other gadgets. Because of this, people feel compelled to buy
these products, making them popular and eventually part of
mainstream culture.
2. Substitutes

Popular culture is sometimes considered a


"substitute" or alternative. This happens when
people cannot afford expensive clothing or
accessories, so they opt for cheaper alternatives.
Over time, these alternatives become widely used
and trendy
3. Mass or Commercial Culture

Related to the idea of affordability, mass


production allows people to buy inexpensive
items in large quantities. Popular culture
today includes common, mass-produced
items that many people own.
4. Created by People

Popular culture can be created by individuals, such


as famous personalities who set trends that others
follow. As more people adopt these trends, they
enter the mainstream. This process of popularizing
trends can be for business, fame, or simply
entertainment.
5. Influence of Powerful Nations

Popular culture often reflects admiration for dominant


nations. People tend to favor and adopt products, clothing,
or trends from these countries because they perceive them
as superior. This can negatively impact local industries, as
domestic products receive less support. Consequently,
foreign cultures and traditions are valued more than local
ones.
6. The Blurring of Cultural Boundaries

longer limit the spread of popular culture. High
culture and low culture, local culture, commercial
culture, and popular culture blend together,
