 2
19. Delete Energy Model
20. Create a New Energy Model
21. Look at the Analytical Spaces and how they are listed in the System Browser
22. Also, look at the new node which is named Unconditioned
23. Start Energy Settings command, under Advanced, click the Edit button for
Other Options, under Material Thermal Properties, there are three choices:
a. Conceptual Types; this is the default value
b. Schematic Types, click to change it and override the Conceptual types
c. If you turn on the Detailed Elements checkbox, it will override both
Conceptual and Schematic
24. Click OK twice to end the command
25. Go to Analyze tab, locate Energy Optimization panel, click Systems Analysis
command, you will see the following dialog box:

26. Select Annual Building Energy Simulation, and view it


27. Start the command again, select HVAC Systems Load and Sizing
a. Type in the desired Report name
b. If you would like you can change Energy Settings
28. Click Run Analysis button, it will take some time to produce the report
29. Using the Project Browser, Locate Reports/ Analysis Reports, locate the report
30. Look at the report, and the different tabs
31. Go to the Analytical Spaces 3D view

32. Select one of the Analytical spaces, using the Properties, look at the different
loads that Revit calculated.
33. Go to 3D view, and export your model to gbXML file using Building Elements,
specify the name of the XML file, and Save
34. Save and close the file

Tutorial 14: Adding Mechanical Equipment and Air Terminals


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_14.rvt
3. From Project Browser, locate Schedules / Quantities, double click Analytical
Spaces
4. From Properties, click Fields Edit, make the order to be like the following:

Tutorial 15: Adding Ducts – Introduction
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_15.rvt
3. Start the Duct command
4. From Properties, for Rectangular Duct there are four types of ducts, they are:
a. Radius Elbows / Tees
b. Radius Elbows / Taps
c. Mitered Elbows / Tees
d. Mitered Elbows / Tees
5. Try all of the above types to get acquainted with the Duct types
6. Check the Middle Elevation, Top Elevation, and Bottom Elevation
7. You can change the justification for a new duct by clicking Duct command,
then from Properties, check the Horizontal Justification (Left, Center, Right),
and Vertical Justification (Top, Middle, Bottom). Or, start the Duct command,
before you start drawing, from the context tab, click Justification button, you
will see the following dialog box:

8. Here you can control the Horizontal Offset, when done click OK, and start

Tutorial 16: Adding Ducts


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_16.rvt
3. Go to Mechanical / HVAC / Ceiling Plans / 1 – Mech
4. Start Mechanical Settings command, select Angles under Duct Settings, click
Use specific angles option, and uncheck 11.25, 22.5, 30, click OK
5. Select the VAV box, from the right of VAV box click the small square with X
inside it, from Options bar, set the Width and Height = 300mm. From
Properties select Rectangular Duct – Mitered Elbows / Tees. The Middle
Height is dictated by the VAV box, but you can change it (if you want). Draw
2000mm horizontal duct, then down to match the center of the one of the
supply air terminal, then go to the left for the leftmost air terminal to connect
to it
6. Click the elbow, and convert it to tee, from the new tee, draw a duct to
connect to the air terminal at the right most
7. Hover over the VAV box, and press [Tab] key three times, once everything is
highlighted click the mouse to select, from context tab, click Selection Box
command. Now you will see the VAV box along with Air Terminals and the
ducts in 3D view
8. Select one of the air terminals, from context tab, click Connect Into, then
select the duct. Repeat the same procedure to the other air terminals (one-by-
one)
9. As a practice, do the upper left office, and upper right meeting room (you may
need to rotate the VAV box, and move the return diffuser to make a good
setup)
10. Save and close the file

Tutorial 17: Duct Adjustments
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_17.rvt
3. Go to Mechanical / HVAC / Ceiling Plan / 1 – Mech
4. Using the ducts of the lower offices, select all ducts (you can use Filter to
select only the ducts, and the ducts fittings)
5. From Options bar, change the size to be 350 x 350mm
6. While it is selected, using context tab, locate Edit panel, click Change Type
button. From Type selector, select Rectangular Duct Mitered Elbows / Taps
7. For the upper right meeting room, select the run of the Supply ducts
8. Using context tab, locate Analysis panel, click Duct / Pipe Sizing button. Use
Friction as Sizing method, set the value to 0.4 Pa/m and click OK
9. What are the sizes of the ducts used by Revit? __________________________
10. For the upper left office, select the run of the Supply ducts
11. Using Filter, turn off Air Terminal, and click OK

the three mechanical systems that Revit created without our knowledge.

5. Zoom to the offices 103, 104, 105, and 106
6. Move the VAV box up a little bit. Select it, from context tab, click Duct button.
When the dialog box comes up, leave the name as the default, and turn on the
checkbox “Open in the System Editor”
7. Select Connector 3 (the rectangle one), click OK
8. Add the four supply air terminal for the four rooms. Click Finish Editing System
button
9. Hover over one of the supply air terminals you just worked with. Press [Tab]
to highlight the system, then click to select
10. From context tab, click Generate Layout button

