Dispositors in

Astrology

J N Bhasin
Sh. J.N. Bhasin is not a new figure to the world of
Astrology. It was due to his rationalizing sincere efforts
that people in general got interested in Astrology as he
made this tedious and dry subject an interesting one.
The quality of his works is such that the reader leaves
them only after having gone through them.
You are also well aware that we are a store house of
astrological classics and have got translated almost all
the established old classics of Maharishis and Acharyas
in lucid English and Hindi, Present work is an exposition
of the Principles of Maharishi Parasara, Acharya
Vaidyanatha and many others. We are also endeavoring to get
you the entire range of astrological publications from
publishers overseas, as quite a few readers amongst you have
evinced great interest in the same.

To err is human. Therefore, we do not claim any

Introduction

(1) Whatever be the mode of pre diction or divination,

a careful scrutiny of the planets is not only essential
but also inevitable. In Palmistry for instance, we study
the various signs and lines but there too, the study of
planets is done through the study of the mounts on the
hand. It is not possible to interpret the mounts without
knowledge of traits and qualities of respective planets.
We must know traits of Jupiter to understand the mount
of Jupiter, we must know what Saturn stands for in order
to interpret the mount of Saturn and so on. Numerology
has a still more intimate link with the traits and
characteristics of various planets. Each of the numbers
in Numerology stands for a planet and without a
thorough knowledge of the good and bad qualities of
planets, it is simply not possible to have a clear approach
to Numerology. Similarly in the art of prediction called
'Ramal' we have 16 shapes comprising of the dots and
dashes, where each of these shapes stands for a
particular sign of the Zodiac and therefore, for a specific
planet in the heavens. The planets as studied in Ramal
Shastra, predict the nature of coming events.
(2) In Astrology, proper study of planets is, of course,
of utmost importance. In fact every Anga or limb or
constituent has to be understood for the qualities of a
planet before any judgment is pronounced. The signs
of the Zodiac are taken in Astrology like planets i.e., of
course, done by allotting planets the lordship of signs.
Similarly the Nakshatras i.e. the asterisms are also used
as planets, in as much as we have allotted lordships of
asterisms to planets as would be seen from the study of
Vimshottari Dasa system. For example, the asterism
Ashwiniis represented by the planet Ketu, Bharani by
Venus, Krittikdby the Sun, Rohini by the Moon and so
on. 30 tithis have also been divided into 6 sets of 5 tithis
each. T he first tithi in each set is named as Nanda for
the exultant and luxurious planet Venus. T he second
tithi goes by the name Bhadra related to and represented
by the planet Mercury, T he third tithi is known as Jay a —
the victorious, drawing its traits and qualities from and
being represented by the planet Mars. T he fourth tithi
in the set goes by the name Rikta — the empty,
represented by the empty, scanty and poor planet
Saturn. Last of all, we have the 5th tithi called poorna—
the full, or the complete, represented by the planet
Jupiter which is, of course, poorna or full of qualities as
well as wealth.
(3) Planets are thus the primary instruments of
prediction. The system of Karakas and Marakas,
adumberated by Maharshi Parasara, has made the
planets assume all sorts of roles consistent with and
dictated by the wide conditions prevailing in our globe.
Under his system planets are treated not only as natural
malefics and benefics but also assume different and
varied roles, neutral, good, bad, changeable and fixed
as well, thus giving us variety in the heavens that
correspond to the conditions on earth. The system of
Parasara thus works as a very sound and basic system
of Astrology.
(4) The scheme of dispositors here being presented
in this book, however, constitutes a step higher up in
the evolution of the science of Astrology. In this scheme
of dispositors, the planets sometimes rather in a
considerable number of cases, exhibit results least
expected of them. One planet may be worst for a
particular Lagna under the system of Parasara but it
may be found to give contrarily the best results for other
Lagnas. The dispositors also give results of the planets
occupying their signs. For example, Venus is considered
inauspicious planet by Maharishi Parasara for people
having Scorpio as their Lagna, but suppose in a Scorpio
nativity the 12th house is occupied by the Sun and Moon
in the sign Libra—owned by Venus. Now, Venus has
been declared as inauspicious planet for Scorpio
nativities under the system of Parasara. But Venus in
such circumstances would also give, auspicious results
of the Sun and Moon being their dispositor. The Sun
and Moon are auspicious planets for Scorpio natives,
under the rules laid down by Parasara. Thus Venus
would also give auspicious results of these two
auspicious planets.
(5) One need not be surprised, the way in which
dispositors, along with their own effects, also give the
effects of planets whose dispositors they become. This
is as it should be, for, there is nothing in this universe
that exists or works in isolation. Just as the food problem
in any part of the world has its effects on other parts of
the world, or just as epidemics in one part of the world
affect rest of the world, in the same manner, planets
located in any sign, influence to considerable extent the
lord of that sign.
(6) Thus, in actual experience we see that the basic
nature of a planet undergoes modification. Planets
considered as natural benefics may, some times do act
as malefics, as a result of the malefic influences they
may be situated under. Jupiter—the greatest benefic has
sometimes in actual experience been seen to function
as the worst malefic. This is noticed when Jupiter is
located under malefic influences of a very heavy or
severe type. A planet may be afflicted in one or more of
the following ways:
(i) It may be occupying a bad house.
(ii) It may be situated in an inimical sign,
(iii) It may be associated with natural malefic planets.
(iv) It may be under the aspect of natural malefic
planets.
(v) It may be under the aspect of dispositor of natural
malefic planets.
(vi) It may have on either side of it, the malefic
influence of malefic planets by their aspects or
placement etc.
(vii) It may be lacking in directional strength,
(viii) It may be in its sign of debilitation.
(ix) It may be ill positioned from its own signs.
(x) It may be suffering from the planets, whose
influence is carried to it through the shadowy
planets, Rahu and Ketu.
(xi) It may be acting as the dispositor of malefic planet
or planets.
(7) Jupiter who has imbibed malefic influences in
any of the four or more ways listed above, not only
ceases to be a natural benefic but on the contrary, acts
as a malefic planet, We may be wondering, one fine
morning, why the father of a particular native had died
when the native was hardly a year old, when Jupiter in
the native's birth chart was throwing its influence on
all the factors signifying father i.e. the 9th house, lord
of the 9th house and significator of father i.e. the Sun.
In such case, if you study the birth chart you will
invariably find Jupiter heavily afflicted, Jn such a case
where Jupiter has become a malefic, it is precisely due
to the malefic aspect; of Jupiter that father did not get any
more longevity.
(8) We may have another case of Jupiter located in
Gemini in the 7th house of a nativity belonging to a
female. Malefics like the Sun, Mars and Saturn occupy
the sign Sagittarius owned by Jupiter. Such a Jupiter
may deny or delay marriage to the girl. In such a case
the 7th house is considered occupied by a strongly
inauspicious Jupiter for being the dispositor of malefic
planets. Such Jupiter is bound to function as a malefic
and afflict the 7th house.
(9) We comprehend thus that the scheme where-
under the results of dispositors are being in evidence is
one that constitutes a step further in the advancement
of Astrology. If we do not take into account the fact in
regard to the functioning of planets as dispositors, we
are sure to incur fallacy in our judgement and thereby
earn disrepute to Astrology.
(10) Again consider, Venus in the 2nd house in
Capricorn in a male nativity, where Ketu and Mars are
located together in Taurus in the 6th house. One familiar
with the functioning of dispositors in Astrology will run
away with the notion that Venus a natural benefic,
located in a friendly sign in the house of longevity of
wife, may actually have had only a few days of married
life and died. The reason for all too short life to wife is
the dispositorship of Venus of two first rate killers —
Mars and. Ketu. There is also the influence of Ketu and
Mars on Venus and on the house of longevity of wife
through the 9th aspect of Rahu.
(11) It is our conviction that the interpretation of a
horoscope, if carried out according to the principles laid
down by the father of Vedic Astrology Maharshi Parasara,
with due regard to the functioning of planets as dispositors in
the horoscope, and after taking into consideration the results of
aspects of the nodes—Rahu and Ketu as detailed by us in the
body of this book, will yield wonderfully accurate results,

RULES

Rule 1

Navamsa
(1) The texts often refer to the positions of Navamsa
lords of planets, We will also have occasion to cite
reference to this term during the discussion in this book.
It is, therefore, essential to know how that planet i.e.
the lord of a Navamsa is worked out. Navamsa is a
Sanskrit word and means "the l/9th part" i.e., l/9th
part of the measure of a sign i.e., 3 degree and
20 minutes, According to the fundamental rules and
requirements of Astrology each 3 degrees and 20 minutes
in a sign are owned by a specific planet. The Navamsas
belong to specific signs and those signs have their lords
as usual, we know this from elementary Astrology. For
the benefit of the readers we give below a few examples
to show how the lord of Navamsa is worked out
Example (i) —Suppose longitude of the Sun in a
nativity is 8-3°-40'. This longitude would mean that the
Sun has traversed complete 8 signs and is occupying
the 4th degree of the 9th sign and there too it's 40th
minute. Since the: elongation of one Navamsa is

Rule 2
Dasa and Bhukti
Dasa is the word that denotes a system following
which the timing of events is carried out in Astrology.
There are many systems of working out the Dasa, but
the one that is widely recognised in Hindu Astrology goes by
the name of Vimshottari. As far as our knowledge goes
Vimshottari is used by the authors of such wonderful works as
Bhrigu Samhita, Sapta Rishi Nadi etc. Its name Vimshottari
comprises of Vimsh and Uttari, meaning 20 and 100
respectively. This system has a total of 120 years allotted to
various planets. Under this system the Sun in his Dasa rules for
6 years, the Moon for 10 years, Mars for 7 years, Rahu for 18
years, Jupiter for 16 years, Saturn for 19 years, Mercury for 17
years, Ketu for 7 years and Venus for 20 years. The order in
which planets rule is Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn,
Mercury, Ketu and Venus. The ruling period i.e., Dasa at birth
starts with that of the planet who is lord of asterism occupied
by the Moon at birth. The lords of asterisms from one to nine,
from ten to eighteen and from nineteen to twenty seven in
sequence are the same viz., Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars,
Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury. The period of a planet is
shared by other planets also. The period of Sun i.e., six years
are sub divided among all the 9 planets, the first sub-period
being ruled by the Sun. Similarly, the period of ten years for
which the Moon rules is shared by all the 9 planets. Here also
the Moon to whom the main period belongs,
16 Dispositors in Astrology
lords the first sub-period. The balance of years etc. for
which a planet has to rule a person is worked out from
the position i.e., the longitude of the Moon at the
moment of birth. For this purpose the entire zodiac of
360 degree is divided into 27 equal parts called the asterisms
or Nakshatras. Each part obviously consists of thirteen degrees
and twenty minutes. The balance of years for which a planet
has to rule is worked out by the simple rule of three, i.e., if the
whole span of 13 degrees and 20 minutes of the Nakshatra
involved takes the number of years involved for the lord of
Nakshatra. then how much period would be involved for the
balance of the asterism i.e., the Nakshatra yet to be traversed
by the Moon at birth? This having been worked out; we go on
adding to it the number of years to arrive at the next Nakshatra
lords the date for which we desire to ascertain the nature of
events. The sub-period of a planet in the various main periods
is in proportion, that its own number of years, bear to the total
number of years i.e., 120. For example, we desire to know the
span of the ruling sub-periods of various planets in the main
ruling period of 16 years of Jupiter. Jupiter will have its sub-
period first of all. Its duration will be 16/120 of 16-years. Next
sub-period of Saturn, will have it as 19/120of 16 years. Next
sub-period of Mercury, will have it as 17/120 of 16 years. Then
will come the sub-period of Ketu, will have it as 7/120 of 16
years. Next will come the sub-period of Venus, will have it as
20/120 of 16 years. Next will come the sub-period of Sun, will
have it as 6/120 of 16 years. Next will come the sub-period of
Moon, will have it as 10/120 of 16 years. Next will come the
sub-period of Mars of 7/120 of 16 years. Last of all will come
the sub-period of Rahu
Dispositors in Astrology 17
and will have it as 18/120 of 16 years. An easy way to
determine the sub-periods of planets is to multiply the
main periods of the main (Dasa) and the sub-period
(Bhukti) lords involved and place the decimal before the
digit at units place in the product. The answer is the
period in months . Suppose, for example, we desire to
ascertain the sub-period of Saturn in the main period of
Jupiter. Then 19 x 16 = 304. Placing the decimal ahead the
figure 4; we get 30 months i.e., 2 years and 6 months. The
subdecimal figure 0,4 months gives us (30 x 0.4) = 12 days.
Thus the sub-period of Saturn in the main period of Jupiter is 2
years 6 months and 12 days.
RuleS
The Moola Trikona or the Positive Sign
The positive or Moola Trikona sign of the Sun is 5, i.e.
Leo; of Moon 2, i.e. Taurus; of Mars 1, i/e. Aries; of
Mercury 6, i.e. Virgo; of Jupiter 9, i.e. Sagittarius; of
Venus 7, i.e. Libra; of Saturn 11, i.e., Aquarius. Planets
in their ruling main and sub periods give good or bad
results of the good or bad houses in which their Moola
Trikona signs fall. The good houses for wealth in the
horoscope are the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th,
while the bad ones are the 3rd, 6th, 8th and 12th.
Rule 4
Paksha Bala or Fortnightly strength of Moon
The Moon is considered strong in Paksha strength, if
it is more than 72 degrees away from the Sun. In such a
case the Moon functions as a benefic planet. If within
72 degrees from the Sun in any direction it is considered
as malefic and functions as such. The lesser the distance
than 72 degree, the more malefic she is.
18 Dispositors In Astrology
Rule 5
Aspects of Planets
'Aspects' are of equal importance as conjunction of
planets are in Astrology. These aspects of the planets
are like the witnesses in a law-suit, where a good witness
has the capacity to secure judgment in favour of a weak
suit, likewise the aspects of good planets on the bad
planets turn them often into good planets with
consequential good results.
All planets aspect or throw their influence on the
houses, signs or the planets placed seventh from them,
The seventh house in all cases is counted in Vedic
Astrology by counting the house in which the aspecting
planet is situated as first house. Apart from the above
common aspects, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn have special
aspects additionally. Mars not only aspects or influences
fully the house etc. 7th from it, but it has the aspects or
the influence (full) on the houses etc. located 4th and
8th from it. Similarly Jupiter aspects or Influences not- only the
house etc. 7th from it but also the houses etc. 5th and 9th from
it. Also the planet Saturn, not only aspects or influences the
house etc. 7th from it but fully aspects the houses etc. 3rd and
10th from it
Rahu and Ketu in common with other planets aspect
or influence the house etc. 7th from them. They in
addition also fully aspect or influence the houses etc.
5th and 9th form them. In most of the books on Astrology
available in the market, the mention of the special
aspects of Rahu and Ketu is conspicuous by absence.
It is for the first time in the history of Astrology that
the importance of the special aspects of the nodes
and their functioning has been brought by us to the
notice of Astrological students. The author of these lines
Dispositors in Astrology 19
takes no credit for introducing these aspects. He is not
audacious enough to bring in a rule not sanctioned by
Maharshi Parasara. In the case under consideration the
rule in regard to the aspects of Rahu and Ketu is enjoined
by no less an authority than Maharshi Parasara—father
of Vedic Astrology. The rule was there all the time, but
seems to have escaped the notice of astrologers,
probably due to omission in print in some editions of
his work BrihatParasharHora Shastra'. We were lucky
to have come across the rule in the following shloka -
<i),M<l'l'l<ll'<l 'l.uf,tfi.,if.H4
<J;IH<IWltl
<:1\\<ilfiqq,p:i1<l,tf"'- :
 iffli:l'll'<I: 'IWl:'lc:
i.e., Rahu has full aspect on the houses etc. located
5th, 7th and 9th from it. It has half the aspect (influence)
on the house 2nd and 10th from it. It aspects with a
quarter strength on the house 3rd and 6th from it, and
is blind towards the house it occupies i.e. has no aspect on it. It
seems, the author of 'Jyotisha Tatwam' was aware of the said
aspects of nodes, though his shloka is a bit different in import.
But so far as the full aspect of nodes is concerned both agree.
Here is his shloka -
' ,ait <flffl: wrnr,
ms!fllT'fTll"A
f/;41<1,tfti tf!!#t
41.jfi-ldl ............ ,..
i.e., Rahu aspects with full aspect the houses 5th, 9th
and 7th from it. It has no aspect on the house it occupies.
It has half the aspect on the 2nd and 10th houses and
one fourth on the 3rd and 6th houses from it. In any case the
5th, 7th and 9th aspect of Rahu and Ketu is in full accord with
the standard texts and people are
20 Dispositors in Astrology
ignoring it due to their own doubts. In view of the 'shadowy
nature of nodes, we have added as a corollary that in throwing
their special or ordinary aspects, the nodes Rahu and Ketu also
throw the influence of planets with which they are associated
or by whom they are aspected. For example, if Rahu is in the
10th house and Mars in the 7th, then in throwing its 7th aspect
on the 4th house, Rahu will also carry as it were, to that house,
the effects of Mars as well.

Rule 6
Kuja (Mars) Dosha
In the birth charts of males as well as females the
location of Mars In the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th from
the Ascendant has been considered astrologically
dangerous for the life prospects of life partner i.e., wife
or husband, as the case may be. The reason is not
difficult to see. Mars located in the first house aspects
fully by its 7th aspect, the 7th house i.e. the house of spouse
and the 8th house, Mangalya Sthana of wife. Located in the
4th house it throws its frill special 4th aspect on the same 7th
house. Located in the 7th, it afflicts again the 7th house.
Located in the 12th house it throws its special 8th aspect on the
same 7th house. As regards the location of Mars in the 8th
house of the horoscope, its location there afflicts, by full 7th
aspect, the 2nd house and Mangalya Sthana by its placement.
Now since the 2nd house is 8th from 7th, it is the house of
longevity of partner, and its affliction by Mars tells heavily on
the longevity of partner. Having gone through the rationale of
the Kuja Dosha as above, it is reasonable to hold that Mars
located in the 11th house would be equally dangerous to the
life prospects of partner, since it afflicts the 2nd house by its
4th aspect,
Dispositors in Astrology 21
and shortens thereby the longevity of partner. It should,
however, be remembered that even though there may
be Kuja Dosha present in a birth chart yet other factors
bestowing life to the partner may outweigh Mars in effects and
thereby may not lead to the early demise of partner, The factors
are, of course strength of the 7th house, strength of lord of the
7th house and strength of the significator of the 7th house viz.,
Venus for male and Jupiter for female natives. In case the 7th
house contains a planet in dignity or exaltation, and its lord is
well situated and well aspected and its significator is strong by
house position or by retrogression, then the presence of Kuja
Dosha does very little harm. Thus 'Kuja Dosha’ is not the last
word in deciding the longevity of partner. One has to see the
net effects of planets and then draw conclusions accordingly.
Many a time people are unnecessarily scared of the Kuja
Dosha.

