School’s Current Situation

Lut-od National High School is located in barangay Lut-od, Pinamungajan, Cebu, a mountainous
barangay 5 kilometers due east of Pinamungajan. Specifically, it is situated in a slope area near a creek.
Its relative distance from the nearest private secondary school is 5 km., from the nearest public
secondary school is 6 km., and from the nearest public elementary school is 0.1 km. It has 5 feeder
schools namely Lut-od Elementary School, Duangan Elementary School, Guimbawian Elementary School,
Punod Elementary School and Binabag Elementary School.
The school can be reached in 15 minutes travel by a motorcycle through a provincial road from
the town market going to the municipality of San Fernando, Cebu. There is no cellphone signal inside the
school campus. Researching on the web during the class hours is impossible. It is difficult for teachers to
access information such as DepEd Orders, memoranda, emails and text messages during class hours.
Teachers are somewhat behind of what is in the web for class instructions. They need to travel for either
5 to 17 kilometers in order to compete with what is new today. The provision of Konsum doesn’t answer
the network problem in the work place.

But its topography doesn’t hinder the school to produce quality graduates. Teachers and school
head need to do their job to give what us due to their clientele.

Lut-od National High School has a total enrollment of four hundred fifty six (456) students for
school year 2018-2019. It has fourteen (14) classrooms: twelve (12) of which are in good condition and
two (2) are for minor repair. It has an administrative building shared by the Principal’s Office, the
Guidance Office. It has a library with few learner’s materials, a computer laboratory room that needs
minor repair, a science laboratory but with insufficient equipment and apparatus, a TLE room, a clinic, a
students’ canteen, and a multi-purpose room. There are five hundred ninety-six (596) seats resulting to
1:3 learner-seat ratio.

For textbooks: not all subjects have textbooks. English, Math and Science are the only subjects
with available textbooks with 1:1 ratio. There is an available electrical supply via grid. Currently, there
are fifteen (15) nationally – funded teachers; six (6) of whom are males and (9) are females. One Teacher
is T-3, four are T-2, and ten are T-1. The teacher – student ratio is 1:33; that is in every thirty three (33)
students there is one (1) teacher. For teachers’ growth and development, they are encouraged to
pursue graduate studies. They were sent to trainings and seminar –workshops in order for them to be
equipped with what is lacking for them especially if they are teaching subjects not for them to be
equipped with what is lacking for them especially if they are teaching not in their specialization.

The school conducted an in – service training twice a year: before the new school year started
which serves as preparation to face all the challenges they have to meet and during the mid-year break
to evaluate of what had been done midway of the school year. The training checked whether there’s a
need to continue and share the best practices and improve or stop other activities/ strategies/
methodologies that hamper students desire to learn. Interventions were implemented to progress the
competence of teachers like the conduct of LAC sessions, mentoring, and peer-teaching.

Based on the nutritional status report there were more wastes Grade 7 students compared to
other grade level. Feeding activity was made in order to address malnourished children which covers 41
of them as seen in the table above. Deworming activity was also done twice a year, beginning and
ending of school year. There were students with unique ailment like blood disease from Grade 8
students and visual impairment from Grade 7.

For students’ safety: the school has finish fencing about 50% of the school site. The school need
also to construct drainage system to facilitate the fast flow of rain water. The students are welcome to
tell their feelings, concerns and problems to their class advisers and to the designated guidance
counselor. If they are hesitant to share their problems face to face they are feel free to drop them in the
opinion box. Constant counseling, heart to heart talk with advisers, parents/guardians were done. To
cater the needs of our learners who are already overage and they are working but not completed high
school level, the school plan to adopt the ALS program.

Child mapping was done in barangay Lut-od and the neighboring barangays specifically in
barangay Duangan, Punod (South-west part), Guimbawian (North-west part) and Binabag (Northern
part). Based on the data gathered, the population of children ages 10-17 of barangay Lut-od and the
neighboring barangays is four hundred fifty-five (455), of whom two hundred forty (240) are males and
two hundred fifteen (215) are females. There are twenty-eight (28) males not in school and nine (9)
females. Of the thirty-seven (37) OSY, fourteen (14) got married, three (3) suffered from illness, twelve
(12) got a job and eight (8) are at home attending their siblings.

Enrollment for last three school years is decreasing. Dropout rate is decreasing but still does not
hit the Division target which is 0. Promotion rate is 100%. For NAT MPS doesn’t meet the Division
benchmark. Scores vary depending on the subjects in each school year. It is evident that SY 2018-2019