Tutorial 19: Test Systems:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_19.rvt
3. You are at Mechanical / HVAC / Ceiling Plan / 1 – Ceiling Mech
4. Select all supply run, and make sure there are no warnings for the selected
run
5. Start Show Disconnects command, and select Duct, click OK
6. You will see lots of warnings, check the two disconnects on the meeting room,
and the manager room at the right of each supply run, click to know the type
of disconnect, you will find it to be open duct. Close the warning
7. Right-click the connector, and select Cap Open End. You will see that the
warning will disappear. Repeat the other warning
8. Start Show Disconnects command, and deselect the Duct option and click OK
9. Turn on Check Duct System button
10. You will see a problem. Click the warnings to read it
11. Select the Supply run, and click Selection Box to see it in 3D
12. You can see two of the air terminals are not connected with the ducting
system
13. Connect the two air terminals
14. Go back to see if the problem was solved or not

Tutorial 20: Duct Placeholders:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_20.rvt
3. We can use Duct Placeholders (1-line diagram) when the exact design of the
layout is not known yet. It is easy to edit since there are no fittings in it.
4. Go to Systems tab, locate HVAC panel, click Duct Placeholder, do the
following:
a. Type: Rectangular Duct: Mitered Elbows / Tees
b. Set System = Supply
c. Size 150 x 150
d. Leave the Middle Elevation as the default value
5. Draw a horizontal line, and vertical line, then horizontal line again
6. Select the run, click to select it, you will see small circles at the joints, which
you can move to anywhere you want
7. Select the run again, then click to select it
8. From context tab, click Convert Placeholder
9. Select one of the ducts, you will discover it is 150 x 150, and Middle Elevation
is the same as the default value
10. Select the run of the ducts
11. Try to move the middle points of the run, what happened? _______________
12. Delete the ducts
13. Click VAV Box, right-click the top connector, select Draw Duct Placeholder
14. Draw a Duct Placeholders to cover all air terminals

Tutorial 21: Adding Rooftop AC Unit
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_21.rvt
3. You are at 1 - Ceiling Mech view
4. Start Duct command, from Properties, select Round Duct – Tees, from Options
bar, set the Diameter = 200mm, Middle Elevation = 3200mm.
5. From bottom of the left corridor, start drawing a vertical duct, then continue
as the image below:

6. Connect the different VAV boxes to this run using Connector 1: Supply Air:
Round:125:Flow Direction In, make sure of the following:
a. You may need to move some VAV Box in order to give room for the
connection to take place
b. Convert any Tee to Elbow if needed specially at the end of the duct run
7. Select the run that you draw, right-click, choose Override Graphics in View /
By Element. Click Projection Lines, change the color to dark orange color.
Make sure that the System Type = Supply Air for this duct run
8. Go to 3 – Mech floorplan
9. Load the following Mechanical Equipment: Mechanical\MEP\Air-Side
Components\Air Conditioners\M_Rooftop AC Unit - 53-88 kW - Bottom
Return Connection, and add it up on the right side of the building away from

Tutorial 22: Adding Plumbing Fixtures and Equipment:
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_22.rvt
3. Go to Plumbing / Plumbing / Floor Plans / 1 – Plumbing

5. Zoom to the Gents Room at the bottom of the floor plan
6. Using Reference Plane command, add the following planes at the edge of face

Tutorial 23: Add Plumbing Pipes:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_23.rvt
3. Go to Plumbing / Plumbing / Floor Plans / 1 – Plumbing
4. Start Mechanical Settings command
5. Under Pipe Settings, click Angles, from the right, select Use Specific Angles.
Turn off 11.25, 22.50, and 30
6. Go through the other settings related to pipes, then click OK
7. Start Pipe command. The default pipe type is Standard. Click Edit Type, click
Duplicate button, and name the new pipe Copper. Click Edit beside Routing
Preferences. Don’t change any existing settings, and click OK twice
8. Make Detail Level = Fine

9. Zoom to the top left of the Cafeteria, you will find the main water supply pipe.
Click it, click Create Pipe, make sure of the following: Pipe Type = Copper, from
Options bar, Diameter = 25mm, and Middle Elevation =1200mm
10. Draw a pipe to the right 100mm. From Options bar set Middle Elevation =
2900mm, then press [Enter], then go down 12800mm. All fittings will be
included automatically
11. Select the vertical section and extend the depth to include the water source,

Connect Into, select Cold Water Connector, then click the main line

room, and go all the way passing the last water closet at the right
15. Do the same procedure for the other branches bearing in mind, use 15mm for
the sinks, and 25mm for the water closets
16. Zoom to the water heater, click it, start a pipe from the hot water connector,
from Options bar set the Middle Elevation = 2800mm, Diameter = 15mm draw
a pipe down until you reach the north wall of Gents room, go beyond it by
short distance, and finish the command
17. Using the same settings, draw at the south wall of the Ladies room and the
north wall of the Gents room a hot water pipe
18. Zoom to the upper chase, and create three reference planes; two at the face
of each wall, and one at the middle
19. Create a dimension between the three, and click EQ to make sure that
reference plane at the middle will be exactly at the middle. Call the reference
plane CHASE1
20. Create a section at the middle of chase, and make it look downwards. Section
depth should include the water closets
21. Go to the new section, extend the range of the section to see the whole
building. Set the Detail Level = Fine
22. Go to Systems tab, locate Work Plane panel, click Set button. When the dialog
box comes up, click Name, and select CHASE 1
23. Start Pipe command, select PVC-DWV type. From Options bar, select Diameter
= 100mm. Starting beside the left wall, and beneath Level 1, start drawing up
to the Parapet level

Pipe from Show Disconnects
37. Delete all vertical pipes and fittings for both cold water and hot water pipes,
and connect the cold water pipes
38. Click the water heater, and using Connect Into, connect the water heater to
the cold water and hot water pipes
39. Check again Show Disconnects / Pipe, the problem will be solved
40. Save and close the file