Rule 7
Sub-period Lord
We have often stated in our books on the Dasa system
that the planet ruling a person as the sub-period lord
invariably influences the main period lord. It will be in
the interest of readers for correct evaluation of Dasa
results to go through" Secrets of Vimshottari Das a" and
"Laghu Parasari" by O.P. Verma. We will illustrate the
use of this rule during the study of various problems in
the pages to follow. For example, in regard to the sub
period of Mars in the main period of Mercury J.P. 18/

Rule 8
The Deliberate Self
There are certain acts of life which denote actions of
deliberate nature on the part of native. For example, in
cases of suicide, it is the result of deliberate action of
self that one embraces death. In the case of family planning
too, where one seeks to abandon progeny to oneself. Measures
taken in that direction are the results of deliberate action by the
seffln case of one commiting a murder, again, it is the
deliberate self that comes into operation. Even in cases where
one is deadly opposed to any other person, it is the deliberate
self that comes into operation. Thus, it is very helpful in the
astrological analysis to know the factors that constitute the
deliberate self of a native, Firstly, it is lord of the first house
that represents the self and acts deliberately, in the good or bad
direction accordingly as the said lord is a natural benefic or
malefic planet (See rule 9). Then the 3rd and 11th houses
being the houses of arms—right and left, rather indicating
efforts and aspirations; represent the deliberate self, forit is
through the arms and endeavours that most of the acts are
done. Then there is lord of the 10th house, which also
constitutes deliberate self, for it is the representative of Karma,
the results of which are to be reaped by self. Combined action
by Venus and Jupiter—lords of the 1st and 3rd houses
repectively in the case of Libra nativity would constitue
deliberate action for the good of others. So also will be the
case when these two planets act together in the case of Taurus
nativity, On the contrary, deliberate action in the wrong
direction i.e, to harm others will be involved when Mars and
Saturn act together in the case of Aries native and also in the
case of Scorpio native. The classical example
Dispositors in Astrology 23
can be king Aurangzeb (horoscope No. 1), who took deliberate
action to eliminate his elder brothers. It would be seen in this
case that Jupiter who is the significator of elder brothers has
also become lord of the llth house—the house for elder
brothers. Now mark action of the malefics, Saturn and Mars
—lords of the 1st and 3rd houses acting in deliberate manner,

course, against Jupiter, whom both of them aspect,
Saturn by full 10th house aspect and Mars by full 7th
house aspect. Thus the deliberate action of king
Aurangzeb to harm and eliminate his elder brothers, is
fully justified, of course, astrologically.
Rule 9
Malefic and Benefic Planets
Although, when you have gained sufficient
competence in Astrology you will find that even best
known benefics turn as worst malefics, yet to introduce
planets to the beginner, it is very essential that he be
told, first of all, the basic classification of planets malefics
and benefics. According to this basic scheme the Sun,
Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu have been declared natural
malefics, who by their association or aspect, spoil the
affairs of the house etc. they influence. Then there are
24 Dispositors in Astrology
natural benefics—Jupiter and Venus, who, by their
aspect or association boost or enhance the prospects of
the house etc., which they influence. The Moon is a
natural benefic, but only when she is away from the
Sun by more than 72 degrees, whether she is located
ahead or behind the Sun. In case she is located within
the stipulated range of 72 degrees, she is treated as a
malefic, that is to say, she will harm the prospects of the
house etc. which she influences either by association or
by aspect. Mercury is a planet, who, by himself is a
benefic. But we rarely find him situated alone, without
any influence on it. When it is under the benefic
influence of other benefic planets it behaves as benefic
planet, and gives the beneficence of its association or
aspect to the party involved by its influence. When it is
with malefics it becomes a malefic and thus enhances
malefic action. Rahu and Ketu play both the roles i.e;,
as malefics as well as benefics. With benefics or under
the influence of benefics, they give good results
otherwise they act very badly. In regard to their aspect
and how it works, see rule 5. Planets are malefics or
benefics functionally, also under the house lordship scheme of
Maharshi Parasara. Under this scheme lords of the trinal
houses i.e. the 1st, 5th and 9th lords always give good results
especially in their main and subperiods irrespective of the fact
whether they are natural malefics or benefics. For example,
Saturn, lord of the 5th house — a trinal house will give
affluence and power in its main and sub-periods. The lords of
the Kendra houses i.e. of the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses
cease to be natural malefics or natural benefics. For example,
Venus, lord of the 7th house for people born with Aries as their
Ascendant ceases to be benefic. Similarly Mars, lord of the 7th
house for Libra natives, ceases to be a
Dispositors in Astrology 25
malefic. For lords of the 2nd and 12th houses the rule
laid by Maharshi Parasara is that they are good or bad
accordingly as their other sign falls in a good or ga(j house.
For example, Jupiter in the case of people, born with Scorpio
as their Ascendant, will give good results by virtue of the fact
that it owns simultaneously the 5th house of the horoscope,
which is a good house, while Saturn, lord of the 2nd house in
the case of people with Sagittarius as their Ascendant, will
give bad results in its main and sub-periods.

Similarly Mars, lord of the 11th and 6th houses in

the cases of Gemini nativities, will give bad results in
its main and sub-periods as it owns simultaneously the
6th house which is one of the bad houses in the
horoscope. Again Jupiter, lord of the 12th and 9th houses
in the cases of Aries nativities, will give good results
because Jupiter owns simultaneously the 9th house — one Of
the best house. Lords of the 3rd, 6th, 8th and 12th houses by
themselves give bad results, as these are bad houses. Now,
special point about the scheme of Maharshi Parasara being
studied here is that planets who own simultaneously a
quadrant and a trine become Rajayogakaraka planets i.e.
planets for affluence and power and give very positive results
in such matters in their main and sub-periods, For example,
Mars for Cancer nativities, is a very nice Rajayogakaraka
planet, as he owns simultaneously the 10th (kendra) and 5th
(trikona) or trine. Even when two planets combine, where one
is the lord of a kendra and the other is the lord’of a trikona
they give nice results in their main and sub periods. It should,
however, he remembered that the good in such cases follows
only when both the planets simultaneously do not own any of
the bad houses, For example, the association of Jupiter and
26 Dispositors in Astrology
Saturn, in the cases of Gemini nativities, is not conducive
for wealth as Saturn simultaneously owns a bad house
viz. the ,8th and Jupiter the blemish of Kendradhipatya
Dosha and lordship of 7th house a Maraka house.
Similarly the association or relation of Jupiter and Venus,
in the cases of Leo nativities, would detract from the
good results as Venus owns simultaneously the 10th and
3rd houses, the latter house being a bad house and Jupiter owns
simultaneously the 5th and 8th houses, the latter being bad
house. There is yet another case where planets take up the role
of other planets. That happens when they become the
dispositors of other planets. For example, if Mars is locted in
Aquarius in the 7th house for Leo nativity, then Saturn who is
normally bad for this nativity, would somehow give good
results, by virtue of becoming the dispositor of

Mars—the Rajayogakaraka planet for Leo nativity. Please

see in this connection chapter 2, in which the role of
dispositors has been discussed with reference to various
textual authorities.
Rule 10
The Principle of Similarity
Although both the 3rd and 6th houses of a horoscope
are classified as bad houses, yet Jupiter, lord of these
houses in the cases of Libra nativities is an exception to
the general rule, and gives affluence and power in its
main and sub periods. The good effects attributed to
such a Jupiter (See shloka No. 1 of chapter on Libra
Ascendant in 'Bhavartha Ratnakara') are, in our opinion,
due-to the fact that there is similarity of traits of these
houses and the planet Jupiter i.e. both houses represent
gains in some sense, for the houses being Upachaya in
nature and their lord Jupiter being the significator of
Dispositors In Astrology 27
wealth, No other planet can be similar by ownership
except Mercury who no doubt becomes lord of the 3rd
and 6th houses in cases of Aries nativities, but since
Mercury is not the significator of wealth; he cannot by
himself be classified as a good planet and that for other
reasons too. It will, of course, give good results if it is
associated with or influenced by functional benefics (See rule 9
ante). In regard to Venus it is the opinion of both Uttar a
Kalamrita and Bhavartha Ratnakara that its location in the 6th
and 12th houses in certain cases is good for financial affairs.
Here also the principle of similarity is at work, for Venus is the
planet of material enjoyments and so also is the 12th house.
Their mutual link through the location of Venus in the 6th or
12th house is conducive for enjoyment and enjoyments cannot
be had without wealth, Although Mercury is not classified as a
benefic for Scorpio natives but its association with Jupiter
makes it and Jupiter conducive for wealth. (See shloka 1 of
chapter on Scorpio Ascendant in Bhavartha Ratnakara). Here
again the principle underlying the good results is due to the
similarity of traits between Mercury and Jupiter, Mercury as
lord of the house of gains i.e. wealth, while Jupiter is wealth
both as lord of the house of wealth and as the significator of
wealth. In shloka No. 3 of chapter on Sagittarius Ascendant, in
Bhavartha Ratnakara it is stated that, if in the cases of
Sagittarius nativities Saturn is located in the 3rd house and the
Sun and Venus are posited in the 9th, then Saturn in its Dasa
will bestow good luck, Here also the principle of similarity is
in action. The Sun as lord of the house of luck, is good and
Venus is good because it is having its Moola Trikona sign in
the house of gains, of which house it gives the results. Saturn
too although classified as a
28 Dispositors in Astrology
malefic for Sagittarius nativities has wealth in common
with the Sun and Venus, in as much as it is lord of the
house of wealth. Hence the statement, which is again
based on the principle of similarity of traits amongst
the planet taking part in the yoga. When lord of the 9th house
is located in the 9th and that of the 5th is located in the 5th, the
yoga thus formed is also considered to be conducive for the
acquisition of wealth. Here also the principle of similarity is in
action, for when, lord of the 5th house would be in its own sign
in the 5th, it would work as if it is lord of the 9th house, on the
principle of Bhavat Bhavam, 5th being 9th from 9th works as
9th, Here the principle of similarity is introduced through the
principle of Bhavat Bhavam. It is again, we think, in
recognition of the principle of similarity that Saturn a malefic
planet located in Leo in the 2nd house and aspecting the house
of longevity does not detract longevity, for longevity is
common to both Saturn and the 8th house, Saturn being the
significator of longevity.

Rule 11
Distinction Between
LIFE and WEALTH Prospects
Astrology teaches, (See shloka 1 of chapter 11 of
Jataka Parijata) when lord of any house aspects that
house, the significations of that house get boosted. This
rule proves a boon in cases where the houses involved are such
good houses as the Ascendant, the 5th or the 9th house etc. For
example, in the case of a Capricorn nativity, if Saturn is
located in Aries in the 4th house it will fully aspect its own
sign Capricorn located in the Ascendant, and will, therefore,
be conducive according to this rule, for significations of the
Ascendant i.e. to wealth and honour. Bui experience tells us
that in such
Dispositors in Astrology 29
cases life prospects of the native of house involved are not
boosted. In the example, Saturn in Aries in the 4th house cited
above; it is true that Saturn would be conducive to wealth and
honour, but would detract longevity of the person and would
not spare him in matters of health. Similarly, Mars located in
Capricorn in the 10th house, would be aspecting with 4th
aspect his own sign Aries in the Ascendant. The aspect would
be conducive to such traits of the Ascendant as wealth and
honour, but would indicate that the body would be subject to
injuries and that longevity would be shortened. Another point
from our experience worth mentioning is that when lord of the
11th house is a malefic planet i.e. the Sun, Mars or Saturn and
is placed in the 5th house, it is not conducive to the life
prospects of elder brother of the native, whom the 11th house
represents. In such cases distinction between life prospects and
wealth prospects has to be kept in mind. However the aspect of
lord of the llth house on the 11th house would be conducive
for acquisition of wealth, it would, at the same time, denote
that the elder brother is short lived. In fact if lord of the
llthhouse is placed in the 5th and is afflicted by another
malefic planet, birth or existence of elder brother would be
denied. Hence the rule that a house aspected by its own lord is
boosted is not absolute and does not apply to the longevity
prospects of the relative of that house.

Rule 12
Significator and House It Signifies
When a planet is significator of a particular house
and is located in that house it can become very
dangerous to the relative of that house in cases where it
is afflicted by the association or aspects of malefic
30 Dispositors in Astrology
planets. For example, in the case of an Aquarius nativity,
if Jupiter is located in the 11th house and is under the
aspect of Mars, then elder brother will be short lived.
The reason is not difficult to understand, We are taught
in Astrology that life, say, for example, of elder brother
should, like any other problem be judged by three
factors — the house involved, lord of the house involved and
significator of the house. Here lord of the llth house and
significator of the 11th house is Jupiter. It is, therefore, clear
that in this case where Jupiter located in the 11th is subjected
to malefic influence, all three out of the three factors
signifying the house (11th) would be afflicted, leading even to
denial of elder brother, An elder brother will be there in such
cases only rarely when lord of the 11th house is very strong
elsewhere and not otherwise. Similarly, Jupiter located in the
5th house and subjected to malefic influence would in
overwhelming number of cases deny a son to the native, unless
lord of the 5th house is strong elsewhere, The reason for denial
here also would be affliction of the 5th house and its
significator—Jupiter. The rule can be extended and applied to
other relatives such as father, mother etc. It is also clear that in
cases where the significator is not located in the house it
signifies, but is located with lord of the house it signifies, and
is subject to malefic influence of Mars etc. the relation
concerned would generally be denied, unless the house of
which significator is the lord is very well aspected. For
example, lord of the llthhouse located elsewhere than the 11th
with Jupiter and subjected to malefic influences, by
association or by aspects, would deny elder brother. Similarly,
lord of the 5th house located such would deny a son, unless the
11th house in case of the elder brother and the 5th house in
case of son are well aspected. It
Dispositors in Astrology 31

should be clear now that when a significator himself-

becomes lord of the house of which it is significator,
and is under malefic influences by association or aspects,
chances of existence of that relation concerned will be
far remote. Jupiter as lord of the 11th in the 11th house
under malefic influences will thus deny an elder brother
and Jupiter as lord of the 5th afflicted in the 5th house
would deny a son, Mars lord of the 3rd afflicted in the
3rd house would deny younger brother and so on.
Rule 13
Retrogression of Significators
in many birth charts you will see that the 5th house, its lord
and the significator of son i.e. Jupiter are afflicted and yet the
blessed native has sons. In such cases you are very likely to be
puzzled. But Astrology is a logical science. There must be
some reason in such cases for the acquisition of sons. That
reason, you will see, lies in retrogression of the significator of
sons—Jupiter, In other words, when the 5th house and its lord
both are afflicted and even the significator of sons i.e., Jupiter
is also somewhat under malefic influence, but such Jupiter is in
retrogression, the man will have male issues, provided, of
course, Jupiter is not influenced strongly by all the female
planets, in such a case it will give daughters, not sons. Jupiter,
for instance, would be considered a female planet, if in the
cases of Virgo nativities it is located in Cancer in the 11th
house, aspecting the 5th house. The reason for Jupiter
becoming a female planet and therefore, giving female issues
lies in the fact that Jupiter in such a case would be lord of the
4th house —the house of mother, and of the 7th house — the
house of wife, i.e, lords two houses each of which is a female
house. Besides, Jupiter would be
32 Dispositors in Astrology
occupying an even (female) sign owned by the female
Moon, If in above cases of Virgo nativities, Jupiter is in
the 11th house and the 4th and 7th houses of the
horoscope are occupied by female planets the Moon, Venus
etc., then it becomes a dead certainty that the position of
Jupiter in any case would deny a son, as Jupiter has assumed
the role of a female planet still further by virtue of becoming
the dispositor of female planets. A retrograde Jupiter, if male
in behaviour is a great boon for acquisition of male progeny.
Reason is that all planets in retrogression are considered very
strong and as such they give good results, even if slightly
afflicted. We should not be afraid of the term Retrograde and
anticipate results in a sense of adverse expectation, thinking
that retrograde planets because of their motion, which is
opposite to the normal one, will give results opposed to their
normal good results. No, the retrograde planets give marked
results because of their relative vicinity to earth. These results
are good for the traits which the planets possess as
significators.

Rule 14
Separative Roles of Planets
When intestines are displaced from their normal
position, hernia is caused. When one is displaced from
his home and the country of his birth, due to
punishments exile is the name sometimes given to such
a displacement. When the foetus inside the womb of a
woman is displaced abortion results. If we know
astrological factors causing such displacements we are
helped in diagnosis of diseases. It is therefore, very
essential to mark the planets that cause displacement
or separation. If you read shloka 23 of chapter 16 of
Dispositors in Astrology 33
Jataka Parijata, you will notice that the Sun separates
one from the party whom he influences. Similarly a
reference to shloka 23rd of chapter 5 of Sarvartha
Chintamani will show you that the Sun separates one
from the party whom he influences. Similarly a
reference to shloka 23rd of chapter 5 of Sarvartha
Chintamani will show you that "separation" is also
a trait of Saturn. Rahu is, of course, a planet of
separation since it acts like Saturn vide dictum
Shanivat Rahu, We can thus list the Sun, Saturn and
Rahu as the planets that cause separtion from the
traits etc. of the houses and planets they influence.
Marked are the results when two or more of these
planets throw their separative influence on a factor
or factors for a particular person or trait. For example,
when the Sun and Saturn, the Sun and Rahu or Saturn
and Rahu or all the three influence the factors for
marriage viz., the 7th house, its lord and its
significator (Venus for males and Jupiter for females)
we can be sure that there will be separation from the
husband or wife. Similarly when these planets afflict
the residence i.e. the 4th house and its lord, they
separate one from his home and may lead him to
Sanyasa or exile or abode in a foreign land. It should
also be remembered that lords of the signs occupied
by the separative planets— the Sun, Saturn and Rahu,
also act as separative planets. Amongst houses the
12th house may be listed as separation causing. Thus
lord- of the 12th house acting in collaboration with
two or more of the separative planets, the Sun, Saturn
and Rahu will assist the cause of separation. The 12th
house is the house of expenditure which is also a kind
of separation of wealth.

