Module 3B - Billones, Gina D.
4. Based on your evaluation of the materials, are they appropriate to the level and characteristics
of learners? Are there learners who might be disadvantaged by the materials (based on reading
ability, level of learning independence, level of household support, distance)? What adjustments
will you make in terms of the LRs?
➢ Yes, these materials are appropriate to the level and characteristics of learners. But
some of our learners might be disadvantaged by the materials. Teachers should
consider that each learner has unique characteristics and they have individual
differences which affect how they learn. Even though the material is MELCs
connected which is fit to all target learners, still, there are learners who may be
disadvantaged by the materials. That is why the teacher should prepare additional
learning resource in order to deepen the knowledge of the learners so that they can
still study and learn even without the guidance of their parents.
ACTIVITY 2.
In your LAC Session, share and discuss your answers from the previous activity. What support
can you provide to your colleagues and what support can you get from them in terms of LRs?
Take note of the insights that you can gather from your colleagues and write them in your Study
Notebook.
➢ “Sharing is Caring”. Sharing is really important in this time of pandemic. By sharing
the LRs that we have that is applicable to our lessons, we can help each other. We
should work hand on hand and support each other to implement properly the LDM
to provide necessary learning to our pupils to harvest a good result.
ACTIVITY 1.
Establish access to the following portals:
1. LRMDS Portal. Ensure that you have an LRMDS Portal Account. If you have not registered yet,
follow the LR Portal User Guide to guide you in your registration process. Alternatively, seek
assistance from any of your colleagues or your IT personnel in your school, district, or division.
You may also coordinate with your LAC Leader and/or Coach. To understand the portal better,
you may watch the LR Portal Video Tutorial located in the resources of this Course.
➢ I have already browsed the website using my account.
2. DepEd Commons. Ensure that you have access to DepEd Commons. Refer to Memorandum
on DepEd Commons dated March 17, 2020.
Explore the Portals. In your Study Notebook, answer the following questions:
1. Given the LDM adopted in your School, how can the two DepEd portals respond to your LR
needs and those of your learners’? How do they complement the LRs that you already have?
➢ If this two both works, the LDM adopted in our school and the DepEd portals it will
help a lot in choosing appropriate LR materials because it gives us enough
supplementary activities and reading materials needed for learning.
2. What are the challenges in accessing the LRs in the portals both for you and your learners?
How will you overcome these challenges?
➢ This LRs in the portals are very important to both teachers and learners. The big
challenge here is the use of internet connection. Both portals in order to access the
website needs an internet. We may also know how to navigate this portal in order to
maximize its use.
3. What support will you need to be able to maximize the use of the LR Portals? From whom can
you get this support?
➢ To maximize the use of these LR portals we need technical and financial support.
We can get this support from the Department of Education down to our school for
additional budget for the connectivity and with the support of our School head and
colleagues.
ACTIVITY 2.
In your next LAC Session, share and discuss your answers to the questions in Activity 1. Explore
how you can help and support each other in using the LR portals. Jot down the insights and
helpful information regarding the use of the LR portals in your Study Notebook.
➢ We can create a technical support team by choosing people who have ICT skills to
help those teachers who are not so accustomed to such technicalities. For mutual
benefit, those who are not so skilled in using computers may concentrate on the
writing of weekly home learning plan and preparation of activities for the learners.
This way, both can benefit from each other with less burden and less ranting.
Adapting to new normal does not mean that one person who is not so skilled in
technology should become instantly a computer expert. We may all play different
important roles in adapting to new normal in order to succeed in this time of
pandemic.
LESSON 3: ASSESSING THE LR MATERIALS
ACTIVITY 1.
Study the LR Rapid Assessment Tool. Download an LR from either DepEd Commons or LRMDS
Portal and assess the material using the tool. Answer the following questions in your Study
Notebook:
RAPID ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING RESOURCES
Title: AP Unang Markahan – Modyul 2: Mga Pangunahing Pansariling Pangangailangan
Materials Evaluated:
3. Are there other aspects of the material not covered by the tool but still need to be assessed?
Specify which aspect/s.
➢ None.
4. How does this exercise help you in picking the right and appropriate LRs for your lesson and
your learners?
➢ I can now easily choose the LR that are appropriate to my learners’ level, interests,
gender and other needs. These activities helped me to become familiar on the
available resources found in our DepEd LR Portals.
ACTIVITY 2.
Explore other non-DepEd LR portals/platforms you can find online. Take note of the portals in
your Study Notebook. Download at least one LR from each portal. Assess the materials using the
same tool and answer the following questions in your Study Notebook:
1. Based on the Assessment Tool, how does the material from a non-DepEd Portal compare with
the LR from the DepEd Portal?
➢ Material from LR Portal is more reliable rather than on material found in non-DepEd
portal. Material from LR Portal really suites to the learners’ needs. It motivates
learners to study the lesson on their own because the words used in this material is
easy to understand. The instructions are easy to follow and shows differentiated
activities. Skills of pupils disregard their gender can develop gradually. Because of
the different activities, learners cannot be bored.
2. Based on the results of the Assessment Tool, what improvements do the materials — both
from DepEd and Non-DepEd portals — still need?
➢ The Non-DepEd Portals and DepEd Portals are both useful to us. We must just
study the appropriate lessons that suits to our learners’ needs.
3. How does this exercise help you in picking the right and appropriate LRs for your lesson and
your learners?
➢ It is a big help because now I know where I can get a validated, and reliable
materials for my pupils that will ensure the mastery level of my learners. I can refer
my learners to visit on these websites too and join for digital SLM.
ACTIVITY 3.
Choose one of the LR materials that you have developed. Assess this material using the same
tool. Answer the following questions in Your Study Notebook:
RAPID ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING RESOURCES
Materials Evaluated: Owned CIP
Title: PAKGANRN (Pagbasa Ay Kailangan, Gabayan Non-Readers Natin)
Is the LR Material... YES NO Cannot be determined
1. How does your material compare with the ones that are obtained from the online portals?
➢ We need to improve our own group developed CIP materials. Some of the pictures
we used is downloaded so it is not safe for wide distribution while materials from LR
portals are originally made and free from plagiarism.
2. What improvements do you still need to make in your developed material?
➢ This CIP should be made available offline or online for easy dissemination. And
maybe if possible, made a video lesson.
ACTIVITY 4.
Share and discuss your answers to the questions in Activities 1, 2, and 3 in your next LAC
Session. Jot down insights and information that can be useful to you in choosing the appropriate
LRs
➢ They are extremely useful however as educators we have to contextualize, now and
then even diminish the exercises when they are excessively difficult for the students
to achieve. We can generally improve the learning materials to suit the student's
needs.