Tutorial 24: Modify Plumbing Pipes – Part (1):
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_24.rvt
3. Go to Plumbing / Plumbing / Floor Plan / 1 – Plumbing
4. Zoom into the four sinks in the Ladies Room. Change Detail Level = Fine
5. Shorten the cold water pipe to match with the middle of the right sink
6. Select the right sink. From context tab, click Connect Into button, select
Domestic Cold Water, then select the blue pipe
7. Select the right sink again. From context tab, click Connect Into button, select
Domestic Hot Water, then select the red pipe
8. Do the same thing with the second, and third sinks
9. Click the left sink, click the icon of the cold water connector, and go to the
cold water pipe, when you reach the center of the pipe click to specify the end
of the pipe. Do the same procedure for the hot water as well
10. Create a section just like the following:

11. Rename the new section “Ladies Room Sinks”, and set the Sub-Discipline to be
Plumbing
12. Go to 3D Plumbing View
13. Duplicate it. Call the Duplicate 3D Plumbing - Ladies Room Sinks
14. Using the ViewCube, right-click select Orient to View / Sections / Ladies Room

move it down several times until the left elevation reads -217.5mm. Retry
again connect the four water closet to the sanitary pipe
28. Go back 1 – Plumbing floor plan view
29. In the Gents Room, create a new section, just like the following:

30. Rename the new section “Gents Room Sinks”, and set the Sub-Discipline to be
Plumbing. Go to the new section
31. Click the sink, from the icon of the sanitary connection, create a 150mm pipe
long, then go to the left penetrating the wall to the middle, you will discover
that Revit create a normal elbow
32. Go to Insert tab, locate Load from Library panel, click Load Autodesk Family
button, make sure you are searching the United States – Metric, go to Pipe /
Fittings / PVC / Sch 40 / Socket-Type / DWV and load M_Trap P - PVC - Sch 40 -
DWV.rfa
33. Select the elbow, you will find that the P-Trap is not listed. The reason is P-
Trap is not defined as an elbow
34. Start Pipe Fitting command, and insert the P-Trap anywhere in the model
35. Double-Click it to go to the Family Editor. From Properties, under Mechanical
for Part Type select Elbow. Save As the new family and call it My_P-Trap.rfa

go to the right, and connect it to the pipe coming from the urinals
39. Go to Insert tab, click Load Autodesk Family, from left pane, select Pipe,
search for Ball Valve, there will be only one family, load it into the project
40. Go to 1 – Plumbing floor plan view, use the existing section cutting the whole
left wing

Tutorial 26: Create Automatic Piping Layouts:
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_26.rvt
3. Go to 2 – Plumbing floor plan view
4. Zoom to the Gents Room and Ladies Room
5. Select one of the sinks. From context tab, click Piping button. When the dialog
box comes up select Domestic Hot Water. Name the system DHW-2. Turn on
Open in System Editor checkbox, and click OK
6. Select the other seven sinks
7. Click Select Equipment button, and select the water heater
8. Click (✓) to finish the creating a piping system command
9. Hover over one of the sinks, and press [Tab] to highlight the system (dashed
box), then click to select
10. From the context tab, click Generate Layout button
11. From Options bar, click Settings button. Change both Main and Branch Pipe
Types: Copper, and Offset = 2800mm.
12. Go through the different solution. Pick solution number 6. Click Edit Layout,
and move the hot water pipes to the left of the cold water pipe
13. Click Solutions, now Custom is selected with only one solution type
14. Click (✓) to finish the creating of the automatic layout
15. Hover over one of the hot water pipe, press [Tab] until you select all the pipe
run, from the context tab, click Selection Box button to view the solution in
3D, to make sure that everything is in order
16. Go back to 2 – Plumbing floor plan view
17. Select the whole run for the hot water pipes, change the pipe diameter to
15mm
18. Start System Browser command, select Systems
19. Select Piping, you will discover there are ten systems
20. Save and close the file

Tutorial 27: Test the System:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_27.rvt
3. You are at Plumbing / Plumbing / Floor Plans / 1 – Plumbing
4. Start Show Disconnects command, and select Pipe, click OK

5. Some of the warnings are negligible (the end of the sanitary riser in both
chases), and other you should take care of. For the cold water going through
the south chase, delete the small pipe, and change the tee to elbow
6. For the hot water pipe in the Gents Room, right-click the end connectors, and
select Cap Open End. Do the same thing for the cold water in Ladies Room
7. Start Show Disconnects command, and deselect the Pipe option and click OK
8. Select the one of the sinks in the Ladies room. From context tab, click System
Inspector button. Select Domestic Hot Water. Click Inspect button. What is the
Flow value in the different pipes?
9. Finish Inspect command
10. Using the Project Browser, Duplicate with Detailing 1 – Plumbing and name
the new view, 1 – Plumbing Flow
11. From Properties, locate System Color Scheme, and click Edit
12. Locate Pipes, and click None button
13. From the left click Pipe Color Fill - Size, rename it Pipe Color Fill – Flow
14. From the top, under Color, pick Flow, when the message comes up. Any flow
above 1, turn it off.
15. Click OK twice to end the command
16. Turn on Thin Lines (if it was turned off)
17. Start Pipe Legend command, and insert the legend to the left of the plan
18. Save and close the file