Rule 15
Profession
The texts generally declare (See Brihat Jataka
chapter 10) that a man's profession should be
determined from the nature of planets located in the
10th house of his birth chart. In case there are no planets
in the 10th house the texts further suggest that
profession should be determined from the nature of lord
of navamsa sign in which lord of the 10th house is
placed. We have not found this rule satisfactory in actual
experience. It may be because the 10th house of a birth
chart relates to Karinas in the moral sense i.e. the good
and bad moral deeds, for the 10th house is related to
such karmas as is seen by shlokaNo. 5 etc. of chapter 15
of Jataka Parijata, which attributes actions of public
utility when this house is influenced by such
philanthropic planets as Jupiter and Mercury. In our
experience we have seen that planets influencing the
lagnas i.e. the Ascendants more accurately tell the nature
of profession one follows. This experience of ours is one
that finds its corroboration at many places in the
astrological texts. For example, Saravali says :
 ;fl:!l fc1•1Mil<fifc1c;Jat914!
RI 1/J,!l.T<{ 'I i;;i1 q dH I11.,1 I

If the lagna (Ascendant) is influenced by three

benefics, the native is free of sorrow, is affluent, wielding
political power. On the contrary, if the lagna is influenced by
three malefics — the native remains always immersed in
diseases, fears and sorrows — he is a glutton and is condemned
by others. Again Saravali 35/36 says -

If lord of navamsa of the lagna is located in benefic
vargas as (decanate etc.) and so also is the Moon, or if
the lagna is aspected by four planets excluding the Moon,
then the man becomes a king (wields much political power)
even if he is born in a very ordinary family. Simultaneous
mention of the Moon with the lagna
clearly shows that Saravali associates the lagna and Moon
with great wealth. That is perfectly true, as you will find
in practical that people who have their lord of the
Ascendant and Moon strong are invariably rich. In the
same context we may read the following shloka appearing on
page 188 of "DevaKeralam" or ChandraKalaNadi—an
astrological work published by the Madras Government.

i.e if birth is in the nadi amsa called Gad in the
Aquarius Ascendant and Saturn lord of the lagna is
located in the lOth house, native remains rich from
birth till death and never experiences poverty. T his
also clearly shows that accord ing to Deva Keralam, the
lagna also represents wealth. In the opinion of
“Chamatkara Chintamani" Mercury located in tire lagna
makes one to adopt accountancy as profession, thereby
linking lagna to means of livelihood. Shloka 12 of
chapter 22 in Saravali reads

i.e. if in a birth chart the Sun is located in any of the
signs of Venus and is aspected by the Moon, the man is
36 Dispositors in Astrology
fond of prostitutes, he supports many women and earns
livelihood by watery vocations. It is obvious from this
shloka of Saravali that there is absolutely no reference
for livelihood direct or indirect to the tenth house of the
birth chart, and also it is very clearly stated that the
profession is one related to watery substances or
vocations. This is possible only by taking the lagna as
the basis for determination of one's profession. In this
shloka the Sun, the lagna lord is inflluenced by two female
factors viz. the sign of Venus and aspect of the Moon.
Both are 'watery' planets too. Hence the conclusion in
regard to being attracted towards women and resorting
to 'watery' profession is justified on the basis of the Surya
lagna. Shloka 3 of chapter 6 of Jataka Parijata declares.

i.e. if the Moon and Sun occupy the sixth house and
are aspected by Saturn the native earns his livelihood
by lower professions. Here the Sun and Moon have been
treated as the lagnas, as they should be. Because of their
association and aspect with two bad and low factors
viz. the sixth house and Saturn, the livelihood has been
declared as by questionable means. We can quote many
more Shlokas to show that various standard texts have
virtually considered the nature of profession from the
lagna, whether it is in the form of the lagna proper, Surya
lagna or Chandra lagna. For want of space we will,
however, retract giving more quotations as the
quotations already given leave no doubt in our mind that
profession and its nature are intimatly linked to and should be
determined from various lagnas.

Textual Authority

(1) Practical illustrations are being furnished in these

pages in support of the most useful applications of
planets as dispositors are fully based on the authority
of standard astrological texts. Introduction to readers
of the functions of these dispositors, although belated,
is in any case not the innovation of the author of these
lines.
(2) The idea as to how a dispositor through its
weakness leads to weakness of traits of the house
belonging to planet occupying sign of the dispositor has
been given in shloka 35 of chapter 11 of the celebrated
work Jataka Parijata. The shloka is reproduced below :

i.e. in case lord of the sign occupied by lord of
the Ascendant is located in the 8th house of horoscope,
the native of horoscope becomes weak healthwise.
Similarly any other house would become weak, if lord
of the sign occupied by its lord is placed in a bad
house i.e. in any of the houses 6th, 8th or 12th of the
birth chart.
38 Dispositors in Astrology
(3) As an illustration of general principle enunciated
in para 2 ante, we may take up lord of the second house
viz. the Sun, in the case of Cancer nativity. If the Sun is
placed in the sign Scorpio, for instance, and lord of
Scorpio i.e, Mars is placed say in the 12th house in sign
Gemini, then prospects of the second house i.e. finance
etc. would be deemed to be reduced by such a bad
position of Mars—dispositor of the Sun. In case, the Sun,
as lord of the 2nd house was to occupy the 6th house,
then location of Jupiter lord of sign occupied by the Sun
say in, the 8th house, would harm again prospects of
the house of wealth of which Sun is the lord in this case.
Converse is, of course, also true. If Mars in first case
acting as dispositor of the Sun were to occupy the 10th
house, where it gets much strength it would have been
conducive for financial affairs denoted by the Sun.
In second case, if Jupiter—dispositor of the Sun were
to occupy sign Pisces, in the 9th house, where Jupiter
gets much strength, the strength of Jupiter would have been
conducive for financial affairs denoted by the Sun.
(4) The principle of dispositorship being discussed
is of universal applicability. It would be applicable to
all rest of the planets, with the exception, of course, of
shadowy planets Rahu and Ketu, for the reason that
these shadowy planets do not own any sign (there is
controversy in regard to signs they own), To illustrate
further, the Moon lord of the 4th house for Aries
Ascendant placed in Leo, would be harmful for
prospects of material comforts and conveyances etc.
denoted by the 4th house, in case here dispositor viz, the Sun
is located say, in the 8th house.
(5) Similarly if Mars, lord of the 3rd house in case of
an Aquarius nativity, is located in the eleventh house,
Dispositors in Astrology 39
but lord of the sign occupied by it, viz. Jupiter, occupies
the sixth house prospects of the 3rd house such as valour,
coborns, arms etc. would be considered to be harmed.
(6) In case Mercury, lord of the 2nd house, for a Leo
nativity, is located in the 5th house in Sagittarius and Jupiter,
lord of Sagittarius is debilitated in Capricorn in the sixth
house, prospects of the 2nd house viz. education, speech etc.
would be doubly harmed by such a location of Jupiter — the
dispositor of Mercury
(7) In case, Jupiter, lord of the 5th house in a Scorpio
nativity occupies the sign Taurus in the 7th house,
and Venus, lord of the sign occupied by Jupiter is in the
12th house, prospect of wealth etc. denoted by the 2nd
house would be taken to be harmed to some extent
by such a situation of the dispositor of Jupiter. The
phrase 'to some extent’ has been used by us deliberately,
in view of the fact that occupation of the 12th house by Venus
in a friendly or own sign, strengthens Venus and as such
Venus is considered there conducive to its own traits.

(8) Venus as lord of the 4th house in case of Cancer

nativity, if located in the 5th house in Scorpio, and Mars,
lord of Scorpio, is located in the sixth house. Mars's sixth
house position would be taken as harmful for the
prospects of the 4th house (owned by Venus) such as
property and conveyance.
(9) Lastly, in case of an Aries nativity, if Mars occupies
sign Capricorn in the tenth house and if Saturn, lord
of sign occupied by Mars is located in Libra in the
7th house. Saturn will give good results of Mars —
the Yogakaraka, even though Saturn is a bad planet for
Aries nativity.
40 Dispositors in Astrology
(10) We have given location of planets in some of
the houses of a horoscope and then taken lords of the
signs occupied by the planets, in turn located in 'Trik' houses
to explain the meaning of shloka from celebrated work Jataka
Parijata. It is, however, not the intention that prospects of the
house which planet owns will suffer only when its dispositor is
located in any of the 'Trik' bhava or house. The Term
'Dusthana' should be given wider and more comprehensive
meaning, so as to cover all places where the dispositor is ill
placed or suffers. For example, in case of Cancer nativity, if
the Sun lord of the 2nd house is located in Scorpio in the 5th
house but if Mars, lord of Scorpio is located in Libra, even
then prospects of the house of wealth would be deemed to
suffer though feebly as Libra is the sign of debilitation for the
Sun.

(11) Similarly, suppose, if the Moon, lord of the 12th

house in case of Leo nativity, is located in Aries in the
9th house but Mars, lord of Aries is located in the sign
Aquarius in the 7th house, even then the prospects of
Mars being in its inimical sign Aquarius will suffer,
which suffering would be taken as suffering of the Moon
through its dispositor.
(12) Reverse would also be true; that is to say if the
dispositor of any planet gets strengthened by virtue of
its house, sign etc. the planet of which it is the dispositor
ipso facto gets strengthened with the result that the
original house under consideration gets benefitted and
strengthened. For example, if the Sun as lord of the 2nd
house occupies its sign of debilitation viz. Libra in the 4th
house, in a Cancer nativity, then the location of Venus—the
dispositor of Sun in Aries would work to strengthen the Sun.

(13) In regard to the beneficial role of a dispositor

we may refer to the following shloka 156 of chapter 7 of
Jataka Parijata.

ie. if lord of the sign occupied by lord of the
Ascendant or if lord of the navamsa sign of lord of the
Ascendant is located in kendra or a kona, or in its sign of
exaltation or own sign then the most beneficial yoga (for
wealth, honour and longevity) called Parijata yoga is
constitued. The excellence of Parijata yoga obviously lies
in the strength of lord of the lagna acquired due to strong
position of its dispositor in a kendra etc. In this context it
should be remembered that the navamsa lord of a planet in
a sign acts as the planet itself, so that strong position of the
lord of navamsa occupied by any planet would mean strong
position of the planet itself. For working out the navamsa
lord, readers may see shloka I of chapter I.
(14) It may be added in this context, that though for
the purposes of Parijatayoga it may strictly be necessary
for planet's dispositor or navamsa lord to be strong
according to above specified conditions viz. by location
in a kendra, in a kona, in exaltation or own sign. The
main intention behind the yoga is that it should be
strong —may be by being under benefic aspect, in a
friendly sign, by possessing directional strength or
through retrogression etc.
(15) T he author of Phaladeepika' has also
approved the above theory — he says :

42 Dispositors in Astrology
ie. if lord of the sign, occupied by dispositor of lord
of the lagna is in his sign of exaltation or in his own sign
in a kendra or trikona, the said position of planets creates
"Kahala yoga”. When only lord of the sign occupied by
lord of the Ascendant is considered, then the yoga
constituted goes by the name of 'Parvata'. Both, the yogas
confer wealth, power and prosperity.
(16) From the discussion so far carried out in regard
to dispositors, we have seen that a planet acts for another
planet, if the latter is placed in the sign of former i.e, the Sun
acting as Jupiter, if Jupiter is placed in sign of the Sun or
Saturn acting as Mars, if Mars is located in sign of Saturn.
Thus, the results are according to lordship of the planet for
whom the dispositor works. Since dispositor can be placed in
strength or in weakness, so are the results of depositing planet
beneficial or baneful depending on the situation involved.

(17-18) It is also clear that in case of planets, other

than the Sun and Moon, who own two signs, the good
or harm will go to each of the two signs of original planet
concerned, that is to affairs represented by the houses
in which those signs fall. For example, in a Cancer
nativity, if Mars is located in Gemini in the 12th house
and its dispositor Mercury, if located in the first house
under the aspect of benefic Jupiter, then strong position of
Mercury will be conducive for both the signs of Mars i.e. for
the affairs denoted by the houses identical to its two signs. In
other words, in the example given, Mars as a yogakaraka for
Cancer Ascendant will be strengthened and would bring
wealth and power during the main and sub-periods of Mercury
—its dispositor. Readers must have noticed how bad
placement of Mars in the 12th house has been changed, as if it
were in nice placement, simply by the nice placement of the
Dispositors in Astrology 43
dispositor of Mars. For the benefit of readers we give
below the dispositors for the various Ascendants and
their functions in brief,
(19) Aries : The lord of the sign occupied by any of
the planets Mars, the Moon, the Sun, Jupiter or Saturn,
if strong, will in its main and sub-periods, denote
acquisition of wealth etc. The lord of the sign occupied
by any of Venus or Mercury will give adverse results in
regard to health and wealth.
(20) Taurus: The lord of sign occupied by any of the
planets Mercury, the Moon (provided it is more than 72
degrees away from the Sun and is thus a benefic planet),
the Sun, Mars, Saturn or Jupiter is conducive to wealth
etc, in its main and sub-ruling periods provided it is
strong by house etc. position. The lord of the sign
occupied by any of Venus, or the weak Moon will, in its
main and sub-ruling periods give bad results
normally.
(21) Gemini: The lord of the sign occupied by any
of the planets Mercury, the Moon (strong in Paksha
strength), the Sun, Mars or Venus will be conducive to
wealth etc. in its main and sub-ruling periods, while
the lord of the sign occupied by the malefic Moon will
give adverse results. Saturn for Gemini native is good but only
slightly, as one of its sign falls in the 8th house. Hence its
dispositor has to be in quite a strong position in order to give
good results.
(22) Cancer: The lord of the sign occupied by any of
the planets the Moon strong in Paksha strength, Mars,
or Venus will, in their Dasa and Bhukti confer wealth
and. power. The lord of the sign occupied by any of
Saturn or Rahu, would give adverse results in its main
and sub-ruling periods.
44 Dispositors in Astrology
(23) Leo : The lord of the sign occupied by any of
the planets Sun, Mercury, Mars, the Moon strong in
the Paksha strength—(See rule 4 in chapter I) or Jupiter
gives good results in the financial sphere in its main
and sub-ruling periods. The lord of the sign occupied
by any of Venus, Saturn, Rahu or the Moon weak in
Paksha strength, gives adverse results in matters of
finance etc.
(24) Virgo : The lord of the sign occupied by any of
the planets Mercury, Venus, the Sun or Moon strong in
her Paksha strength gives favourable results in the
domain of finances. The lord of the sign occupied by
any of the Moon weak in Paksha strength or Mars give
bad results in financial affairs. Jupiter acquires
Kendradhipatya Dosha defect by owning two kendras the
7th and 10th from the Ascendant and if ill placed, his
dispositor in its main and sub-ruling periods will give
bad results in regard to finances and Maraka effects.
(25) Libra : The lord of the sign occupied by any of
the planet Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, the Sun or
Mercury will give good results financially, while the lord
of the sign occuped by the Moon weak in Paksha strength
would give adverse results in its main and sub-periods.
Overwhelming majority of the planets including the
malefic Saturn give good results for Libra Ascendant.
It is perhaps for this reason that the Ascendant Libra is
held to be the best of all Ascendants. The dispositors of
these planets by their strong position would, therefore,
ensure wealth and power.
(26) Scorpio : The lord of the sign occupied by any
of the planets Mars, Jupiter, Mercury, the Sun or Moon
strong in Paksha strength, will give good results in regard
to prosperity in its main and sub-periods. The lord of
Dispositors in Astrology 45
the sign occupied by any of Saturn, Venus or the Moon
weak in Paksha strength would give adverse results in
regard to finances etc,
(27) Sagittarius : The lord of the sign occupied by
any of the planets Jupiter, Mars, Venus, the Sun or the
Moon strong in Paksha strength would be conducive to
wealth in its main and sub-ruling periods, The lord of
the sign occupied by any of Saturn or the Moon weak
in Paksha strength will bring about troubles in financial
and other matters. Mercury by virtue of owning kendra
other than the Ascendant and being ill-placed can give
bad results in regard to health i.e., Maraka effects, if its
dispositor is weak and afflicted.
(28) Capricorn : The lord of the sign occupied by
any of the planets Saturn, Mars, Mercury, Venus, the
Moon strong in Paksha strength and the strong Sun
would be conducive for wealth etc, during its main or
sub-ruling period. The lord of the sign occupied by any
of Jupiter or the Moon weak in Paksha strength would
be detrimental in its main and sub-periods in regard to
financial matters.
(29) Aquarius: The lord of the sign occupied by any
of the planets Saturn, Venus, Jupiter or the Moon strong
in Paksha strength would be conducive for financial
matters in its main and sub-ruling periods. The lord of
the sign occupied by any of Mars, Mercury or the Moon
weak in Paksha strength would give adverse results in
financial matters,
(30) Pisces: The lord of the sign occupied by any of
the planets Jupiter, Mars, the Moon strong in Paksha
strength, the Sun or Saturn would prove good in its main
and sub-ruling periods in financial matters. The lord of
sign occupied by any of Venus, the Moon weak in Paksha
46 Dispositors In Astrology
strength or an ill placed Mercury would prove
detrimental for financial matters.
(31) Above was the picture of dispositiors of planets for
various Ascendants. This picture should be taken in regard to
the financial affairs and to other affairs where mentioned.

(33) The results of dispositors are to be carefully judged.

These results would be related to the field of which the main
planet or the planets situated together are significators. For
example, in a Virgo nativity, if Rahu is placed in the 6th house,
then Saturn assumes role of dispositor of Rahu definitely
causing disease. Why ? Because in such a case Saturn in the
first instance, is the significator of disease. Secondly, it is lord
of the house of disease, i.e., the 6th, where its Moola Trikona
sign falls, and for that reason, it is all the more a factor for
disease. Lastly, being the dispositor of Rahu— another planet
of disease (Shani vat Rahu), Saturn indeed is deadly a
representative of disease, ready to cause disease to the
limb represented by sign it is located in or it aspects.
Thus when a factor like Saturn or any other planet
assumes representative role of disease it causes trouble
to the limb it afflicts.

(33) In para 32 ante we have taken Saturn lord of the

6th house and dispositor of Rahu as a great factor, in
causing disease. It is, no doubt, so. We can, at the same
time, take such a Saturn as a factor of great dearth or
scantiness for the reason that all the three factors involved
represent dearth and scantiness. The 6th house — one of
the Trik houses, is a house of scarcity. Saturn is the very
significator of scarcity and poverty, and so also is Rahu,
who always acts like Saturn, Thus such a Saturn, placed
in the. second house i.e. Libra, even though in exaltation
Dispositors fn Astrology 47
would be harmful to speech and may bring about some
vocal defect particularly when Saturn afflicts Mercury—
the significator of speech as well,
(34) As stated in para 32 ante, the role of dispositor
is the role for planet of whom it is the dispositor. Its role
is only one of modification in the desirable or
undesirable direction. Take the case of Ketu and Mars
placed together in the 6th house in a Sagittarius nativity.
If their dispositor i.e. Venus is located in Capricorn, in
the second house, this would be a situation of bad yoga,
where the partner in life (husband or wife) as the case
may be would have minimum longevity and may expire
within months, if not within days of marriage. The
reason for such dire results is the four fold influence of
Mars on the house of longevity of the partner i.e. the
second house, which is 8 th (longevity) from 7th (the
partner). You may say, four fold, how ? In order to
understand it please study first of all rule number 5
relating to aspects of planets. If you have done that, you
will at once understand that Ketu located with Mars
will throw its cruel 9th aspect on the second house and
in doing so it will carry to the second house the influence
of Mars as well. Thus we see that there is deadly
influence of Mars and Ketu on the second house. Since
Ketu works like Mars, (Kuja vat Ketu) we can say that
the second house of the horoscope is afflicted by double
Mars influence. Now come to the meaning of location
of Venus in the second house. Prima facie you are likely
to run away with the notion that Venus a natural benefic
planet, in a friendly sign in the second house is
conducive for the prospects of that house, This would
prove totally wrong when you realise the fact that Venus
is the dispositor of Mars and Ketu and as such Venus is
afflicted by Mars and Ketu. Venus afflicted means the
48 Dispositors In Astrology
significator of wife afflicted. Any way when you see that
by its location in the 2nd house Venus is carrying to that house
the combined cruel effect of Mars and Ketu. You realise mat
longevity of the partner suffers terribly because the second
house is the house of longevity of partner. Thus the second
house is being afflicted by another pair of Mars in the shape of
Venus. Unless and until you are quite familiar with the manner
in which the dispositors work, you are likely to under estimate
the gravity of situation in regard to the longevity of wife in this
case,

(35) A study of Neecha Bhanga Yoga also leads one to

the conclusion that dispositors of planets do act for and
as those planets that are deposited in their signs. We
also learn therefrom that by being in strength the
dispositors of planets impart strength to planets for
whom they are acting as the dispositors. In shloka
number 26 of chapter 7 of astrological classic Phala
Deepika we read as under:
.a...n,,,iifl ;jj:qf.pit 'II&: .imJ,.

