10. Course Description/Aims of study
The course exposes students with abilities, skills and knowledge about human resource
management. Students learn about the four basic functions of human resource management:
recruitment and selection; training and development; staff appraisal and maintenance
To prepare and equip students with various techniques and theories about successful
management of people at work. This involves clear understanding of the labour laws in Malawi;
issues of staff selection and recruitment; staff training and development; ; staff appraisal and
staff motivation.
11. LEARNING OUTCOMES/COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Understanding of to manage the human side of enterprise is critical to the success of any
business. Although human resources are a critical resource of any organisation; how these
human resources are managed is very crucial. This is the utmost learning outcome of the course
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
a. Apply various techniques for managing people at work.
b. Demonstrate the understanding of the Labour Laws in Malawi.