Tutorial 28: Fire Protection – Prepare your project


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_28.rvt
3. You are at 1 – Mech, duplicate both 1 – Mech, and 2 – Mech floor plan views,
and call them 1 – Sprinklers, and 2 – Sprinklers
4. Make sure nothing is selected, from Properties click Edit Type button, click the
button (it will show the name of the latest view template created)
5. Select Mechanical Plan, click Duplicate button, and call the new view template
Fire Fighting Plan. From the right, scroll to the end, and create a Sub-Discipline
called Sprinkler, click OK twice to end the command
6. In Project Browser, click 1 – Sprinklers, in Properties, change the Discipline to
Mechanical, and Sub-Discipline to be Sprinkler
7. Do the same thing to 2 – Sprinklers
8. Using the same method, duplicate 1 – Ceiling Mech, and 2 – Ceiling Mech, and
rename them 1 – Ceiling Sprinklers, and 2 – Ceiling Sprinklers
9. Duplicate the view template Mechanical Ceiling, to be Fire Fighting Ceiling,
and set the Sub-Discipline = Sprinkler

10. From Properties and for the new two ceiling plans, set the Sub-Discipline =
Sprinkler
11. We want to do the same thing for the four elevation views, and for the 3D
view
12. From Project Browser, go to Families, go to Piping Systems, click Piping
System, and then double-click Fire Protection Wet
13. When the dialog box comes up, click Edit of Graphic Overrides, set the color to
Red, then click OK twice
14. Save and close the file

Tutorial 29: Adding Sprinklers, Pump, and Pipes:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_29.rvt
3. You are at 1 – Ceiling Sprinklers
4. Go to Systems tab, locate Plumbing & Piping panel, click Sprinkler button
5. From the type selector, select M_Sprinkler – Pendent – Hosted – 20mm
Pendent, from context tab, click Place on Face
6. Add this sprinkler at the center of each office of the eight offices at the center
of the building in Level 1
7. Select one of the sprinklers, right-click, pick Select All Instances / Visible in
View, the eight sprinklers will be selected
8. In Modify tab, click Copy to Clipboard, then Paste / Aligned to Selected Levels,
then select Level 2
9. Go to Insert tab, click Load Autodesk Family button, make sure you are looking
at United States – Metric, from the left click Mechanical/MEP/Water-Side
Components/Pumps, select M_Pump – Base Mounted
10. Go to 1 – Sprinklers floor plan view
11. Go to Systems tab, click Mechanical Equipment, and insert the pump in the
room at the lower right of Level 1 (if needed rotate the pump using [Space])
12. Go to Insert tab, click Autodesk Family button, from left click
Pipe/Fittings/Carbon Steel, then load one Cross, one Elbow, one Reducer, one
Tee, and one Wye
13. Start Pipe command
14. Select the Standard type, click Edit Type, Duplicate, call the new pipe Fire
15. Click Edit button of Routing Preferences, do the following:
a. Under Pipe Segment = Steel, Carbon - Schedule 40
b. Elbow = M_Elbow - Flanged - CS - Class 150: Standard
c. Junction = M_Tee - Flanged - CS - Class 150: Standard
d. Cross = M_Cross - Flanged - CS - Class 150: Standard

e. Transition = M_Reducer - Flanged - CS - Class 150: Standard
16. Once done, click OK to end the command
17. Still in Pipe command, from Properties, while pipe type is Fire, select the
System Type to be Fire Protection Wet, once you are done, press [Esc] to end
the command
18. Go to 1 – Ceiling Sprinklers ceiling plan view
19. Start the Pipe command, make sure your pipe is Fire, set Diameter to be
50mm, and Middle Elevation = 2800mm, draw a horizontal pipe covering the
eight sprinklers
20. Select the first sprinkler at the top right, click Connect Into, and select the
horizontal pipe
21. Click the tee, and make it cross, then connect it to the sprinkler using 20mm
diameter pipe
22. Repeat this process to connect all the sprinklers to the main pipe
23. Go to 1 – Sprinklers floor plan view
24. Click the main pipe and increase the length to the right to match the pump
25. Create a section to see the pump and the pipe. Create a pipe from the out
connector, go up to match the pipe, then horizontally to connect to it
26. Hover over one of the pipes, press [Tab] several times to select the run with
the pump, click Selection Box command to view the system in 3D
27. Save and close the file

Tutorial 30: Automatic Piping Fire System:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_30.rvt
3. You are at 2 – Ceiling Sprinklers
4. Select one of the sprinklers, from context tab, click Piping, call the new system
FPW-2, turn on Open in System Editor
5. Select the rest of the sprinklers in Level 2, click (✓) to finish the system
6. Hover over the one of the sprinklers, press [Tab] until you see the dashed line
around all the sprinklers, click to select
7. From context tab, click Generate Layout
8. There are two suggested solutions, see both of them
9. Click Settings, and set the Offset for both Main and Branch to be 2800mm
10. Select the first solution
11. Click Finish Layout
12. Select the horizontal pipes, change their diameter to be 50mm
13. Go to 1 – Ceiling Sprinklers
14. Select the pipe at the right, click Copy to Clipboard, and Paste it to Level 2