In the case of a planet in debilitation, if lord of the
sign occupied by it and lord of the sign of its exaltation
is in kendra from the Ascendant or the Moon, the native
becomes king who rules the world. Now our main
purpose in quoting this shloka is not to offer comments
in regard to claims of this Yoga i.e. whether or not these
are exaggerated. Our limited purpose is to show that in
removing the weakness and drawback of debilitation,
the strength of dispositor of debilitated planet is of
utmost importance, for it is as a result, inter alia, strength
Dispositors in Astrology 49
due to the kendra position of the said dispositor that the
debilitated planet is forced, as it were, to give the good
results, better perhaps than those which it could give if
located in its sign of exaltation.
(36) Another very interesting role of dispositor has been
mentioned by Mantreswara in shloka number 28 of chapter 7
of the same work,
<lff4,{IV/1 cl<ffi @"1\RiiUVftr; <I m: I
'l{lfo1q1<'1 <hJ@4'ii fif<l"&ffil {ifl!lliJ'iilil.. ftt 1liJ: :II
i.e. when a planet occupies its sign of debilitation
and is aspected by the lord of that sign, it makes one a
ruler. In this yoga if the planet in debilitation is in an
auspicious house, other than the 6th, 8th or 12th, there
is little doubt that the native becomes a foremost king.
Here the aspect of dispositor on its own house has done
the trick. It is the fundamental rule in Astrology that
planet aspecting its own sign is highly conducive for
the house in which that sign falls, As a result of the
application of the above principle, the house occupied
by the debilitated planet would be strengthened. Since
the strength is imparted by the dispositor it can be
inferred that the planet therein is in strength than in
debilitation. This is, however, a point that needs wider
recognition. But the fact remains that it is through the
dispositor that a debilitated planet has been sought to
give good results.
Chapter III
Dispositors And Life Events

In this chapter we propose to present to the readers

birth charts of well known and lesser known people, with
a view to illustrate the role of dispositors in causing death
or in assisting other planets in this work.
Shri Aurobindo Ghosh
(1) The famous saint of Pondichery and one time
a revolutionary devoted to the service of India was
born on 15-8-1872 at 5-17 A.M. L.M.T. lat. 22N.30 and
long : 88E 20. Balance of Ketu at birth under
Vimshottari Dasa system was years 2-3-15. His death

Dispositors in Astrology 51
herself not only the Chandra lagna but is lord of the
lagna also, Saturn is lord of the 7th and 8th houses.
Thus both the Moon and Saturn are connected with
life and death. Jupiter although exalted is 8th from
Sagittarius and as such harmful to the factors of
longevity more particularly when you see that it is
with Mars, who is not only a malefic in himself but
also for being lord of the sign occupied by Ketu. Then
Ketu also aspects Jupiter. Jupiter is, moreover near the
Sun and as such has lost its balance. Thus the dasa of
Jupiter as dispositor of longevity factors, is quite
appropriate for being a maraka. As regards Rahu, it
afflicts the main dasa lord because of being the sub
period lord vide rule 7 in chapter 2. The navamsa lord of
Rahu, Mercury is a maraka being in the 2nd house with the
Sun, The weakness of dispositor always indicates the
weakness of planet whose dispositor it is.

B. Surya Prakash
(2) Here is the horoscope of late Shri B. Surya
Prakash, son of Dr. B. V. Raman, Editor of The
Astrological Magazine, (Bangalore). He was born on

2-11-1935 at 5.40 a.m., at Bangalore. The balance of dasa

of Venus at birth is stated to be 8-4-29 years. There are
52 Dispositors in Astrology
two roles of dispositors that may be noted. Firstly, mark
the fact that Jupiter is lord of the two evil houses viz.
the 3rd and 6th and is dispositor for three malefic planets
viz. the Moon, Rahu and Mars. The Moon is here treated
as malefic planet because she is located within 72° of
the Sun, Mars and Rahu are, of course, natural malefics.
Jupiter, therefore, as the lord or rather the dispositor of
three malefic planets is throwing its malefic influence
of a deadly kind on the house of longevity (8th) and
thus shortening life span. The second role as a dispositor
is played by debilitated Venus, dispositor of the Sun the
natural significator of vitality i.e. longevity The Sun's
debilitation in another house of longevity viz. the first
shows short life for this promising young man,
particularly when you note the fact that Venus, the
dispositor of the Sun in turn is in debilitation and thus
instead of eradicating the debilitation of Sun, only
deteriorates it more and thereby indicating again short
life to the boy. One more factor responsible for the short life in
question is the 5th aspect of Ketu on the Ascendant. Since Ketu
is fully aspected by Mars and the malefic Moon, the aspect of
Ketu on the Ascendant means the aspect of as many as three
malefics, thereby again shortening the life. The boy had only
28 years of life.

Poet Rabindra Nath Tagore

(3) The death of Dr. Rabindra Nath Tagore—our
national poet, took place in the main as well as the sub
period of Jupiter. The point for consideration is as to
why death took place in Jupiter's periods when Jupiter
is the best of benefics and is located in exalted position in one
of very good house, the 5th (Trine). The poet was born on
6-5-1861 with the balance of Mercury as years 10-2-0, Let us
not run away from the fact that in actual
Dispositors In Astrology 53
experience we see many cases of death in the dasa of
lord Of the lagna. May we ask, why is it improper for

death to take place in the dasa of lord of the Ascendant,

when the Ascendant stands for both the body and its
longevity ? In fact the period should be considered to
be most appropriate for the purpose, provided, of
course, lord of the Ascendant is afflicted. In the present
case there is ample malefic influence on Jupiter, lord of
the lagna and Chandra lagna. Thus when you see Jupiter
as lord of the lagna and Chandra lagna becoming the
dispositor of Rahu and hemmed between Mars, Ketu and
Saturn, you will be able to understand the riddle of
death in the dasa and bhukti of lord of the lagna. The
readers should understand our limitations, as we are
concerned here only with dispositors.
Denial Of Children
(4) Denial of children at all means that all the factors
denoting progeny are afflicted in the horoscope of a
married person. The horoscope No. 5 is of a person, who does
not have children from marriage. The person was born on
2-6-1914 at 7-5 A.M. at Long : 72 E 4 and Lat: 22 N 4, Now
Jupiter is aspecting both the 5th house as well as its lord
Venus. This should prima facie, have given him children. As
you are right, but alas t Jupiter himself
54 Dispositors in Astrology
as lord of the 5th house from the Chandra lagna is suffering
by location in inimical sign, by the 7th aspect of Ketu, the 8th
aspect of malefic Mars and also by the

10th aspect of Saturn. How can a severely afflicted Jupiter,

significator of progeny confer progeny ? Moreover the
Ascendant lord Mercury and 5th lord Venus who is dispositor
of the Sun and Saturn are severely afflicted, being hemmed
between the malefics the Sun, Saturn and Mars and aspected
by Rahu. The main point, however, for which this horoscope
has been brought to the notice of readers is the nature of aspect
of Mars on Jupiter. Now Mars in himself is bad enough due to
it the fact that it is also lord of two houses, each of which
represents evil viz. the 6th house and the one 6th to 6th i.e. the
11th. Then consider another factor viz. the Moon. The Moon
appears on the face of it to be fairly strong being sufficiently
away from the Sun (more than 72°). but then consider the fact
that as the dispositor of Mars, the Moon is as cruel to Jupiter
as Mars himself, Moreover the Moon is also conjunct Ketu.
When we know of such afflictions then there remains no
mystery as to why progeny was denied in this case. The
Moon's aspect on Jupiter is surely not a benefic one. This fact
becomes clear only when we consider the role of Moon as
Dispositors in Astrology 55
dispositor. Inability of Mercury and Venus to confer
progeny has already been discussed.
Death At 20th Year
(5) The native of horoscope No. 6 is stated to have
died at the age of 20. Why ? Mars lord of the lagna is
exalted in a Kendra. Why then short life ? Saturn is said

to prolong longevity by its location in the 8th house —

the house of longevity. Why, then the longevity only of
20 years ? Firstly, why short life when lord of the lagna
is exalted in the best of kendra house viz, the 10th. The
answer is that it is precisely for the same reason that the native
got short life, Mars by its exaltation is most powerful no doubt.
But its full aspect on the Ascendant does not spare the
Ascendant (see rule 11 in chapter 1). Again Rahu in a kendra
to the Ascendant and still more Mars is influencing the lagna
like Saturn since, Mars is the dispositor of Saturn. Saturn in
the 8th housein this horoscope is not beneficial to that house as
it is the dispositor of Mars and is acting as Mars, Mars in the
8th house does not increase longevity. With Rahu and Mars
already in the 8th house in the form of Saturn, the 5th aspect of
Ketu deteriorate the longevity still further. Thus the only good
influence is the aspect of Jupiter on Mars, the lord of lagna.
The aspect of Moon on Mars is
56 Dispositors in Astrology
of doubtful utility as the Moon herself is influenced by
three first rate malefics viz. Mars, Rahu and Saturn
(through aspect of Saturn on Rahu, who is in turn
aspecting the Moon... see rule number 5 in chapter 1).
The .third life sustaining factor the Sun, though is not
the dispositor of any evil planet but is in an enemy sign
and hemmed between Mars, Rahu and evil aspect of Ketu
on the other side. Ketu itself is also evil as told above.
Hanged Herself After Killing Her 3 Children
(6) Astrology reflects the coming events only if one
knows its rules. Here is the case of a woman, who
hanged herself after killing her 3 children. At the first

glimpse of horoscope No. 7 there is ample evidence to

show that the death was due to violence. Firstly, Mars—
the violent planet afflicts the Ascendant (brain) by placement
and the house of longevity the 8th house by its 8th aspect.
Then the same Mars along with Ketu afflicts the Moon, lord of
the 8th house, Coming to the Chandra lagna we see that it is
afflicted by Mars and Ketu as already seen. In fact Mercury the
dispositor of Ketu is also affecting the Moon — one of the lagna
and lord of the 8th from the lagna proper. The lord of 8th from the
Moon i.e. Venus is afflicted by the 5th aspect of Ketu. This is in
regard to death by violence. Coming to the
Dispositors In Astrology 57
question of suicide, the matter is very simple. We know that
the 3rd house, the house of arms stands for one's self. T he lord
of 3rd Saturn, the dispositor of Sun is double representative of
the deliberate self. T hen if Saturn is the cause of death of
woman, her death becomes a case of suicide. Is Saturn the
cause of death here ? Yes, it is, because it is aspecting both the
lagna and the house of longevity — factors of longevity.
Hence it can easily be seen as a case of suicide (self undoing).
Saturn being dispositor of the Sun, its location in Libra should
be considered as the location of Sun in libra. Now Libra is in
the 8th from the Chandra lagna. Hence virtually debilitated
Sun in the 8th from the Moon be considered as causing death
by suicide. As regards the killing of three children before
suicide, see again the fact that Saturn the cause of death of
woman also aspects the 5th house from the Ascendant, its lord
Mars as well as the 5th house from the Chandra lagna. In any
case, the point to be seen is that by virtue of being dispositor
for the Sun (in the 3rd house where the Moola Trikona sign of
Saturn falls) Saturn acts as Sun and self and thus brings about
her death by suicide after deliberate killing of children.

Consumption of Poison
(7) The horoscope No. 8 is of a person who poisoned
himself in the das a and bhukti of Jupiter. In order to
investigate or prove suicide by poison we must prove,
first of all that the case is one of deliberate death
committed to one's own self. And secondly, the mode
of death shows death by 'poisoning'. Firstly, suicide,
Jupiter in the 8th house....the house showing the mode
of death will answer our questions. We notice that
Jupiter is the dispositor of the Sun—the self; of Saturn,
58 Dispositors in Astrology
again the self, for being lord of the Chandra lagna and
of Mars, lord of 11 th house from the Chandra lagna—

all standing for 'self. Hence Jupiter as self in the house

of death indicates death by one's own self i.e. suicide.
What about death by self poisoning ? Well, let us first
decide astrologically* as to what are the factors that
stand for 'Poison'. These are Mars, Saturn and Rahu,
particularly when all the three of them combine in their
action. Now let us see how then Jupiter functioning as
dispositor comes to our help. Jupiter is lord of the signs
occupied by Saturn and Mars and for that reason
represents poison. The third factor i.e, Rahu also has its
influence on the house of death i.e., the 8th house by its 5th
aspect on that house. Thus the combined influence of Saturn,
Rahu and Mars on the 8th house (the house that denotes the
mode of death) indicates death by poison, It is also very
significant to note that Jupiter, denoting poisoning, is located
in the second house (mouth) from the Moon and is aspecting

of Jataka Parijata.

the second house from the lagna (again mouth).
It must not be forgotten that the Moon represents herself
'eating' and is located along with Venus lord of the
sign occupied by Rahu (poison) and is hemmed
between Mars (poison) and Jupiter, lord of the sign
occupied by Mars (again poison). Saturn is itself lord of
the sign occupied by the Moon. Thus, consumption of
poison deliberately by self is established. It has been
possible to examine the horoscope correctly by taking
Jupiter as the dispositor of factors representing poison.
Hence the value of dispositors in Astrology stands
vindicated.

Death By Fall From Horse

(8) How a dispositor leads us to truth is illustrated
by the horoscope No. 9 of a girl who died by falling
while riding a horse. Two things have to be satisfactorily

explained under the rules of Astrology in this

connection. Firstly, that it is a case of death by injury
and secondly, that it is a case of horse being the cause of
death. Let us take up first the question of death by injury.
The Ascendant representing the body is afflicted by
injury causing Ketu, who aspects by 9th aspect, lord of
the Ascendant i.e., Jupiter, Jupiter being lord of the 8th
60 Dispositors in Astrology
from Chandra lagna, we see that the 8th house from
Chandra lagna is also afflicted by injury causing planet.
The association of Venus with the Moon being the
association of the dispositor of Mars is again an injury
factor harming the Chandra lagna. We thus, see that the
lagna, the Chandra lagna, the 8th house from these lagnas
and also the lords of these houses all are afflicted, either
directly by Ketu or Mars; indirectly through the
dispositors of these planets of injury. Death by injury is
thus astrologically maintained. Now coming to the question of
mode of death, we have to examine the 8th house of the
horoscope. The 8th house is occupied by the Sun and Mars,
The Sun being lord of the sign occupied by the Moon, may be
treated as a lagna factor
which is an afflicted one. Thus Mars is the main factor
that would show us the mode of death. Mars being the
dispositor of Jupiter and Mercury indicates that Jupiter
and Mercury could be the factors that denote the mode
of death. Now Jupiter and Mercury both are classified
in Astrology as Jeevas' i.e. living beings distinct from
the dead matter. Hence we may safely assume that some
Jeeva is responsible for the death of girl. What could that
jeeva be ? By our study of Astrology we know from it
that Saturn can be treated as an animal being low in the
grading of beings, When Jupiter the Jeeva himself
becomes the dispositor of Saturn, it is easy to guess that
the animal in Saturn comes out to be a horse, for the
very pictorial representation of the sign Sagittarius
shows it having the body of a horse. Thus Jupiter, who
by himself represents horse as dispositor of Saturn is horse
made so by the "conforming" and jeeva nature of Mercury who
associates with Jupiter. In this connection the attention of
readers is sought to
Dispositors in Astrology 61

shloka number 76, chapter 56, where Maharshi

Parasara says:

Saturn in the sixth house denotes loss of animals like

cows and buffaloes. Hence Jupiter and Mercury together
is a horse and their dispositor has also to be so. In the
8th house the dispositor of horse would obviously
denote involvement of horse in death. Fall is there
because of the 'separative' influence of Saturn and the
Sun sandwitching Jupiter (See rule 14 of chapter 1).

How Saturn Becomes Horse (contd.)

(9) We have slated in para 8 ante that Jupiter as the
dispositor of Saturn i.e., when it is lord of the sign

occupied by Saturn, becomes a horse. Our conclusion

to that effect is corroborated by another horoscope No. 10 of
the native born on 25-8-1931. It is stated about the native that
he earned a lot by horse races. As stated in rule 15 of chapter
1, the means of livelihood are to be judged by the nature of
influences on the lagnas, In this case both the lagna and its
lord and in fact the Chandra lagna too are influenced by
Jupiter. Hence it is certain, the livelihood will relate to Jupiter,
Now Jupiter is lord
62 Dispositors in Astrology
of the sign in the 6th house occupied by Saturn. Students
of Astrology know (See B.P.HS. 56-14) that both the
sixth house and planet Saturn stand for animals. Hence
Saturn, modified as it were, by its dispositor Jupiter
turned into a horse and by its influence on the lagna
factors brought income from horses. The horses were
racing horses. This fact is, perhaps, established by the
fact that Jupiter occupies a ‘Chara’ i.e., a moveable sign
and is also in abnormal motion being very near to the
Sun and therefore, under great pull of the Sun. Thus
the horses that are the source of income in this case are
not ordinary horses but horses in great motion i.e, those
used in horse racing.

Death In The Period Of Benefic

(10) The horoscope No. 11 is of a person whose father
died in the main and sub-ruling period of Jupiter. You

will perhaps wonder death of father taking place in the

ruling period of the best of benefic. Is the horoscope
correct, you may ask in confusion ? Yes, the horoscope
is correct. Only you have to dive a little deeper and study
the role of Jupiter as a dispositor, Jupiter in this
horoscope functions on behalf of and as four malefic
planets. It is therefore, obvious that Jupiter acting as a
Dispositors in Astrology 63
malefic harms the life prospects of father by aspecting
both, the Sun.... the significator of father and Mercury,
lord of the 8th house of father i.e. the house 8th from
the 9th.