15. Go back to 2 – Ceiling Sprinklers
16. Zoom to the connection between the copied pipe and the cross. If they are
not aligned, align them. Connect it to the cross
17. Go back to 1 – Ceiling Sprinklers, use the section you created in Tutorial 29,
make the crop region bigger to see Level 2
18. Change the elbow to be Tee, create a vertical pipe to reach to Level 2
19. Using Trim / Extend to Corner, and use the vertical pipe, and pipe in Level 2
20. That should connect all pipes together
21. Hover over one of the pipes, press [Tab] until you highlight all pipes, click to
select. Click Selection Box command, to see all the pipes, sprinklers, and the
bump.
22. Save and close the file

Tutorial 31: Adding Electrical Fixtures and Equipment:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_31.rvt
3. You are at Electrical / Power / Floor Plans / 1 – Power
4. Go to Systems tab, locate Electrical panel, click Electrical Settings
5. From the left click Voltage Definitions, view the available voltages the value,
minimum, and maximum. You can add any voltage definitions you want
6. From the left click Distribution Systems, view the available distribution
systems, add and delete as you wish
7. Click OK to end the command
8. Zoom to the Electrical Room at the right of the building
9. Start Electrical Equipment command, from Type selector, select M_Lighting
and Appliance Panelboard – 480 V MLO 400 A. From the context tab locate
Placement panel, make sure to select Place on Vertical Face. Press [Spacebar]
once to flip the panelboard, and insert it on the south wall to the right
10. While it is selected, using the Properties, do the following:
a. Note that Elevation = 1200mm (default value)
b. Under General set the name of the panel to be MP-1
c. Maximum Number of Single Pole Breakers = 42
d. Make sure that Distribution System = 480/277 Wye
11. To the left insert two M_Lighting and Appliance Panelboard – 480 V MLO 125
A (you can copy it, and from Type selector change it to the new type). Name
them LP-1, and HP-1
12. Insert M_Dry Type Transformer – 480 -208Y120 -NEMA Type 2 – 15kVA, and
insert it to the left of HP-1, name it TR-1, set the Secondary Distribution
System = 120/208

13. Insert another M_Lighting and Appliance Panelboard – 208 V MLO 100 A, and
name it PP-1. Make sure Distribution System is 120/208 Wye. Set Maximum
Number of Single Pole Breakers = 42
14. Zoom to the left Manager Office, go to Systems tab, Electrical Panel, click
Device button, and select Electrical Fixtures. The default family is M_Duplex
Receptacle Standard. Insert ten receptacles like the following:

15. Click one of the receptacles, you will find that Elevation = 460mm (default
elevation). Also, Panel, and Circuit Number parameters are read-only and
empty. Click Edit Type, you will discover that Load = 180 VA
16. Do the same thing for Meeting Room at the right
17. In the two toilets and the cafeteria insert two for each M_Duplex Receptacle -
GFCI
18. Go to Systems tab, Electrical Panel, click Device button, and select Lighting.
From Type selector select M_Lighting Switch Single Pole. Insert two of them
beside the door of Manager Office, and Meeting Room
19. Go to Electrical / Lighting / Ceiling Plans / 1 – Ceiling Elec
20. Go to Insert tab, click Load Autodesk Family button, make sure you are dealing
with United States – Metric
21. Go to Lighting / MEP / Internal and select M_Troffer Light - Parabolic
Rectangular.rfa, and click Load M_Troffer Light - Parabolic Square.rfa
22. Go to Systems tab, start Lighting Fixtures command
23. In the left Manager Office insert four from M_Troffer Light - Parabolic
Rectangular - 0600x1200mm (2 Lamp) - 277V. Use Place on Face button at the
context tab
24. Use Align command to make sure that lights fit inside the ceiling

Tutorial 32: Create Electrical Circuits


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_32.rvt
3. You are at Electrical / Power / Floor Plans / 1 – Power
4. Zoom to the Electrical Room, where you will find four panels and one
transformer
5. Click PP-1, from context tab, click Power, select from the drop-down of the
Panel, TR-1, press [Esc] twice
6. Select TR-1, from context tab, click Power, select from the drop-down of the
Panel, MP-1, press [Esc] twice
7. Link HP-1, and LP-1 to MP-1
8. Hover over MP-1, press [Tab] several times, what happens? _______________
9. Hover over TR-1, press [Tab] several times, what happens? _______________
10. Zoom to the left Manager’s office
11. Select one of the receptacles, from the context tab, click Power, select the
panel called PP-1. Click Edit Circuit, and add the other nine receptacles in the
same room, then click Finish Editing Circuit button
12. Hover over one of the receptacles, and press [Tab] key, you will see the circuit
created, click Arc Wire, you will see the following shape:

13. Using System Browser, using System, Electrical, see what it listed below PP-1

15. Zoom to the Electrical Room again
16. Select PP-1, and create a Panel Schedule for it using Default Template, and
check its contents

31. Connect the lights of each corridor together and link them to LP-1
32. Take a look at the Panel Schedule of both LP-1, and MP-1
33. Start Visibility / Graphics command
34. Show Mechanical Equipment, click OK to end the command
35. Select one of the VAV Boxes and connect it to HP-1, click Edit Circuit, and add
the other nine VAV Boxes
36. Go to 1 – Power floor plan view
37. Zoom to the Manager Room
38. Select one of the two lighting switches, from Properties, input Switch ID = M1,
and the other switch to be M2
39. Connect M1, with the two left lights, and M2, with the two right lights
40. Hover over one of the two switches, and press [Tab], so you can view the
switch system
41. Go to Meeting Room, and name the two switches ME-1, and ME-2, then
connect the lights with the switches as we did in the Manager’s Room
42. Continue creating switch systems
43. Save and close the file

Tutorial 33: Create Electrical Circuits – Fire Alarm System


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_33.rvt
3. You are at Electrical / Power / Floor Plans / 1 – Power
4. Go to View tab, locate Create panel, click Plan Views drop-down, and select
Floor Plan. Click Edit Type button, click the name of the Plan button (the name
it will appear is the last name used). Click Electrical, and make Duplicate and

call it Fire Alarm Plan, from the right, scroll down, and change the Sub-
Discipline to be Fire Alarm. Click OK twice, then turn off the checkbox Do not
duplicate existing views, select Level 1, and Level 2, and click OK
5. A new node under Electrical appears named Fire Alarm
6. Go to Level 1 under Fire Alarm, select everything, click Filter, click Check None,
then select Spaces, and System – Zones, click OK, then right-click and select
Hide in View / Elements
7. Do the same thing for Level 2
8. Go to View tab, locate Create panel, click Plan Views drop-down, and select
Reflected Ceiling Plan. Click Edit Type button, click the name of the Plan
button (the name it will appear is the last name used). Click Electrical Ceiling,
and make Duplicate and call it Fire Alarm Ceiling, from the right, scroll down,
and change the Sub-Discipline to be Fire Alarm. Click OK twice, then turn off
the checkbox Do not duplicate existing views, select Level 1, and Level 2, and
click OK
9. Go to Level 1 under Fire Alarm Ceiling Plan, select everything, click Filter, click
Check None, then select Spaces, and System – Zones, click OK, then right-click
and select Hide in View / Elements
10. Do the same thing for Level 2
11. Go to Insert tab, click Load Autodesk Family button, make sure you are
searching in United States – Metric, from the left select
Electrical/MEP/Information and Communication/Fire Alarm, search for the
word “detector” then load Heat Detector, and Smoke Detector

2. Open the file Tutorial_34.rvt
3. Start Electrical Settings command. From left pane, select Angles, select
Specific Angles, and turn off both 11.25, and 22.50 angles. Click OK
4. You are at Electrical / Power / Floor Plans / 1 – Power
5. Using Load Autodesk Family, at the Search type circuit breaker and load
Circuit Breaker Switchboard
6. Zoom to the Electrical Room
7. Go to Systems tab, locate Electrical panel, click Electrical Equipment
610mmx660mm and insert to the right of MP-1 (use spacebar to rotate it),
and call it CBSB
8. Click Electrical Equipment again, and insert outside the building M_Dry Type
Transformer – 480-208Y120 – NEMA Type 2 – 300 kVA, and Call it Main
9. Rotate the Transformer so the front face is pointing to the north (you should
see a connector at the front). Set the Secondary Distribution System to be
480/277 Wye
10. Connect MP-1 to CBSB
11. Connect CBSB to Main
12. Create a section on the Electrical Room just like the following:

14. Make sure that the outside transformer is 2000mm away from the edge of the
wall

vertical dimension of CBSB is 603mm, we want to set the location of the
conduit to be 73mm from the upper edge, type 530mm instead of 304.7mm
then click Finish Connection button
18. Draw a 1500mm down then go to the left and draw a short horizontal line,
press [Esc] to end the command
19. Start Conduit command again, and this time start from the Transformer, since
the vertical dimension of the transformer is 813mm, we want to set the
location of the conduit to be 73mm from the upper edge, type 740mm instead
of vertical value then click Finish Connection button and draw a short conduit
downwards
20. Using Trim / Extend to Corner, click the horizontal conduit with the vertical
one
21. Go to Electrical Settings
22. Click Conduit Sizes, from the drop-down list, select RNC-Schedule80, select
21mm, click Modify Size, and change the Minimum Bend Radius = 50mm, click
OK
23. Start Conduit command again, and this time set the diameter = 21mm
24. Click the top right side of the CBSB, when the diagram comes up, make sure
that the distance is 73mm from the top, click Finish Connection button, and go
up 200mm, press [Esc] twice to end the command
25. Start Conduit command again, this time click the top left of the MP-1, you will
find it 73mm (it is at the Middle of the MP-1), click Finish Connection button,
and draw 700mm up, and go to the left until you align with the conduit from
CBSB
26. Using Trim / Extend to Corner, to connect the horizontal and vertical conduit.
You should have something like that:

28. Go to 1 – Power floor plan view


29. Start Cable Tray command, keep all the default values the same
30. Starting from the Electrical Room, from the midpoint of the corridors between
the offices draw tray going all the way to the Electrical Room then draw trays
to cover all the other offices, corridors, cafeteria, toilets, converting elbows to
tee, and converting tee to cross as needed (set Middle Elevation = 3000mm)
31. Save and close the file

Tutorial 35: Setup Panel Schedule:


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_35.rvt
3. You are at Electrical / Power / Floor Plans / 1 – Power
4. From Project Browser scroll to Panel Schedule, select PP-1 schedule
5. Check the columns A, B, & C, at the end of the columns, you will find the Total
Load, and the Total Amps but they are not balanced
6. Select Circuit # 1, and move it down. What happened to the Total Loads, and
Total Amps. Move Circuit # 3 (which was Circuit # 1) across and down.
7. Click Rebalance Loads button

8. You can lock any circuit and assign spare if you want
9. Go to MP-1 Panel Schedule
10. Check the three Load Classifications listed at the end of the schedule
11. Go to at 1 – Power, and set the Detail Level to Medium
12. Go to Analyze tab, locate Check Systems panel, click Show Disconnects, then
select Electrical, click OK
13. You will find that Switches are not assigned to any panel. For Manager Room,
find out the lights are in which circuit and assign the two switches to the same
panel (using 277V)