Loss Of Husband Within Eight Days Of Marriage

(11) The following horoscope No. 12 belongs to a
lady who lost her husband within eight days of her

marriage. We have explained in rule 5 of chapter 1 that

the nodes throw their influence on the 5th, 7th and 9th
house from the house which they occupy, and in doing
so they carry to that house the malefic influence of planet
or planets that may be influencing these nodes. Under
this rule, Ketu who is placed in the 6th house with Mars
will throw its 9th aspect on the 2nd house of the
horoscope and carry to that house the malefic influence
of Mars with whom it is situated. Thus the second house
of the horoscope is afflicted by the cruel effects of Ketu
and Mars. Now Venus is the dispositor of Mars and Ketu
i.e. the lord of the sign occupied by these planets and as
such is acting as Mars and Ketu. The location of Venus
in the second house, therefore, means the location of
Mars and Ketu in that house. One thus observes that
the 2nd house of the horoscope is afflicted twice by Ketu
64 Dispositors in Astrology
and an equal number of times by Mars. This is
equivalent to affliction by Mars as much as four times
as Ketu acts like Mars (Kuja Vata Ketu). Since the 2nd house
of the horoscope is 8th from the 7th, it is longevity house of
the partner, i.e., the husband in this case. Such a heavy
affliction to the house of longevity of the husband by the killer
—Mars led to his death very soon after marriage. In this
horoscope Jupiter being the significator of husband has also to
be examined. On examining Jupiter we see that it is under the
5th aspect of Rahu who is throwing his own malefic influence
on "Jupiter, also afflicts Jupiter through the aspectual influence
of Mars. The crucial point that we stress for in this horoscope
is how Venus as the dispositor of two cruel planets... Mars and
Ketu has acted as these malefic killers and thereby intensified
extremely the already existing killing effects on the house of
longevity of husband. One not familiar with the role of Venus
as a dispositor would be in a fuss in this case thinking that a
natural benefic and friend of lord of the lagna is conducive to
the house where it is located in a friendly sign.

Short Life to Mother

(12) Mother of the person of horoscope No. 13 died when
he was only ten months old. In this nativity Sagittarius rises as
the Ascendant, we notice that Jupiter is also lord of the 4th
house (mother), the Moon is significator of the 4th house
(mother) and Venus is lord of the house of longevity of mother
(8th from 4th). Thus all the three planets represent longevity of
mother. Mercury the dispositor of these three planets thus
represents longevity of mother. Now Mercury has double
malefic influence on either side of it. On one side
Dispositors in Astrology 65
of it there is Mars and 5th aspect of Ketu. On the other
side are located two malefics,,, the Sun and Saturn. In
fact this house is also aspected i.e. influenced by Rahu

by its 9th aspect. Being thus under double malefic

influence and also being lord of the sign occupied by
Mars, Mercury is afflicted by Mars and is suffering on
that account too. Another important point that makes Mercury
give adverse results is his adverse location from his own signs.
It is located 3rd from Gemini, and 12th from Virgo. Hence
Mercury —the dispositor of the factors of longevity of mother
is very weak and afflicted. You already know perhaps that
Mercury acts instantly due to its fast motion, whatever be the
nature of results good or bad. In this case the result is of course
bad due to its afflictions and as such Mercury brought about
demise of mother within months of birth of the native.
Considering from the Chandra lagna, the 4th house from the
Moon representing mother is occupied by Mars and is aspected
by both Saturn and Ketu. Mercury representing mother as the
dispositor of Mars, is also heavily afflicted here. Thus
Mercury., .the quick moving planet, under heavy malefic
influences brought about quick results in the adverse direction.

Death In Dasa Of Moon Having Paksha Strength
(13) Shri Kasturi Srinivasan, horoscope No. 14 was
born on 7-8-1887 and died in 1959 in the main dasa of

Moon and sub-period of "Rahu. A sincere student has

raised doubt in regard to appropriateness of death in
dasa of Moon. He says that for Scorpio Ascendant the
Moon is said to be auspicious, more over she is placed
in a good house viz, the 5th, Why then death occured in
the dasa of Moon? T his doubt or question would not
have arisen had the student noticed that the Moon is
here as lord of the house occupied by as many as four
planets, viz. the Sun, Saturn, Rahu and Mercury, Mercury
has been a malefic for being in the company of three
malefics. T he Moon thus must be considered as afflicted
having acquired such a lordship. T he sub period of Rahu
afflicts the Moon severely because Rahu throws on the
Moon its own influence as well as the influence of
malefic planets it is associated with. T his student seems
to be unaware of aspects of the nodes, and how these
aspects work. In any case the Moon here is the dispositor
of four malefic planets and is influenced by them
through the aspect of Rahu. Hence the dasa of Moon and
sub period of Rahu are quite appropriate astrologically
for the demise. We have often made it clear that in
matter of bringing about death the dasa of lord of the lagna or
Dispositors in Astrology 67
that of Chandra lagna is quite appropriate, if afflicted,
for the simple reason that these planets represent the
body and also the span of life.

Death Of Most Of Children born

(14) Horoscope No. 15 is of a person for whom four of the
issues out of total five were lost or died. The native was born
on 6-6-1901 at 1.30 P.M. at Lat: 11N06 and Long : 79E44. A
strong Moon away from the Sun

located in the 5th house gives many daughters. Then retrograde

Saturn, lord of the house of progeny situated with a strong and
retrograde Jupiter gives many issues. But what is relevant to
our study is the fact that the aspect of Venus on Saturn and
Jupiter kills many of them. The reason for loss of issues lies in
the fact that Venus being the dispositor of malefic planets the
Sun and Rahu is acting as a malefic planet and harming the life
prospects of progeny represented by Saturn and Jupiter as the
lord and significator of the 5th house. Yet another factor
causing death of progeny is affliction of the 12th house of the
horoscope, which is the house of longevity of progeny, being
tire 8th. from the 5th house — the house of progeny.

Did Netaji Die In Air Crash ?
(15) Doubts have been expressed in some quarters
as to whether the death of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose

actually took place in an aeroplane crash. The horoscope No.

16 is of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The question is clearly
one that concerns mode of death.
• The mode of death is determined by the nature of
influences exerted on the 1st and 8th houses and their
lords. In Netaji's horoscope Saturn mainly indicates the
mode of death, by virtue of its dominant influence on
the 8th house by location. Mars too is, no doubt,
aspecting the 8th house and is thus a factor, But since
Mars is dispositor of Saturn its injurious influence is
working through Saturn. Now Saturn is, in turn is the
dispositor of four planets i.e. the Sun, Rahu and Mercury
placed in the 1.0th and Venus placed in the 11th house. Now
we all know astrologically that the houses 1st, 5th and 9th
stand for the element Fire. Houses 2nd, 6th and 10th for Earth;
3rd, 7th and 11th for Air, and the houses 4th, 8th and 12th
stand for Water. The 8th house— the house that shows the
mode of death is influenced exclusively or predominantly by
lords of the 3rd, 7th and 11 th houses, the death would be
taken to have been
Dispositors in Astrology 69

caused in air. In this birth chart Saturn located in the

8th house is not merely airy Saturn but lord of the airy
house —11th also. Saturn acts for Venus also since it is
dispositor of Venus. Then Saturn as dispositor of the
planets the Sun, Rahu and Mercury is obviously the
dispositor of airy Mercury as well. We thus see that the
house of death is influenced by all the three planets
owning the airy houses (3rd, 7th and 11th). It would
therefore, be appropriate and logical astrologically that
the death of Netaji involved the element air and the
death was by aeroplane crash. Well, Saturn is lord of
two houses, one of which is zenith and the other near
zenith. Then we must remember that the Sun, Saturn
and Rahu are planets of separation, Rahu and Saturn by
their influence on the tenth house i.e. sky indicate the
fact that they are causing separation in the sky, which is
equivalent to fall from height. But you may say fall from
height is not necessarily a fall of aeroplane. No, but to
clinch the issue, the lordship of Saturn over the 11th
house containing Venus, makes Venus a high class
valuable conveyance, leaving little doubt in our minds
that the death was in fact by fall of an aeroplane.

Death By Gun Shot Wound

(16) We have seen that the mode of death is
determined by the nature of influences falling on the 1st and
8th houses and/or their lords. Bearing this principle in mind, we
will study the horoscope No. 17. Someone may put the question
as to how we will determine the mode of death in cases where
lords of the 8th and 1st houses are located together in the same
sign. In such, cases the influence on both of them will
determine the mode of death. The case under consideration is
such
70 Dispositors in Astrology
one. 'Here lord of the 1st house Sun and lord of the 8th
house Jupiter are located together in Scorpio in the 4th

house and both are aspected by Saturn by its 10th house

aspect. So far so good, Saturn will tell us the mode of
death. Now what is it ? You may think it is one of the
diseases associated with Saturn, such as paralysis,
arthritis, nervous break down etc, No, your assumption
is totally wrong. Why, because you have totally ignored
the fact that Saturn is the dispositor of Mars and must
act somehow as Mars. Now Mars can cause death by
injury, fire, poison etc, but not by paralysis etc. Hence
we have to choose the mode of death as injury, fire etc.
Well, injury in any case will be there as Saturn is causing
death as lord of the 6th house who denotes injury in
common with Mars, But Mars has his Moola Trikona sign
on the 9th house — a house fiery in nature. And then
Mars is the lord of sign occupied by the Sun — a fiery
planet, lord of a fiery 1st house as well as a fiery sign
Leo. Hence the death will occur due to injury caused by
fire. Since Mars has too much fires in him and Saturn,
lord of the sign occupied by Mars is fully aspected by
the fiery planet Ketu. The fire was in a concentrated form
in a bullet. This is the horoscope of a lady who died of
gun shot wound.

Dasa And Bhukti At Death
(17) The birth chart No ; 18 is of Narsimha Bharati,
one of the Shankaracharyas. He was born on 11
-3-1.858

at 9 P.M. LMT, Lat: 13 N 00 Longitude 78E50. He died

in the main dasa of Saturn and sub-period of Ketu. It
would be observed that both the main and sub-period
lords are aspecting Jupiter placed in the 7th house;
Saturn aspecting by its 10th aspect and Ketu
by 9th. Now Jupiter is the dispositor of the Sun and
Venus and is representing them. In other words Ketu
and "Saturn are afflicting the Sun and Venus. Now the
Sun is lord of the 8th house from Chandra lagna and Venus is
lord of the 8th from the lagna proper. Thus the afflictions of
dispositors of houses of death led to the demise of Swami in
appropriate dasa and bhukti.

Short Life To Wife Of Gaekwar

(18) Here under is horoscope No. 19 of Sayaji Rao III,
Gaekwar of Baroda. The wife of this ruler lived only for
about 6 years after marriage, Let us try to find out the
cause of early demise of his wife. The main reason for
early demise was affliction of lord of the house of
longevity of wife i.e., Saturn, as also of the house itself.
You are aware of the fact that the node Ketu like Rahu
72 Dispositors in Astrology
has aspect over the houses etc. placed 5th, 7th or 9th
from it. In the present case Ketu throws its 9th aspect on

the 2nd house—the house of longevity of wife, and in

doing so also conveys to that house the killing effects of
Mars too with whom it is associated (See rule 5 of
chapter I). Again mark the fact that same Ketu is throwing its
5th aspect on Saturn lord of the house of longevity of wife.
This is not all. The aspect of Venus on Saturn —lord of the
house of longevity of wife is as deadly as that of Ketu, for the
reason that Venus, even though a natural benefic, is here
working as the dispositor for Ketu and Mars the two first rate
killers. Venus as the significator of wife, even though in its
sign of exaltation is afflicted by the 7th aspect of Saturn, who
also acts as dispositor for the malefic Sun. Venus has on it the
full 5th aspect of Rahu and the influence of Mars too is thrown
on that account. All these factors contributed to early death of
first wife of Gaekwar.

Short Life To Wife Of Pandit Nehru

(19) Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru's horoscope No : 20 has
the Moon in dignity in the Ascendant and very strong
in Paksha strength, because she is quite far away from
Dispositors In Astrology 73
the Sun. Thus a strong benefic aspects the 7th house of
the horoscope and seems to promise long life to his wife.
Similarly Saturn lord of the 7th house representing wife

is fully aspected by Jupiter. The significator of wife viz.

Venus is in its own sign...Libra in a Kendra with full
directional strength and with its friend Mercury, This is
another combination for long life to wife. But do you
think, the span of married life of about 19 years that
Pandit Nehru had, is adequate enough to justify the
good results as discussed above? No, the span of 19 years of
married life is much less than is commensurate with the aspect
of strong Moon on the 7th house, along with strong Saturn.
What then is the detracting factor? The detracting factors are,
firstly Venus, who is hemmed in between malefics, Mars and
the Sun, Secondly Venus is aspected by Rahu a malefic.
Thirdly Venus is aspected by another malefic Saturn. Fourthly
the association of Venus with Mercury is really the association
of malefics Rahu and Mars, for Mercury is acting as dispositor
of Rahu and Mars. Taking into account the detracting factors
we arrive at clear astrological picture that corresponds to or
confirms the facts.

Marie Antoinette guillotined
(20) Marie Antoinette ~ a queen, died by being
guillotined. Her horoscope No : 21 illustrates how the
dispositors act, many a time benefics turn malefics.

Her death by violence is illustrated or indicated by

the presence of the most violent planet Mars, in the
Ascendant, who becomes doubly violent by virtue of
the fact that it is also lord of the two houses of violence
viz. the 6th and 11th. The latter house is violent because
it is 6th to 6th according to the principle of "Bhavat Bhavam"
where under house as far away from a house as the latter is
from the lagna acts as the former. But the presence of such a
Mars, in our opinion, how much so ever it might have been an
instrument for causing injury to the body was not sufficient
enough to cause death. But in this case Mars fully aspects by
its 8th aspect the 8th house, lord of the 8th house, a factor and
the significator of longevity. Due to the said influences on the
8th house factors showing the mode of death, death occured
due to violence. There is also the aspect of Jupiter on the 8th
house and its lord. This aspect is likely to be taken as a
desirable feature by unwary minds, Jupiter here is the planet of
violence being the dispositor of Ketu — the violent planet who
always acts like violent Mars.
Dispositors in Astrology 75
The aspect of Jupiter on the 8th house and its lord
therefore helps Mars in bringing about death by
violence. The study of the Chandra lagna too is
interesting. This lagna contains Venus, who is its lord as
well as lord of the 8th house therefrom. It is, therefore,
obvious that violent influence on Venus would indicate
death by violence. Again see influence of the aspect of
violent Ketu on one side of Venus and the same aspect
on the other side too. Again mark, inter alia, the location
of Jupiter—dispositor of Ketu on one side of Venus and
of Mercury — dispositor of Mars on the other, Thus the
lagna, its lord; the 8 th house, its lord, all factors relevant
to the mode of death are influenced by violent planets
Mars and Ketu, or their dispositors impelling death by
being guillotined.

All Too Short Life Of Mother

(21) The Moon in the horoscope No. 22 is occupying
the best trine and is strong in Paksha Strength i.e., it is
quite far away from the Sun. Besides, it is aspected by
the benefic lord of the lagna, and yet mother of the native

signified by the Moon died when he was hardly one

month old. The horoscope bears number 18 of the
volume of Taurus Ascendant in "Sapta Rishi Nadi".
76 Dispositors in Astrology
Why so short life to the mother? There are many Mars
like influences on the 4th house and its lord, through
Mars, through Ketu and through Saturn acting as the
dispositor of Ketu. But what we desire to point out is
that the aspect of Venus on the Moon —the significator
of mother is actually the aspect of two malefics—the Sun
and., Mars because Venus is acting actually as the
dispositor of these two malefics.

Wider Role of Dispositors

(22) The following horoscope No. 23 of a male
appears at serial number 50 in the volume for Taurus
Ascendant in Sapta Rishi Nadi. The balance of dasa of
Rahu at birth was 17 years and 10 months. It is stated by

the Nadi that mother of the native will die in his 36th
year- of life, during dasa of Saturn and sub-period also
of Saturn. Saturn afflicts Venus by association. Venus
being lord of the sign occupied by the Moon represents
mother. Thus this affliction is the cause of the death of
the mother. Then Saturn fully aspects by its 3rd aspect
Jupiter, who is lord of the house of longevity of mother
i.e., the 8th house from the 4th. Prima facie Saturn does
not seem to afflict the Sun —lord of the 4th house
representing mother, but since Jupiter is the dispositor
Dispositors In Astrology 77

of the Sun, Jupiter's affliction is the affliction of the Sun as

well. Since the Sun is lord of the 8th house from the 9th and
since the 9th is 4th from the Chandra lagna, the Sun
represents longevity of mother with reference to theChandra
lagna. Thus the affliction of Jupiter by Saturn harms the

Death by Paralysis
(23) Death by paralysis takes place when the factors
from which the mode of death has to be examined are
influenced by the planets denoting the nerves i.e., by
Saturn and Rahu and, of course by their dispositors. The
horoscope No. 24 is of a person who died from paralysis.

The lagnas and their lords and the 8th house and its lord tell us
the mode of death, through the type of influences falling on
them. In this case under consideration the lagna is influenced
by Venus, the dispositor of Saturn. It is surrounded by the
influence of Rahu on one side i.e., on the 12th house through
Jupiter, who is the dispositor of Rahu and on the other side by
Saturn who is aspecting it. The lordship of the lagna goes to
Saturn (nerves) himself...The Chandra lagna is not only under
the direct
76 Dispositors in Astrology
10th aspect of Saturn, but is also surrounded by the
undersirable influence of Rahu on one side and the dispositor
of Saturn i.e., Venus on the other. The 8th house of the
horoscope is in kendra to Saturn and fully aspected by Jupiter,
dispositor of Rahu. Lord of the 8th house is with the same
dispositor of Rahu i.e„ Jupiter. The 8th house from the Moon
has the cross influence of Rahu on one side, and of Saturn on
the other. The lord of 8th from the Moon is the dispositor of
Ketu and has the surrounding influence of Saturn on one side
and of Rahu through Jupiter on the other. Thus we see that the
four factors representing tire mode of death are all influenced
by the planets Rahu and Saturn who are the significators of
nerves and as such brought about death by paralysis, In the
dasa of Venus, the dispositor for Saturn and bhukti of Jupiter
the dispositor of Rahu brought about death by paralysis in this
case.

Longevity Of Progeny And 12th House

(24) The horoscope No. 25 is of a former member of
parliament. He lost his sons through the collapse of a house in
London. He was born on 14-2-1930. Lord of

the 5th house and lord of the 8th from 5th denote the
longevity of sons. T hese are Mars and Mercury. These
Dispositors in Astrology 79
planets are surrounded by malefics Saturn and the Sun. The
8th fromthe 5th is aspected by Saturn as dispositor for two
malefics Mars and the Sun. The lord of the said 8th house is in
the 8th from its place, in the company of malefic Mars. Ketu, a
malefic, aspects the said 8th house, Thus what Jupiter has
given by his position as the significator of sons in the house of
gains, and by the exalted position of Mars in a kendra is taken
away by the affliction of lord of the 5th house and lord of the
8th from 5th. The point to be noted in this horoscope is that
Saturn already a malefic in himself has become extremely so,
and in fact a first rate killer by becoming the dispositor of the
Sun and particularly of the killer Mars, thereby killing the boys
at their young age through its aspect on the 12th house— the
house of longevity sons.