Tutorial 36: Dimension and Text


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_36.rvt
3. You are at Electrical / Power / Floor Plans / 1 – Power
4. From the Project Browser, Go to Electrical / ??? / Sections, rename the section
to be Electrical Room, from Properties, set the Sub-Discipline to be Power
5. Go to Electrical Room section view
6. Using Spot Elevation command, set the Spot Elevation for the Cable Tray, and
the Ceiling, and the top of MP-1 panel
7. Go to Plumbing / Plumbing / Floor Plans / 1 – Plumbing
8. Create a duplicate, and call it 1 – Plumbing Dimension
9. Zoom to the Ladies Room. Create an aligned Dimension from the face of each
wall to the center of each water closet from left to right, and put it
underneath
10. Select the dimension you made, click Edit Type, click Duplicate and call it the
same name changing 2.5 to 1.5, then change the Text Size to be 1.5mm
11. Move the small dimensions outside the series of dimension
12. Start the Text command, select Two Segment, and Middle Left, click your first
point inside the right toilet the second point outside, then type Handicap
Toilet
13. Go back to Electrical / Power / Floor Plans / 1 – Power
14. Start Text command, click Edit Type, Duplicate, call the new text Style 1.5mm,
and click OK. Set the color to Red, Font = Calibri, and the size = 1.5mm, Bold
and Italic. Select No Leader, type inside the Electrical Room: Caution:
Hazardous Area

3. Create legend view, and call it Electrical Legend. The legend should look like

Tutorial 38: Adding Tags


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_38.rvt
3. You are at Electrical / Lighting / Ceiling Plans / 1 – Ceiling Elec
4. Create a Duplicate with Detailing. Rename the new view 1 – Ceiling Elec Tags
5. Zoom to the left Manager Office
6. Start Tag by Category, from Properties turn off Leader. Hover over the top left
light, you will see the number “1” is displayed, click to insert it. This is the
circuit number of this light fixture.
7. Insert the same tag for all the other three lights
8. Select the four tags, and nudge them outside the light fixtures, then from the
Type Selector, change the family to m_Standard
9. Select one of the tags, from the context tab, click Edit Family
10. Save As the family as My_Lighting_Tag.rfa
11. Click 1i, from Properties, click Label Edit
12. You will see that the label displayed is the Circuit Number, click Cancel

Tutorial 41: Creating and Modifying HVAC Schedules

field, click the small button with three dots. Using Add button, add the images

Tutorial 44: Fabrication Parts
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open the file Tutorial_44.rvt
3. You are at Mechanical / HVAC / Ceiling Plans / 2 – Ceiling Mech
4. Start Fabrication Settings command, from Fabrication Configurations; select
Revit MEP Metric Content V2.41. Under Services select Ductwork: (250PA),
and add it to the right. Click Fluid tab, for Ductwork: (250PA) select Fluid = Air.
Click OK to end the command
5. Zoom to the finished ductwork at the bottom offices. Hover over one of the
supply ducts, press [Tab] until all the ducts are highlighted, then click to select,
from context tab, click Design to Fabrication button, don’t change the size,
click (✓) to end the command.
6. While the ducts selected, from context tab, click Optimize Length button
(check if there are any warning left)
7. Select the Supply Ducts again, and click Selection Box command, to see a 3D
ductwork for the selected ducts
8. Select all Square Bend, from Properties, change them to Reducing Bend (there
are seven of them)
9. Go back to 2 – Ceiling Mech
10. Click Fabrication Part, from the tool palette at the right, change the Palette to
Hangers, select Strut Hanger and add it to several locations.
11. Look at it in the 3D view, you will discover that hangers are connected to the
nearest floor
12. Go to 2 – Ceiling Mech
13. Zoom out, and then zoom to the rooms at the top. Pick Straight, from
Properties you can change the Length Option to Value, but we will leave it to
be Automatic
14. Hover over the right of the VAV Box (Supply Air), and add as many segments
of the straight duct to reach to the last air terminal. From the palette select
Square Elbow, connect it to the last straight duct (use [Space] to rotate it).
15. In order to add shoes, you need a continuous segment, so, whenever you
need; delete the straight segment, and elongate the left one to fill in the void.
16. We are ready to add shoes. Start Fabrication Parts command, select Shoe, add
it to the left straight segment near the VAV box. Select the Shoe, click Edit
Part, change Top Width = 300mm. Align the shoe to the air terminal
17. Do the same for the next two shoes
18. For the Square Elbow, select it, click Edit Part, set Top Width = 300, and Depth
= 300, then Align it to the air terminal

19. Select the shoe at the left, click Route and Fill, browse through the three
solutions. Pick Solution 2, and finish the command. Do the same thing with
the other shoes, and square elbow
20. Select one of the shoes, and add a ADSK Manual damper (browse through the

26. Add an End Cap for the right portion of the duct
27. Optimize the length of the run
28. Using Load Autodesk Family, make sure you are in United States – Metric,
from the left pane, click MEP Fabrication/Ductwork Stiffeners, and select
External Rectangular Angle Iron, click Load
29. From Systems tab, locate MEP Detailing panel, click MEP Fabrication Ductwork
Stiffeners button, and add it to the last ducting work
30. Select the duct run, and click Selection Box, view it in 3D

13. If you want the PDF to be to-scale we need to scale it first:
a. Select the linked file, and click Enable Snaps button
b. Start the Measure Between Two References command, and measure
the dimension at the upper right of the PDF file, you will find it to be
1608.7 (it should be 2500)
c. Select the PDF file, and click Scale command, make sure the Options
bar, is using Graphical
d. Select the upper point, then the lower point, then type 2500
e. Re-measure the same distance again, it should read 2500
f. Now the PDF is to scale
14. Start Wall command, and select Generic 300 from the Type Selector, set the
height from Level 1 to Level 2, and Location line to be Finish Face Exterior,
select Pick Lines, and click the outer edge of the existing wall
15. Go to 3D view, to view the walls added to your file
16. Go back to Level 1 view
17. Note the curtain wall at the right, and its length which is 6000 mm
18. Select the PDF Link
19. Click Manage Links button
20. Click Reload From, and select Ground_Floor_Rev1.pdf, click Open, select the
first page, and click OK twice
21. You can see that the new PDF changed the length to 4000mm
22. Save and close the file

Tutorial 50: PDF Export
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open Tutorial_50.rvt
3. Go to File menu, click Export, then click PDF Export
4. A dialog box will come up
5. Under Export Range, click choose Selected views / sheets, then click the pencil
at the right to select the desired views and sheets.
6. At the top click Create button and call the new set, My_First, then select the
following views:
a. Floor Plan 0 GF – Dimension
b. Floor Plan 0 GF – Rooms
c. Floor Plan 0 GF – Tags
d. Reflected Ceiling Plans 0 GF
7. Click Save, then click Select
8. Keep the name of the PDF file to be Ground_Floor.PDF
9. Turn on the checkbox for Combining the views and sheets in single file
10. Set where you want to save the file
11. Set the Page Size to be ISO A3: 297 x 420mm, and Zoom to 100%
12. Paper Placement = Center
13. Orientation = Landscape
14. Leave the rest to the default values
15. Under Export Setup, click Save As, and name the Setup A3
16. Click Export button
17. Look at your PDF file
18. Save and close the file

Tutorial 51: Elements Colors and Lineweights


1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open Tutorial_51.rvt
3. Switch the Thin Line command on and off to see the difference. Make sure to
leave it off
(What we will do with Object Styles will affect only the current file)
4. Go to Manage tab, locate Settings panel, click Object Styles command, using
Filter list select Mechanical
5. The first thing is Air Terminal, and set Line Weight – Projection to be 1, click
OK and see how the air terminals weight changed

7. Search for Duct, note that there is no Line Weight – Cut for Duct because it is
always projection. Change the Line Weight – Projection to be 2
8. Click OK to see the difference
9. Start the command again
10. Search for Mechanical Equipment, do the following:
a. Change the Color to Yellow
b. Change the Line Pattern to Dash
11. Click OK to see the result of you did
12. Go to Manage tab, locate Settings panel, click Additional Settings, then select
Line Patterns
13. Create a new line pattern, call it Dash 3 Dots, use the following dialog box to
fill the information:

14. Click OK
15. Go to Manage tab, locate Settings panel, click Additional Settings, then select
Line Styles
16. Create a new line style, and call it My_Company, Line Projection = 3, Color =
Red, and Line Pattern = Dash 3 Dots
17. Go to Annotate tab, locate Detail panel, click Detail Line command, then select
Line Style = My_Company
18. Draw any lines you want, and see the result
19. Save and close the file

Tutorial 52: Filters
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open Tutorial_52.rvt
3. Using Project Browser search for Families, locate Duct Systems / Duct System,
and you will find three pre-made systems, Exhaust Air, Return Air, and Supply
Air. Double-click each one, and Edit the Graphic Overrides
4. If you choose Visual Style = Shaded, it will shade with the Gray color!! Bring it
back to Hidden Line
5. Go to View tab, locate Graphics panel, click Filters
6. Click New at the bottom left, and call the new filter Duct Supply. From the
Categories click Duct Accessories, Duct Fittings, and Ducts. Using Filter Rules
select System Classification, then equals to Supply Air
7. Close the Filter dialog box
8. Start Visibility / Graphics command, click Filter tab. Add the filter you just
made. Set the Projection Pattern to be as follows – using Solid Fill and Blue
color:

9. Click OK to see the colors of each Duct


10. Save and close the file

Tutorial 53: Creating your own Title Block
1. Start Revit 2025
2. Open Tutorial_53.rvt
3. Create a new sheet, use A0 paper size
4. Rename the sheet as P-0, and the title = Level 1 Floor Plan
5. You can see that the logo is not right, and the size of some of the text is not
correct
6. Double click the border of the title block to edit it
7. Select the Autodesk logo, and the web site address, and delete both
8. Using Insert Image command, insert the logo available in tutorial folder
9. Select Client Name label, click Edit Type, Duplicate, call the new type 10mm,
set the Text Size = 10mm, and change the Font to be Tahoma
10. Change Project Name, and Sheet Name to be 10mm
11. Select the DRW label, and edit the label to show Author
12. Rename the family to be A0 metric_Our_Office.rfa
13. Load and close the new title block
14. Change the title block to the new type
15. Edit the Client Name, Project Name
16. Go to Manage tab, click Project Information, and fill in your name as the
Author, change the Project Number to be P-1010, and Project Issue Date =
06.1.2025
17. Drag any view inside this new sheet
18. Save and close