Long Life To A Doctor

(25) The horoscope No. 26 belongs to a doctor, born
on 13th of June, 1894 at 10.00 A.M. at Bareilly (UP). He
is at present running 88th year of his life. One of the

reasons for his long life is the influence of Jupiter on the

lord of lagna, who is in a kendra too. Another reason is
that the significator of longevity viz. Saturn is fully
80 Dispositors in Astrology

aspected by Jupiter. Yet another reason for the long life

is the fact that the significator of longevity i.e., Saturn is
very strong being in retrogression. As often observed
by us the aspect of Saturn (the significator of longevity)
on the house of longevity does not detract longevity,
but on the other hand is an asset in the matter, A weak
Moon gives short life. On the contrary strong Moon as
in the present case is an indicator of long life. Still
another reason for long life—a reason with which we
are concerned in the present study is the fact that Venus
the dispositor of the Sun and Jupiter —factors of
longevity (lords of the 1st and 8th houses respectively)
is fully aspected by a very strong Moon thereby boosting
longevity still further.

Aspect Of Jupiter—Cause Of Death

(26) Can you ever imagine that the aspect of Jupiter
can kill a native? No. But here is case No.: 27 where it

actually happened.. The following is the birth chart

number 8 for Taurus Ascendants from the book Indian
Astrology by late C.J. Krishnaswamy. The 12th house of the
horoscope being 8th from the 5th is the house of longevity of
sons. This house i.e. the 12th is aspected by Jupiter by its 5th
aspect, Since, Jupiter is the dispositor
Dispositors in Astrology 81
of the Sun and Mars—two malefic planets, its aspect on
the 12th house was virtually the aspect of the Sun and
Mars. Saturn and Ketu too are aspecting the 12th house.
But what we are concerned chiefly is to show that the
aspect of Jupiter on the house of longevity of sons is an
adverse factor causing their death. For the same reason
of being the dispositor of two malefics, the Sun and
Mars, Jupiter harmed ultimately the 5th (sons) from the
Chandra lagna too.
Chapter IV
Dispositors And Diseases

(1) The native of the horoscope No. 28 was a clerk in the

Defense Accounts Department of the Government of India.

He had ulcer of the stomach and died on 1-4-1964

due to that ailment. The Sun in the 5th house
representing stomach is there as lord of the 12th house,

which is the destruction house i.e., the 8th for stomach.

In this context it must be understood that the location
of the lord of any house is clearly detrimental not only
to the person represented by that house but also for the
organ represented by the house involved in suffering.
Besides this, the Sun is also the dispositor of the
Dispositors In Astrology 83
signifies tor of diseases ie; Saturn. The Sun is more over is in
an inimical sign in the house representing stomach. Similarly
when you ponder over lord of the 5th house you will find it; as
the dispositor of the Sun i.e., representing the stomach doubly
and is placed 8th from its sign Capricorn falling ill the 5th
house. Again it is placed in the 12th from lagna in an inimical
sign arid aspected by malefic Mars and Venus dispositor of
Ketu.
Mars is, doubly malefic, because in addition to being a
natural malefic, it is' dispositor of two malefics, Rahu and the
Moon. The Moon, is malefic because it is within 72° from the
Sun. Venus is malefic because it is the dispositor of malefic.
Ketu. The 5 th house of the horoscope represents stomach. The
5th house lord Saturn is aspected by Mars and Venus, the
dispositor of Ketu. Ulcer is an inflammatory disease shown
here by the afflictions from the Sun, Ketu and Mars. ,

(2) The horoscope No.29 is of an impotent person. It

would be observed that there, are, as many as four impotency
producing influences on the 7th house the

house of semen and sex. Rahu directly aspecting the 7th house
is one of such influences, Mercury, the dispositor of Rahu
afflicting the, same house is second, Mercury who by itself is
an eunuch occupying the same house is
84 Dispositors in Astrology
third, and the aspect of Saturn on the 7th house is the
fourth factor. The 7th house and its lord thus being under
influences of four planets standing for impotency was
sufficient to make the man impotent, particularly, when
Venus, the significator of semen too is in the 6th house,
the house of diseases and dearth, in the sign of
hermaphrodite Saturn, surrounded by double impotent
influence on either side of it, viz, of Rahu and Saturn on
7th and Rahu (by 5th aspect) on 5th. The 7th house and
its lord Mars, considered with reference to the Chandra
lagna too has impotent influences on either side of it
through Rahu. Thus Mercury acting alone and in
collaboration with Saturn was enough to cause
impotency. But here Mercury is functioning additionally
as an impotent planet by being the dispositor of Rahu.
Again the Sun, being lord of the 6th house from the 7th,
is a sexual disease factor. The 6th house, it must never
be forgotten, is the house of dearth and hence the Sun
in this case carries dearth to the house of sex.
(3) The Vimshottari Dasa system is such a wonderful
system that it shows not only the time of events, but
also the nature thereof. The native of the horoscope

No, 30 had an accident by fire in the main dasa period of

the Sun and sub-period of Saturn. He was, however,
saved. We will examine the horoscope to see how the
Dispositors in Astrology 85
planets the Sun and Saturn justify the accident by fire.
The main dasa lord Sun by virtue of its conjunction with
fiery Ketu and by virtue of himself being naturally a fiery
planet, does represent fire here in ample measure. Saturn
being the dispositor of the Sun and Ketu also stand for
the Sun and Ketu i.e. fire. If these two planets i.e., the
Sun and Saturn have their influence on the lagna i.e. the
body, the accident by fire will be established
astrologically. Now Saturn fully aspects Mercury, lord of the
lagna by its 3rd aspect, Saturn, therefore, is clearly throwing
its fiery influence on the body. We also know from rule
number 7 of Chapter one, that the bhukti lord always
influences the main dasa lord irrespective of their position in
the horoscope, Saturn the fiery planet will thus put fire, as it
were, on the Sun, who we know acts as the body being one of
the lagnas, The Sun is already under fire by its association
with fiery Ketu. The main point not to be missed in examining
the horoscope is that Saturn being the dispositor for two fiery
planets the Sun and Ketu, will act as fire and thereby
strengthen our belief that the dispositors give, additionally, the
effect of the planet or planets of whom they are the dispositors.

Loss of Sight
(4) The horoscope No. 31 is an example of
loss of eye sight. Although this loss of sight occurred in
the middle age at about the 47th year, still we can take
up the horoscope for study as it illustrates the role of
dispositors, which form the main theme of this book.
The first thing to be noted is the presence of Ketu in
the 2nd house. This departs the malefic nature of Ketu
to Mars, who is the dispositor of Ketu. Mars, thus
conveys two malefic and cruel influences to the 12th
house i.e., the left eve . The 12th house is also afflicted
86 Dispositors In Astrology
by the 10th aspect of Saturn, who is the dispositor of
Mars throws double malefic influence on the same house

i.e.the left eye.,The 12th house i.e. the 1eft eye thus could,
succumb to deadly afflictions any moment; But the aspect of
Jupiter on this house; coupled with the fact that the planet
Mercury, occupying the 12th,being the. dispositor of Jupiter is
also a saving grace for the left eye. It is due to the double
influence of Jupiter that the onset of disease was delayed till,
the 47th year of life;

Burning of face
(5) Present the following horoscope No. 32 to a
student of Astrology and ask him to offer his
comments in regard to the nature of events in the main
Dispositors in Astrology 87
ruling period of Venus and sub ruling period of Moon.
He is likely to answer the native might have met some
accident related to water, as both Venus — the dasa lord
and the Moon the sub period lord are Watery planets.
His reasoning would not be bad; It, however; lacks
comprehensiveness. He has forgotten to notice that the Moon
— the sub period lord, is the dispositor of the Sun, Mars and
Mercury located in the Ascendant. Now the Sun is fire and so
is Mars; Mercury with fiery planets-the Sun and Mars is also
'fiery' in nature. Thus the dispositor of these fiery planet i.e.
the Moon, will play the role of fire and not of water. By
throwing fiery influence on the sign-number two, standing for
the organ number two of the body astrologically i.e.; the face,
it will burn the face, more particularly when you remember the
rule 7 in Chapter 1 that the planet having its sub-period always
influences the main period lord, for good or for bad,
irrespective of their location in the birth chart, Thus, Venus, as
lord of the second sign and the significator of face ,afflicted by
the fiery moon, will confirm burns on the face during
the. sub-period of Moon in the main period of Venus; This
horoscope belongs to the author of these lines himself (J N
Bhasin) and, as such, may surely be taken, as trustworthy. It
has been presented here because it is quite, relevant to the main
topic of this book viz. the role of planets as dispositors and
therefore gives us a good lesson, In fact the lesson it affords
clinches the issue and establishes the fact that it is absolutely
essential to study the role of planets as dispositors before
venturing a prediction. The writer Of these lines was born at
Rawalpindi (now Islamabad in Pakistan) on 7/ 8-8-1908 with a
balance of the dasa of Mercury- 4-8-0. years, under the
Vimsottarii dasa system.
88 Dispositors in Astrology
Hydrocele
(6) In the horoscope No. 33 if you take the Moon
and Mercury on their face value as natural benefics you
can never arrive at the correct conclusion in regard to
the affliction of the native by hydrocele, a disease
consisting of fluid accumulation in scrotum sac. The

person was born on 4-1-1931 at 5.20 P.M. Mangalore.

Now if you take note of the fact that Moon being the
lord of sign occupied by Mars is acting as Mars and
Mercury being the lord of sign occupied by Ketu is
similarly acting as Ketu. You will at once notice that both
of these planets i.e. the Moon and Mercury afflict the
8th house and its lord Jupiter with the result that trouble
of the native is denoted by the 8th house scrotum. The
same two planets viz. the Moon and Mercury afflict
Saturn too by aspect and association respectively. And Saturn
is lord of the 8th house from the Chandra lagna i.e. again
representing scrotum. In hydrocele scrotum enlarges from
excess of water like fluid. Hence the factors causing the
disease should have an element of water in them in sufficient
quantity in order to cause the disease. We see It is so here.
Firstly because the Sun as lord of the 4th house is watery.
Mars as lord of the 12th house (where its Mooltrikona sign
falls) and as the dispositor for Venus is again watery in nature.
Mercury
Dispositors in Astrology 89
is so by virtue of its being under the influence of the
watery planets the Sun and Moon. The Moon is all the
more watery being the dispositor of watery Mars, Jupiter
and "Saturn and therefore these are not only afflicted,
factors but the afflicting factors as well.

Eye Trouble
(7) The aspect of Saturn by itself is no doubt bad,
but it may do tolerable harm, But when Saturn is lord
of the sign occupied by Rahu it does considerable harm
to the party it aspects, and if Saturn is very strong also,
say being in such houses as the 3rd, 6th, 10th or being
in retrogression, then its aspect can do the maximum
harm. The native of horoscope No. 34 is stated to have
had haemorrhage in his left eye. Here Saturn as the
dispositor of Rahu is doing double mischief being strong

in the 3rd house, in his own Mooltrikona sign and in

retrogression. That is why it did maximum harm to the
left eye by fully aspecting the house representing the left eye
i.e. the 12th, which is already aspected by the 5th aspect by
malefic Ketu, who also conveys to the 12th house malefic
influence of the Sun with whom it is associated. Mars lord of
the 12th house located 8th (denoting destruction) from itself
which it is not without its sinister implications. The Moon,
significator of left
90 Dispositors in Astrology
eye, is the dispositor of Ketu and Sun and is also fully
aspected By the same strong malefic Saturn, who is
harming the other factors that stand for the left eye viz. the
12th house.

Leprosy
(8) When the Moon is the dispositor of Mars or when
reverse is the case, then the Moon and Mars become strong
significators of blood, for the reason that both stand for blood.
This would particularly be so when the sign concerned falls in
the Ascendant or when Mars occupies sign of the Moon
(Cancer) in the Ascendant, or when the Moon occupies sigh of
Mars, Aries or Scorpio, in the Ascendant. The horoscope No.
35 is of a gentleman who caught leprosis. In this case Mars,
lord

of the lagna being simultaneously the dispositor of Moon,

represents absolutely the blood in the body. Mars is fully
aspected by the Significator of diseases i.e, Saturn..
Hence the contamination of blood. Same Saturn—the
significator of diseases is fully aspecting Mercury placed in the
Surya lagna and causing trouble with the skin as well. It
should be clear that planets in lagnas give predominant results
as the roles they acquire, Hence Mercury here is absolute
representative of skin, Because of being with the Sun (a lagna)
and hence do suffer by
Dispositors in Astrology 91
the aspect of Saturn. The main idea behind illustration
example is to show that dispositors represent absolutely
the planet which they dispose.

, Impotency To Husband
(9) In a female nativity, whenever you want to
judge whether the prospective husband is sexually impotent or
not, you must examine the lagnas, for the lagna being the 7th
from the house of husband, represents his sex power and virility.
We will examine horoscope No. 36 of a female whose husband
is impotent. As said, above examine the lagna, it's lord and

Jupiter (husband in a female nativity). The lagna. here belongs

to eunuch Mercury, who shows that me sexual potency of
husband is likely to fade into impotency, if Mercury is further
subjected to any influence of an impotent nature, Here you
Will see that Mercury is fully aspected by Saturn—another
planet classed as impotent: (hermaphrodite), vide sloka 30 of
chapter 3rd of jataka Parijata. This is sufficient to make the
husband impotent. To add fuel to fire or to make impotency
deadly certain, Saturn has become here the dispositor of Rahu,
who as we know, always acts as Saturn. And again, mind you,
Saturn has also the lordship of the 6th house — the house of
dearth and scarcity — essential
92 Dispositors in Astrology
ingredients of impotency, or deficiency in any section of
life. Now take lord of the Chandra lagna i.e. Jupiter, It is
located in a house denoting wasting away and is aspected
by Rdhu—another planet acting like Saturn and bringing
in again scarcity or dearth of sex power to husband.
(10) Now the more interesting part of the story is
that the Sun is the dispositor of Jupiter and as such acts
as Jupiter. In other words influence of impotency of
Saturn and Mercury being felt by Jupiter--the planet
representing sexual potency of husband with reference
to Chandra lagna. Probably, you were thinking that
because of the Sun's conjunction Mercury ceased to be
impotent, No, the Sun himself is a party to the problem
i.e, himself is the sexual power of husband as the
dispositor of Jupiter and as such there is no question of
his modifying Mercury in any manner except, of course,
in the direction of impotency. Mars aspecting the Chandra
lagna being lord of the house of poverty i,e. 8th could hardly
be expected to help remove poverty of sexual power.

Blindness
(11) Milton—the great poet became blind around the
age of 40-41. His horoscope No, 37 is given on the next
page
A pertinent question can be raised about this birth
chart/as to why the great poet ever became blind, when
the benign Jupiter is aspecting its own 2nd house, the
house representing right eye, and also the Sun —
significator of the 2nd house (right eye) from the lagna,
and why when Jupiter is located in 12th from the Moon
(the left eye)? The answer is that it is precisely as a result
of the said aspect etc. of Jupiter that he became blind.
Yes, any planet, howsoever benefic, can function as
Dispositors in Astrology 93
malefic by being the dispositor of malefic planets. Jupiter
is no exception in the matter, Jupiter did this undesirable
act because he is the dispositor of the Sun and Mars.
Ketu is doing same to the Moon by its malefic aspect

what Jupiter is doing to the Sun, Hence Jupiter functions

as a malefic planet for being the dispositor of malefics.

Arthritis Etc.
(12) It is stated that the elder sister of the native
of the horoscope No. 38 given on the next page has excess of
Vaata, the cause of arthritis etc. The horoscope bears serial
number 84 in volume for Taurus Ascendant in Sapta Rishi
Nadi, The Nadi also states that the sister is the eldest amongst
the coborns. Now the eldest coborn is considered from the 11
th house, The lordship of l1th house goes to Jupiter who is also
the significator of elder brothers. Such a representative Jupiter
is afflicted by the 5th aspect of Rahu who conveys to it the
malefic influence of Saturn with whom Rahu is associated, The
same influence of Rahu and Saturn is felt by the llth house too,
through the 9th aspect of Rahu. This accounts for the non-
existence of elder brothers to the native. She has an elder
female coborn i.e. a sister because female planets— the Moon
and Venus are aspecting the 11th house. Coming to the
question of
94 Dispositors in Astrology
arthritis to the elder sister; the influence of Rahu and
Saturn on both the 11th house and its lord accounts for
it; The special point to be noted in present context is

that Moon, the dispositor of Saturn and Rahu is also throwing

the vata (windy) influence of Saturn and Rahu on the 11th
house, by aspects. Another point one may also note is that from
the Chandra lagna, Saturn and Rahu— the Vaata planets
responsible for arthritis etc. occupy the, 11th house—the house
of elder sister and afflict her with arthritis, In view of the fact
that the body of elder sister is afflicted in so many respects the
use of the phrase "lot of Vaayu". is perfectly justified on
astrological grounds.

Victim Of Dacoity
(13) For the main period of Saturn and sub-period of the
Sun the native horoscope No. 39 was attacked by dacoits. The
native was born on 26-12-1919 in Mungher district at 4.10
P.M. The first thing that comes to our notice is that the sub-
period belongs to lord of the same house in which the main
period lord is located. This would suggest that the events in the
main period of Saturn and sub-period of the Sun would relate
to the 4th house — the house of masses. The next point that
Dispositors in Astrology 95
comes to our notice is that while Saturn—the main dasa
lord afflicts by its 10th and 3rd aspects the lagna and its lord
i.e. Venus (body). Saturn and the Sun throw their

influences around Chandra lagna i.e. the body again. This

establishes the fact that someone from general public
(4th house) caused trouble to the native. Who could be the
person causing trouble? Saturn being the baser planet and
the Sun being the dispositor of Saturn—the person involved
is one of baser character. The trouble maker could be violent
in disposition, since Ketu, the violent node turns all the
more violent by the aspect of fiery Mars and Saturn on it.
Similarly the Sun is influenced by the aspect of Mars and
also of Ketu, as such it too is highly Violent in dispostion.
Thus both Saturn and the Sun indicate a violent person, a
burglar such as dacoit attacking the native,

Fits Since Birth

(14) If lord of the lagna suffers, it gives trouble generally
in infancy. If lord of the lagna suffering is Mercury, the
trouble is all the more during infancy since the planet Mercury
also represents the early childhood. For horoscope No. 40 it
was stated that the child suffered from fits since birth, The
main planet that causes fits is
96 Dispositors in Astrology
Rahu — the planet of fear. Astrological texts lay down in this
context that the planets the Sun and Moon representing the
body are mortally afraid of the

shadowy planets, Rahu and Ketu. In the case under

consideration, the Moon is already located with the
dreaded Rahu. Besides, the Moon is also located in the
6th house— the house of diseases. Thus there are
sufficient adverse influences on the Moon to cause
phobia, In addition the planet of early childhood i.e.
Mercury must also be examined in this matter. As lord
of the lagna and as the dispositor of Saturn, Mercury is
hemmed in between Rahu's influence on one side, directly by
its 5th aspect, and indirectly through its dispositor Mars on the
other. Moreover you can notice the influence of Rahu on both
sides of the Ascendant direct and through it dispositor —Mars.
Mark also the fact that Mercury located in the 4th house from
the Moon also signify the affliction of mind as well. Thus
Mercury, being the dispositor of Saturn, and Mars that of Rahu
has clarified and pointed out the trouble resting in the mind.
Chapter V
Miscellaneous

Poverty
(1) The horoscope No, 41 is of a compositor in press
leading an ordinary poor life. Let us study the role of
dispositor vis a vis poverty. The Sun is lord of the 8th house,
Lord of the 8th house generally gives bad results in financial
matters. But the texts say that the Sun is an exception to this
rule. No blemish to the Sun is an exception to this rule, The
blemish of lordship of the

8th house does not incur to him. Taking the Sun,

therefore as a benefic (though a cruel planet) we observe
that sign Leo is influenced by the combined influence
of Rahu and Saturn, as they aspect the Sun. Then what
98 Dispositors in Astrology
is still more damaging the Sun is, that Mars a malefic planet
has become the dispositor of Saturn and Rahu and as such is
afflicting the Sun as a threefold malefic. Ketu is, of course, a
malefic afflicting the Sun by association. Mercury being lord
of the house of dearth (6th) and of the sign occupied by the
malefic Moon. The Moon is a malefic being in vicinity of the
Sun, is also afflicting the Sun. We thus see that the Sun, Mars,
Ketu and Mercury in themselves constitute as many as 6 (add
two for Saturn and Rahu through Mars as their dispositor)
malefic influences. These six malefic influences are exerted on
Jupiter who has already bad ownership and occupies an
inimical sign. Jupiter thus suffers greatly as significator of
wealth. We can now understand the inability of the yogakaraka
Venus to stand the onslaught of six malefic planets not only
the onslaught of Jupiter, its enemy i.e. with Moon extremely
weak in Paksha strength, with lord of the Chandra lagna
and lord of the house of luck highly afflicted, with
Jupiter the significator of wealth afflicted and with lord
of the lagna aspected by many malefic planets you could
not obviously rely merely on the swakshetri i. e. dignified
position of the Yogakaraka Venus alone, In fact if you
refer to Bhavartha Ratnakara you will find that in the
opinion of its author Ramanujacharya, the position of
Venus in the 10th house gets devoid of directional
strength. The shloka is—"Simha lagne tu jaatasya
triteeyastho bhrigu shubah, rajyasthah Shukra paapahsyat
na yogan labhte narah." i.e. for a person born in Leo as his
Ascendant, Venus located in the 3rd house is benefic planet,
while, the same Venus located in the tenth house should be
considered a malefic that gives no affluence

Jupiter For Aquarius Nativities
(2) Queen Wilhelmina of Netherland is stated to had been
an immensely rich lady. She was born on31.8.1880 at 6.30
P.M. L.M.T, Latitude 52N05 and Longitude 4E20. Her
horoscope No, 42 is illustrated here. Those who condemn
Aquarius to be bad as an Ascendant should

see this horoscope, to get convinced that Aquarius can

prove a factor for one of the most lucky horoscopes. The
reason for such a luck mainly lies in the role of Jupiter,
No other lagna, with the exception, perhaps of Scorpio
can boast to have Jupiter in the representative capacity
of a planet of finance. Mark the fact that Jupiter who by
himself is a planet of wealth and plenty is here the lord
of two first rate houses of finance viz. the house of gains
(11th) and the house of wealth (2nd). If such a Jupiter is
powerful by retrogression as well, as is the case of this
queen, you can very well imagine the immense potential
of Jupiter to confer wealth through its aspect on factors
for wealth. The factors for wealth are, of course, the
lagnas and the Yogakaraka planets. If these factors are
aspected by Jupiter of the type mentioned above, there
can be little doubt for the native being a 'Crorepati' i.e. a
mutibillionaire. In the case under consideration the lagna
gets strength in so many ways. Firstly, Saturn as lord of
the lagna is aspecting one of its own signs viz. Capricorn,
100 Dispositors in Astrology
This boosts the lagna and, therefore, the wealth.
Secondly, here is the main point related to the subject of
this book, the dispositor of Saturn i.e. Mars along with
the Rajayogakaraka for the Aquarius lagna i.e. Venus is
aspected by the significator of wealth Jupiter, thereby
indicating immense riches. It would also be seen that even
though the Moon is in its own sign, it is very near the Sun and
therefore, weak, if taken by itself. But since the Moon is
aspectedby the same wealth giving Jupiter, it has become very
strong as a lagna and therefore, as a factor contributing to
great wealth,

Neecha Bhanga Rajayoga

(3) It seems where things can be explained in a very
simple way, people resort to controversial solutions. For
example, take the horoscope No. 43 of a person born on 25th
October 1923. This gentleman is stated to have risen very high
during the dasa of Sun who is debilitated in the lagna. A senior
student

of Astrology says that it is evident that but for the

impact of Neecha Bhanga Rajayoga there is no
astrological explanation to account for such a great
success during the period of a debilitated planet. It is
doubtful whether the extraordinary results attributed
Dispositors in Astrology 101
to Neecha Bhanga yoga really do arise from this yoga.
Such would indeed be the case if the rise cannot be
explained under simple rules. In the case under
consideration, the Sun is extraordinarily strong, even
without bringing in the factors for Neecha Bhanga.
The Sun is here influenced by all the planets. It is
conjunct Saturn and Venus, surrounded by Jupiter, Mars
and Mercury and aspected by the Moon. Ketu aspects the Sun
by 9th aspect (See rule 5th of chapter 1). It is a law in
Astrology vide Jataka Parijata 11-47 that a house having the
influence of all the planets gets very strong. This accounts for
his general rise in life. Let us come to dasa of the Sun, As
seen, the Sun is in debilitation not in
isolation. It is with Saturn (exalted)—the Rajayogakaraka
for Libra people. Again the Sun is with the lagna lord,
and as such is definitely benefited by Venus. It is aspected by
the full Moon— its bosom friend. It is influenced on one side
by Jupiter who according to the opinion of Bhavartha
Ratnakara is a very beneficial planet financially for Libra
natives, in spite of his owning two bad houses viz, the 3rd and
6th (we will refer to this point presently). The Sun is
influenced again by the same Jupiter through its dispositor
Mars and by Mercury giving good results of Mars. Ketu is in a
Kendra to Jupiter and hence its influence on the Sun too is
beneficial. To be boosted by all the planets in the horoscope is
no mean achievement, Hence to see the Sun only in its sign of
debilitation and shut our eyes towards other influences on it
would not be fair either for the Sun or for our own method of
judgment. As regards the beneficial role of Jupiter for Libra
lagna see our translation of 'Bhavartha Ratnakara" in Hindi
(Ms. Ranjan Publications, 16 Ansari Road, New

Delhi-110002.
102 Dispositors in Astrology
"Since Saturn is simultaneously the lord of a kendra and a
trikona (4th and 5th house) it gives the results of Rajayoga i.e.
affluence and power, but in the opinion of the author of
Bhavartha Ratnakara, Jupiter inspite of owning two bad
houses viz-the 3rd and 6th does much good to Libra people.
The rationale behind the good results of Jupiter appears to be
that Jupiter is the significator of wealth and also, at the same
time lords
two upachaya houses denoting upachaya i,e accumulation
of wealth. Thus Jupiter becomes auspicious from the
financial point of view. This benefic quality, it must be
noted, accrues only to Jupiter, because no planet except
Jupiter owns two upachaya houses along with being at the
same time the significator of wealth. Thus the influence of
Jupiter on both sides of the lagna through itself and through its
dispositor has contributed very greatly to make the Sun
prosperity giving planet and he actually proved to be

Yoga Through Functional Malefics

(4) In a Cancer lagna nativity Mercury being the lord
of two evil houses viz. the 3rd and 12th, is not supposed

to give good results in financial matters. But in case it is

influenced by other planets, by association or aspect, or
Dispositors in Astrology 103
by being the dispositor of some other planet, then
Mercury will act according to the good or bad nature of
the planets influencing it. As an illustration see the
horoscope No. 44. Here Mercury is located in the house
of wealth with Venus, the lord of house of gains (11th)
and as the dispositor of Mars and Ketu, who are
occupying the 12th house. As the dispositor of Mars,
Mercury will give Rajayoga effects for which Mars stands
in Cancer nativities. Rahu fully aspecting Mercury will
also be highly conducive to gains, as Rahu is in turn
hilly aspected by the Rajayogakaraka Mars, Thus Mercury
whether as a dispositor or under the influence of other
planets, is seen here as giving good results in financial
sphere. The native of the horoscope got $ 98000 in
sweepstake, in the dasa of Mercury and sub period of
the Moon. What do the dasa and bhukti signify in regard
to source of gains, Mercury the main dasa lord has his
Moola Trikona sign in the 3rd house, which is the 5th
from Chandra lagna. This indicates that the income or
gains can relate to such sources as lottery or speculation,
Since Mercury is virtually acting as Mars, the gains can
again be related to speculation or lottery, for Mars is lord of
the 5th house from lagna. The sub period was of the Moon,
which again is a source of income being not only a lagna in
herself, but here as lord of the lagna also, placed in the house
of gains with another planet of gains viz. Jupiter and aspecting
the house of speculation and lottery as seen from Chandra
lagna. Thus the planet- Mercury as the dispositor of
Yogakaraka Mars has given financially good results in its
dasa.

Advancement In Life
(5) It has often been noticed sometimes that lord
of one of the worst house in the horoscope gives auspicious

results. Here is the horoscope No. 45 of Pope Benedict

of Mercury as 10 years approx. He was elected Pope on
3.9.1909 in the dasa of Mars and bhukti of Venus. Mars
even ordinarily should give auspicious results as lord of the
trinal (5th) house where its Moolatrikona sign falls. But here it
has given excellent results by virtue of being the dispositor of
five planets in the 12th house, each of which is beneficial and a
source of honour...Let us see how? The Moon is there as a
lagna. The Sun is there both as a lagna and as the significator
of honour. It also denotes honour as lord of 10th from Chandra
lagna. Mercury in that house is again lord of the 10th from the
lagna and therefore, signifies honour... Venus is, of course the
gainer as lord of the llth house. If one were to declare the
results of Mercury on the basis of the good lordship of the
planet Mars, one would, no doubt, be able to say that the period
would be good, but to tell that period would involve great
honour you have to pause and go into greater details, as in the
present case, by studying lordship of the planet Mars over the
sign occupied by five planets and then studying further the
indication of each of the five planets.

Preponderence Of Wealth
(6) Queen Juliana of Netherland was born at 6.47 A.M.
L.M.T., on April 30,1909 at Lat. 52N50 and Long. 4E02. Her
horoscope No. 46, suggests that she is credited

with possession of wealth to the tune of 60 crores of

dollars— immense wealth indeed. Let us study the
horoscope with particular reference to the role of
dispositors. Accumulated wealth, we know, is studied
from the 2nd house of birth chart. The lord of 2nd house
is the Moon who represents wealth not only as lord of
the 2nd house but also as lagna. The Moon is in strength
too, being enough away from the Sun. Now such a
strong Moon is in the company of her friend and the
significator of wealth i.e. Jupiter and as such is boosted
all the more. It is not difficult now to see that the
dispositor of the Moon and Jupiter i.e. the Sun will act
as representative of good amount of wealth. Since the
Sun—the biggest among the planets is himself lord of
the sign occupied by Jupiter and the Moon, the wealth is
increased on that account too. And then note that the Sun is in
exaltation and that too in the best of upachaya house viz, the
11th. This leaves little doubt in our mind that the queen
possesses immense wealth. Being the dispositor of the three
planets viz. the Sun, Venus and
106 Dispositors in Astrology
Mercury; Mars represents immense wealth. His aspect
therefore, on the second house—the house of wealth and
on the Moon and Jupiter—the representatives of wealth,
only serves to multiply wealth unimaginable in
proportions.

Academic Studies
(7) The native of horoscope No. 47 could not continue
his studies for as many as 7 years. Saturn lord of the
second house (education) is placed in an inimical sign
in the 2nd house, from Chandra lagna. It is, therefore,
harming educational prospectus. Rahu by its 5th aspect is
aspecting lord of house of education from Chandra lagna. The
Sun is the dispositor of Saturn, his aspect on the 2nd house
from lagna, too harms education. The

intensive influence of Rahu and Saturn on the house of

education and its lord thus accounts for broken
educational career.

Mathematical Proficiency
(8) Bal Gangadhar Tilak—the famous Indian
freedom fighter was proficient in mathematics. He was
in fact, a professor for some time, In his horoscope
Dispositors in Astrology 107
No. 48 we can see the element of mathematics in his
education. As often observed by us the house related

with education in the horoscope is the 2nd. It will be

observed that the dispositor for Mars i.e. Venus is
associated with lord of the house of education i.e. the
Sun, and thus, indicating the mathematical proficiency.
The same type of education is indicated in a still more
clear manner by Mars owning the house of education
(2nd) from the Chandra lagna and also by aspecting it by
the 7th aspect.

Sanyasa (Renunciation)
(9) Whatever be the rationale behind the yoga for Sanyasa
laid down by texts, we have our own yoga for it and also the
rationale behind it. In our view a man having some sort of
Vairagya, separates himself from the family (2nd house), his
home and hearth (4th), and the enjoyments of the world (12th
house). He is said to have

(Vide page 68 of "ChandrakalaNadi") i.e. Mercury in shubha

amsha in the 2nd house makes a man handsome, efficient, timid,
intelligent, educated and happy (Mark the word "educated")
110 Dispositors in Astrology
And therefore, assured also about the acquisition of a
house. It is hoped that readers must have realised the
importance of dispositors through this example. Again
see the working of the never failing Vimshottari dasa
system, for it is highly significant that the acquisition of
house took place in the dasa and bhukti of Jupiter and
Saturn respectively. Jupiter, as we have already seen
fully represents the house and by its influence on the
factors for residence is too ready to give a house. It is
only waiting for some sub-period, which could help it
in acquisition of a house. This function is performed by
Saturn, who as dispositor of Jupiter and significator of
lands has gone to the house of acquisition or gains (11th),
associating itself there with Venus lord, of the lagna and,
the Chandra lagna (i.e. the self).

Murder
(1.1) The horoscope No. 51 is of a young man born on
16th November 1947, at 5.29 P.M. L.M.T. at Lat :
18N37;Long: 88W55 with the balance of Venus dasa as years
4.6,18. The man is stated to have stabbed a lad of

17 years on 31st October 1971'. To acquire the capacity

foror the inclination to murder, one must have a violent
mental disposition. In the first instance, the presence of
Dispositors in Astrology 111
Mars and Saturn in the house of inner self (4th), makes
the disposition violent. Considered from Chandra lagna
the facts are still more revealing. The lord of the 4th
house from the Moon is Jupiter who is associated with
the Sim in the 7th house from lagna. Let us see the violent
influence on Jupiter — the representative of mind. One
violent influence is of Ketu with whom Jupiter is
associated. Another is of Mars which fully aspects
Jupiter by its 4th aspect, and mind you, Mars is lord of
the sign occupied by Ketu and is, therefore, violent on
that account too. Last but not the least, Jupiter is
influenced by the Sun, who being the dispositor of Mars
and Saturn will bring to bear on Jupiter their malefic
and violent influences. The aspects of Ketu and the Sun
thus make the brain (lagna) also prone to violence. Let
us now study the dasa. The stabbing took place in the
sub-period of Saturn in the main period of Mars, both
turmoiling the inner self. Both are violent influences
(a) on the 4th house, (b) on its lord, the Sun, (c) on Jupiter
lord of the 8th house from the 4th i.e. on the longevity
factor of one of the persons from masses, and hence fully
denotes killing of someone belonging to the public by the
native. Saturn as lord of the 10th house i.e. deliberate self of
the native and harms the 4th house (masses),

Competitive Examinations
(12) T he horoscope No. 52 is of an officer, who at the
commencement of the dasa of Rahu appeared for the
I.R.S examination and came out successfully, As Rahu
is located in the 9th house, in the sign of yogakaraka —
Venus, and as occupies the nakshatra of Moon, this
explains that he gets advancement in life. T his does not,
however, explain as to why Rahu in Rahu was an
appropriate period for appearing in a competitive
112 Dispositors in Astrology
examination. You must consider the 5th house in all
matters relating to the competition, otherwise your

examination of the horoscope will not be to the point.

Let us, therefore, examine the question of this competition
from and with reference to the 5th house. The Sun — the
significator of Government is located in the 5th house, but we
are concerned with the dasa and bhukti. What relation has the
Sun or lord of the 5th with Rahu. Yet it has an intimate
relation. Saturn, who is lord of the house of competitive
examinations is fully aspecting Rahu. That is the reason why
Rahu— a. shadowy planet raised the question of the said
examination. Saturn is representative of the competitive exams
here. As dispositor for the Sun, it is still more representative of
such exams because the Sun is lord of the 5th house from
Chandra lagna and as such also represents these exams.
Unless, we have a wider view and take into account the
dispositor factor, our conclusions are bound to be partial and
wrong.

Intelligence
(13) Albert Einstein was a great scientist the world
has ever had, He was a great genius in science—who
discovered the formula relating to conversion of matter
Dispositors In Astrology 113
into energy. His horoscope No. 53 is discussed here.
What is the astrological cause for his extraordinary
signified intelligence? We know that intelligence is

signified by the 5th house of the horoscope. We will,

therefore, seek for an answer from that house. Lord of the 5th
house is Venus who is in the company of the subtle Sun and
the highly intellectual Mercury. But, you will say it is with
Saturn also. Yes, it is. But since Saturn is lord of the sign
occupied by Mars i.e. it is the dispositor of Mars and as such
acting as a highly intelligent factor imparting intelligence to
Venus like the Sun and Mercury. His superb knowledge of
mathematics is indicated, of course, by the influence of Mars
on the 2nd house, directly and on its lord indirectly through
the 5th aspect of. Ketu.

Enmity Of Children
(14) Very often it happens that the relative whose
representative in the horoscope is afflicted, does not pull
on well with the native. Here is the horoscope No. 54 of
a person whose children turned against him. Unless and
until you are fully aware of the principle that planets
act through their dispositors, you are sure to arrive at
wrong conclusion. Here see a strong Jupiter with his
114 Dispositors i n Astrology
friend Moon, who is equally strong and is aspecting both the
5th house and its lord (children). Prime facie, you are led to
believe that the relations between the native and

his children should be cordial. This, of course, is a wrong

conclusion, But when you see that Jupiter is lord of the house
of enmity as also the dispositor of separative planets the Sun,
Rahu and Mercury, (the last becomes separative in the
company of separative planets), you will at once realise that its
aspect on the 5th house and its lord Mars is separative in
character and will separate his children from him and turn
them antagonistic towards him. The initiative for the wrong
attitude or wrong action in such cases comes from the party or
relation whose representatives are afflicted. The afflicted
factor in this case, of course, represents the progeny. Thus we
must learn to find out the nature of planets whose dispositor a
particular planet becomes and then predict accordingly.

Fore-Knowledge (Intuition)
(15) Jupiter is a planet that is considered as capable
of knowing the future with its divine insight vide Jataka
Parijata 13-68, also Maana Saagari Paddhati 1-5. We have
observed in experience that it is so particularly when
Dispositors In Astrology 115
Jupiter is intimately linked to the lagna, and the 4th
house — the house of knowledge that generates from
inner self, as distinct from academic knowledge,
Jupiter in such a case knows the affairs relating to the

house etc. which it influences. In the horoscope No, 55

all the three lagnas, i.e. the lagna proper, the Surya lagna
and the Chandra lagna are located together, the lagna
being represented here by its lord Mercury Again mark
the fact that Jupiter is the dispositor of all the three of
them. It is at the same time lord of the 4th house too. In
fact it is lord of the 4th house from all the three lagnas
and thus admirably satisfies the condition of fore
knowledge of future events. Let us now see what
particular aspects of life Jupiter knows beforehand in this case.
Jupiter is aspecting lord of the 8th house i.e. Mars denoting
death. It is all the more representative of death, being the
dispositor of Saturn—the planet of death. In the circumstances
the aspect of Jupiter on Mars is indicative of ability of the
native to see impending death around him. Jupiter aspects the
house of death
from the Surya and Chandra lagnas as well. Thus through
dispositorship Jupiter has become a sure knower and
through the same dispositorship Mars has. become the
surely known.
116 Dispositors In Astrology

Theft
(16) The horoscope No. 56 is that of a thief Jupiter
occupying the same sign as the Sun did nothing to

improve the notorious thief. The reason is not far to seek.

Jupiter here is himself the thief, because it is lord of the
house of theft, and also because it is with Mars, the thief.
Rahu — the demon always spoils planets, particularly
those of daivy class such as Jupiter. As lord of the sign
occupied by Rahu, i.e. as the dispositor for Rahu, Jupiter
could not but act as thief when it assumed the lordship
of 6th house and when it got the association of the
notorious thief —Mars.

Debts
(17) The native of the horoscope No. 57 was
immersed in debt. The reason why the native was
immersed in debt lies with the planet Venus. Venus, we
know is functional malefic for Leo nativities. What is
especially noteworthy about Venus is that it is not only lord of
the sign occupied by Rahu and Saturn, planets of debt and
death, but is also aspected by both of them. If you are aware of
the 5th aspect of Rahu you can easily see it. Full of debt, as it
were, the full aspect of Venus on
Dispositors in Astrology 117
the lagna. (which always denotes wealth) brings about
debts. Again the debts are also caused by Venus, because

its aspect falls on the house of wealth (2nd) from the

Moon.

Fear Of Coitus
(18) It is stated that the woman to whom the
following horoscope No. 58 belongs had fear of coitus.
Now fear is an emotional factor and as such relates to

the 4th house of the horoscope. Going to the 4th house

we see that its lord Saturn occupies the house of sex
(coitus). Again we observe that Moon herself is lord of
the 4th house from the Chandra lagna. T hat Moon is
again in the 7th house (coitus), Venus lord of the house
7th to
118 Dispositors in Astrology
7th (on the principle of "Bhavat Bhavam ") again stands
for sex and is aspecting the house of sex, The Sun is in
the lagna as Surya lagna. Now Rahu—the planet of fear
and phobia is influencing all the emotional factors
mentioned above, leading to fear of coitus, Here Saturn
is the dispositor of Mars, lord of the house of sex (7th)
and for that reason too is acting for fear of coitus.

Sexual Mind
(19) The writings of man are always coloured by the
condition of his mind. In the case of Havelock Ellis,
whose horoscope No. 59 is reproduced below we are

told that a law suit was brought against him by the

authorities for his obscene writings, Let us, therefore,
study the condition of mind in this horoscope. Mind is
represented in all horoscopes by three factors viz. the
first house (brain), the 4th house (emotions) and Moon—
the significator of mind. In both the houses under
examination, we observe that Jupiter is located in the
4th house. Unless we see the lordship of Jupiter we can
not assess its full role. Here Jupiter is the dispositor for
Mars and Venus — the two planets of sex, It is, therefore,
evident that the problem of sex was foremost in the mind
of the native, Since Jupiter throws its 9th aspect on
Dispositors in Astrology 119
Moon, the mind, it also colours the mind with views
about sex. The dispositor of Mars, lord of the 4th house
from Moon lagna is again Jupiter telling the same story.
Moon is influenced as the dispositor of Saturn i.e. of
lord of the lagna, telling again the same story. Unless
you see here Jupiter as a sexual planet (which is
ordinarily difficult to think, because of the texts), you are apt
to go wrong in your judgment. Thus it is essential to assess
dispositors to have a proper view of indications in all fields of
life.

Early Foreign Travel

(20) The horoscope No, 60 is of Shri Chitranjan Das of
Bengal—the famous political leader. Shri Das went to London
for studies at the early age of eight. We have

to find out the yoga for foreign travel at that age. At the
time of journey he was having the main ruling period
of Mercury and sub ruling period of the Sun. Now the
rule for the foreign travel is that the das a and bhukti lords
must afflict the 8th house and its lord. Let us see in the
first instance, what is the position here in regard to the yoga
for foreign travel. The 8th house of the horoscope is fully
aspected by the two malefic planets Saturn and Ketu. What is
still more noteworthy is the fact that the
120 Dispositors in Astrology
dispositor of these two malefics is Jupiter, who by its
location in the 8th house is also afflicting that house. In
view of the four fold heavy malefic influences on the 8th
house, coupled with the fact that Mercury lord of the 8th house
in turn is also afflicted by the full 5th aspect of Rahu,
containing in it the influence of Saturn too (by whom Rahu is
aspected); the journey was early in life. It is also to be
remembered that when Mercury gets afflicted it gives the
results of the house owned by it quickly. The reason is that
Mercury—the Kumara i.e. the boy takes up on itself and
exhibits the influences early in its period on the symbolic
analogy of the early age of boy-hood represented by Mercury.
Thus, the advent of the journey abroad in the dasa of lord of
the 8th house was only appropriate, The Sun—a malefic,
planet and more so as the dispositor of Mars in its sub-period
afflicted Mercury lord of the 8th with whom it is located and
hastened the travel.

Dispositor And Foreign Travel

(21) There are different opinions in regard to the
house of horoscope that is concerned with foreign travel.

Some consider it from the 9th house, others from the

12th. We, however, are of the opinion that foreign travel
Dispositors in Astrology 121
should be considered from the 8th house and its lord in
the horoscope. We will therefore, proceed to illustrate
the role of dispositor vis a vis the 8th house in respect of
journeys abroad. The person who went abroad in
December 1968 in the dasa of Mercury and sub-period
of the Sun. If Vimshottari dasa system is correct, and we
have not the least doubt that it is so, then the dasa and
bhukti should tell the nature of event in this and all other
cases. And it does so. Let us see how? Venus as lord of the 8th
house is required to be under afflictions to fulfil the condition
governing journeys abroad. Here it is aspected by Mars. Now
Mars is lord of the sign occupied by Jupiter. It is also lord of
the sign occupied by Ketu and Saturn. Since Mars itself is a
malefic planet and is at the same time the dispositor of two
malefics, it would, naturally, prefer to act as a malefic and
afflict Venus, lord of the 8th house. Yes. So far so good. What
about the benefic aspect of Jupiter on the same Venus lord of
the 8th house? Jupiter as a benefic planet aspecting Venus
would apply a break to travel abroad, as the benefic influence
on the 8th house and its lord is not conducive for travel abroad.
Why was then there the journey abroad? The reason here is
that Jupiter in the case under consideration is not functioning
as Jupiter, but as Venus, being the dispositor of Venus and
thus, by being under heavy affliction of three malefics the Sun,
the Moon and Mercury, would lead to foreign travel. That the
Sun, the Moon and Mercury are all malefics it is easy to see.
The Moon in the vicinity of the malefic Sun, is of course,
malefic. Mercury is malefic by virtue of being the dispositor of
Mars. Now let us see how the dasa of Mercury and sub-period
of Sun indicate that they are appropriate for bringing about
foreign travel. As already seen both Mercury and the Sun are
malefics.
122 Dispositors in Astrology
Both are fully aspecting Jupiter by the 7th aspect. If
therefore, Jupiter acts as Venus (lord of the 8th house),
the malefic influence of the Sun and Mercury would
cause foreign travel. Is Jupiter acting as Venus ? Yes.
Surely, because Jupiter being lord of the sign occupied
by Venus is the dispositor of Venus and as such functions
for him.

Spiritual Attainments
(22) The horoscope No, 62 belongs to Shri Rama
Krishna Param Hamsa. It is to be noted that Saturn is

the dispositor for all the three lagnas, viz. lagna proper,
Chandra lagna and Surya lagna. Saturn being in exaltation,
in the house of religion and spirituality links the entire self-
represented by the lagnas to spirituality. T he dispositor of lord of
the lagna. i.e. Venus is, in turn, again exalted in the second
house, adding still more lustre to the spiritual state of his
personality. T he full 5th aspect of Jupiter on Saturn is again,
adding still further, the spiritual content in his life. It must be
remembered that Jupiter for Aquarius nativities is a great factor
of value in its broadest sense and its aspect makes all things
valuable and of a very high standards which fall under
Dispositors in Astrology 123
its influence through association or aspect. In the case
under consideration the spiritual aspect of Jupiter falls
on the 9th house and makes that house i.e. spirituality
of the highest order.

Nodes and Good Results

(23) King Peter of Yugoslavia (chart No. 63) had
weak Moon in the 12th house and yet he was a king. The
reason lies in two factors. Firstly, Jupiter - the

benign benefic is fully aspecting lord of the Ascendant

i.e the Moon and providing her strength, Secondly,
there is 5th aspect of Ketu on the Moon. This aspect conveys
to the Moon benefic influence of planets that are all conducive
to wealth and position, viz the Sun, Mars and Venus. The Sun
is, of course, kingdom, Mars is the Rajayogakaraka, and
Venus is lord of the house of gains. Ketu has thus contributed
towards kingship. The horoscope is illustrative of how the
node Ketu has imbibed in it, the good influences of the good
planets aspecting it and how it has conveyed those good
influences on to the lord of the lagna through its aspect?
Jupiter is also aspecting Ketu and the Moon through its
dispositor Venus and itself.

Imprisonment
(24) The native of chart No. 64 a criminal was born on
7-2-1929 at 10.04 A.M. L.M.T at Lat : 37N47 and 89W07
with the balance of Sun about 3 years.
It was stated that the native of horoscope No. 64
spent most of the period of dasa of Rahu in jail. The yoga

for imprisonment, we know, is constituted when the

lagna is under the restrictive influence of Rahu and/or
Saturn, for what is after all imprisonment, if not the
restrictions on the movements of the body. In the case
under consideration the role of Venus has carefully to
be noted. Venus is the dispositor of Rahu and Mars and
therefore, acts as these two planets. We thus see that
Rahu and Mars are on one side of the Ascendant, and
their dispositor i.e. Venus on the other. The lagna is thus
under the hemming influence of Rahu and Mars, which
means that the lagna is under restrictive influences.
Again mark the fact that Rahu has his 9th aspect on the
Sun and the Moon —the other two lagnas, again
increasing the intensity of the restrictive influence on
the body. These restrictive influences are more than sufficient
indications for a confined life. Since the mind of the native of
horoscope is of a criminal nature, crime landed him in prison.
The mind is criminal because
Dispositors in Astrology 125
Moon lord of the 4th house is fully influenced by the violent
planet Mars through Rahu's 9th aspect. The point for special
note is that the mind is violent and crime prone also because
Saturn the dispositor of the Sun and Moon (brain) is
influenced by criminal Mars by its 8th aspect.

Imprisonment In The Dasa And Bhukti Of Jupiter

(25) The planetary writ is the divine writ. It is
applicable to the king and the beggar alike. Who could
imagine that an industrialist of the eminence of Ram
Krishan Dalmia could be convicted and thrown behind

bars and that too in the dasa and bhukti of best of

benefic—Jupiter? His horoscope No. 65 is given here.
Let us first understand the cause astrologically.
Imprisonment is the confinement of the body, so the
restrictive influence of Saturn and Rahu etc., has to be
on the lagna representing the body. Let us start with the
Chandra lagna. It is fully aspected by Mars by its 8th
aspect, being the dispositor of Rahu is acting as Rahu
and thereby restricting movements of the body, within
the narrow four walls of prison. Rahu is also throwing
directly its restrictive influence on the same Moon. Rahu is
influenced by Saturn the planet of restriction through Mercury
—the dispositor of Saturn again through Jupiter
126 Dispositors in Astrology
and therefore, acting as Saturn. Let us move on to the
lagna proper. The lagna is fully aspected by Saturn and
so is its lord Mercury. In these circumstances, it is clear
that in any dasa and bhukti which brings the lagna into
restrictive influence, imprisonment can be inflicted.
Jupiter in its dasa and bhukti was afflicted directly by
the association of Rahu. It is also surrounded by
restrictive influence in the shape of Mars — the dispositor
of Rahu on one side and the influence of Saturn and its
dispositor on the other. Hence the dasa and bhukti of
Jupiter was quite appropriate provided of course, that
Jupiter took on the role of any of the lagnas. Yes, it was,
for Jupiter is lord of the Surya and Chandra lagnas. Being
the dispositor of Mercury, lord of the lagna proper,
Jupiter was acting for the lagna proper too. Thus
imprisonment in the dasa and bhukti of Jupiter,
howsoever unfortunate and odd it may appear
otherwise, was really very appropriate astrologically.

Twin Births
(26) Here is the horoscope No. 66 from Saptarishi
Nadi and is number seven in the volume for Gemini

Ascendant. It is stated by the Nadi that father of the

native is one of twins. Now yoga or the planetary
Dispositors in Astrology 127
combination for twins is that lord of the lagna, lord of
the 3rd house (brothers), Mars— the significator of
brothers, and Mercury the factor for plurality should
all have mutual relation. Let us examine the horoscope
from this angle. The house for father is the 9th, whose
lord here is the planet Saturn. The lord of 3rd house of father is
Mars. There should be a link between Saturn, Mars and
Mercury. Saturn is neither influenced directly by Mars nor by
Mercury. But the Sun represents both Mars and Mercury being
the dispositor for Mars and Moon, where Moon is lord of the
sign occupied by Mercury. Thus, aspect of the Sun on Saturn
being the aspect of Mars and Mercury makes the father a twin.
If you consider the problem from Chandra lagna you will see
that Aries falls in the house of father (9th). Mars should
therefore have a link with Mercury. It has through the Moon
who is working as Mercury being the dispositor of Mercury,

Refusal To Accept Inheritances

(27) The horoscope No. 67 has been taken from
Saptarishi Nadi volume for Gemini Ascendant, The

Nadi says that the native would deliberately refuse to

accept inheritances and would make a house of his own.
128 Dispositors In Astrology
Inheritances are related to the 9th and 4th houses of the
horoscope, The Sun in himself is not only a planet that
denotes the deliberate "self', but being the dispositor
of the Moon and lord of the third house (arms and self)
represents the deliberate self in threefold manner. The
influence of the Sun on Mercury — lord of the 4th house
(property) and on Saturn—lord of the 9th (father)
therefore, indicates denial of the inherited property. It
must be remembered the Sun is a separative factor and
hence acting as the deliberate self denies inheritances.

Birth In A Big City

(28) Saptarishi Nadi has this horoscope No. 68 at serial
number 22 of the volume for Gemini Ascendants. It says that
this native was born in a big city. Is it possible

to have an idea about the birth in a city from a horoscope? Yes

it is. The first house denotes the very first event of one's life
viz; one's birth and as such it is related to everything that is
intimately linked to the conditions at birth. Let us therefore,
examine the Ascendant for the purpose in view. The Ascendant
contains two planets i.e. the Moon and Mars. The Moon being
the queen, no doubt signifies everything big, important and of
status. Mars by himself is no doubt
Dispositors In Astrology 129
only of a low middle class status. But Mars is the
dispositor of the Sun, being lord of the sign occupied
by the Sun. Mars is thus surely acting as the Sun and
therefore, in big way. Mars, thus, indicated a big city.
Thus, the link of the Moon and Mars with the lagna does
indicate birth in a big city. But this is not all. The lord of
lagna i.e. Mercury is associated with the royal Sun and
therefore, further confirms the birth in a big city.
Mercury being simultaneously lord of the Chandra lagna
as well further confirms birth in a big city. The point of
special interest in the horoscope is, of course, the role of
Mercury as double dispositor of the lagnas as also the
role of Mars as the dispositor of the Sun, linking the
Sun to the lagna,

Dearth Of Education
(29) The native of the horoscope No. 69 has very little
education says Sapta Rishi Nadi in number 23 of

volume relating to Gemini Ascendants. One wonders

why the man had very little education when Mercury
the intellectual and significator of education is located
with the logical planet Mars in the house of education?
But one would soon realise that both of these planets are
influenced by Saturn, because Saturn is on one side of

them and the dispositor of Saturn i.e., the Sun is on the
other, along with the dispositor of Rahu i.e. Venus. Again
considered from the Chandra lagna one observes that the
second house from the Moon, representing education is
fully aspected by the 3rd aspect of Saturn, the illiterate.
The lord of the 2nd house from Chandra Lagna i.e. Venus
already afflicted by owning a sign occupied by Rahu

for Saturn with whom Venus is located is working as
Saturn.

A Good Looking Wife

(30) Saptarishi Nadi states that the native of
horoscope No. 70 (serial number 66 of the volume for
Taurus Ascendants in the Nadi) has a good looking wife.
One wonders why the above conclusion has been

arrived at by the Nadi when Saturn the ugly, is occupying

the house representing the face of the wife? (i.e. the 8th
house of the horoscope). The justification of the
statement of Nadi lies in the fact that Saturn being
dispositor of the Sun, is influencing the face of wife, as the
shining Sun and not the dark Saturn. The 8th house of the
horoscope i.e. the face of wife looks good because Mars the
planet of reddish hue also aspects that house.

Considering from the Chandra lagna lord of the 8th house
therefore being Venus, the beautiful, in company of the
Moon aspected by Mars also gives a beautiful face to
wife. Thus, but for the precaution to take Saturn as the
dispositor for the Sun, one would have derived a wrong
conclusion in regard to looks of wife of the native.
How excellent is the principle of dispositorship !
