1.1 Introduction

A bank is a financial institution that accepts deposits from the public and creates credit. Lending
activities can be performed either directly or indirectly through capital markets. Due to their
importance in the financial stability of a country, banks are highly regulated in most countries.
Most nations have institutionalized a system known as fractional reserve banking under which
banks hold liquid assets equal to only a portion of their current liabilities. In addition to other

exposure of the credit risk within appropriate parameters. The credit risk exposure of the whole

4.1 Ratio Analysis of Southeast Bank PLC

For bank performance and evaluation of Southeast bank PLC and Jamuna Bank PLC I will analyze

will consist of –
a) Return on Equity (ROE)

c) Net Interest Margin (NIM)
d) Earnings Per Share (EPS)
e) Net Profit Margin (NPM)

The amount of net income returned as a percentage of shareholders equity. Return on equity
measures a corporation's profitability by revealing how much profit a company generates with the
money shareholders have invested. ROE is expressed as a percentage and calculated as:

Interpretation

ROE is very popular ratio toward the shareholders of any bank. The higher the percentage
is the better for the bank as well as for shareholders. From the table we can see that Return
on equity of SEBL was increased continuously from 2020 to 2023 then decreased in
2024. In 2024 it was 12.93 million and in 2023 it was 14.80 million. To improve the ratio,
SEBL has to increase its net income (NI) more than average common stock-holders
equity. JBL from the table we can see that Return on equity was decreased continuously
from 2020 to 2021 then increased in 2022 to 2023. In 2024 it was 9.91 million and in

average common stock-holders equity.

4.1 b) Return on Asset (ROA)

The rate of return on asset (ROA) measures the ability of management to utilize the real and
financial resources of the bank to generate returns. Return on asset is most commonly used
to evaluate bank management. Calculated by dividing a company's annual earnings by its
total assets, ROA is displayed as a percentage. The formula for return on assets is:

Return on Asset = Net Income/Total Assets

Returns on asset of Southeast Bank and Jamuna Bank Year from 2020 to Year 2024 are given
below:

Year 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024

to its debt situations. A negative value denotes that the firm did not make an optimal decision,
because interest expenses were greater than the amount of returns generated by investments.

more profitable and the company has more profits to distribute to its shareholders. Here, SEBL
in 2021 EPS increased but in 2024 EPS was 1.64.

On the other hand JBL EPS also increased in 2021 but in 2024 it goes down. Here SEBL was in
good position .

Net profit margin ratio establishes a relationship between net income and operating income that
indicates management efficiency in providing services, administrating and selling the product. A
higher profit margin ratio indicates a higher margin safety and lower risk for the organization and

I have begun with the account opening department. Here I have learned the procedure of opening
an account and the documents that are required for opening an account and all sorts of accounts

some customers.
➢ Discipline is essential in the banking industry to provide smooth and satisfying customer
experience

5.3 Overall Learning as an Intern

Collaboration : Banks that wish to succeed in today’s competitive business environment can’t
solely rely on a few leaders but should find ways to collaborate. It is crucial to understand that the
most exceptional progress and effective decision making is boosted by the collaboration of many
minds. That’s why I along with my teammates have gone through the collaboration for effective
decision making. When a problem arose, we used to look for innovative ideas considering the
regulations. We also kept in mind about the security issues while working as it is the most
important part of the banking sector.

Time Management : Time management is a crucial part while trying to reach a goal. I used to
schedule my tasks and deadlines. By organizing my workspace, I used to manage time too. I used
to stick to the daily schedule. To-do lists can be productive while prioritizing tasks. Keeping things
organized also helped me a lot while working.

Analyzing Issues : While solving a problem I along with my team used to analyze the problem
and identify the probable solution to solve the certain problem. Validity check of customers for
the transacting process is very important. When a problem used to occur I along with my team
analyzed the problem and tried to bring the optimal way to solve the problem.

Despite the fact that my internship was only three months long but I learned many lessons that I
will carry with me forever. This practical orientation program helped me gain knowledge of
practical banking and compare theoretical knowledge with practical knowledge. I tried to cover
all activities of general banking which I got the chance to gather practical experience for the
internship program. Because of time restriction it was not possible to go to the depth of each
activity. However, Best effort has been given to accomplish the Internship program.

6.2 Recommendation
In the banking sector in Bangladesh, SEBL is one of the growing banks. A small branch is the
R.K. Mission Road Branch of Southeast Bank PLC. Working at Southeast Bank Limited was a
delightful experience. The bank's employees were very helpful and professional. Despite this,
within the very short duration of the practical training program, it was not an easy task to find too
many items. The suggestions given are just individual opinion to enhance the service of the
customer in order to meet the satisfaction of the customers so that Southeast Bank PLC is operation
can be become easier. Recommendations are given below:

❖ Promotion to build a good brand image should be emphasized, because there is no

alternative to promoting the brand in today's world.
❖ Build more customized credit management parameters.

SEBL is a 2nd generation founded commercial bank, but in a short period of time it establishes a
strong reputation. Southeast Bank PLC is responsible for raising the standard of living of a certain
particular population and embracing the Market Finance Country and short term loan. Southeast
Bank PLC’s financial position is good. The standard of loans and deposits is higher than that of
most private commercial banks in Bangladesh. The Credit Facility provided by Southeast Bank

Transaction ATM Cards, Credit Cards and Southeast Bank PLC telephone banking provide
customers with 24-hour banking facilities from their accounts.

6.3 Conclusion
The purpose of the report is to assess the Southeast Bank PLC’s credit risk management. Credit
risk awareness was an important matter for each bank. Unless banks are able to recover the money
they have given, the financial inability will eventually result and their day-to-day operations will
be stopped.

In order of statistical significance operating expenses are of a supreme importance in affecting the
profitability, providing support to the argument that their high ratio lowers efficiency and
profitability. Banks tend to be more profitable when they are able to undertake more lending
activities, yet due to the credit quality of lending portfolios, a higher level of provision is needed.
Banks need to improve profitability by improving screening and monitoring of credit risk. Finally,
concerning the fact that the impact of bank size does not significantly determine bank profitability
indicates that large banks in the industry have not significantly enjoyed economies of scale.

We can say that SEBL should do their best to keep up their impact extents as all of these extents
show that they have very high impact and thusly, they also have a higher peril. Other than this,
they need to grow the proportion of significant worth capital as a great deal of impact may be
identified with more danger and besides, it shows the bank's financial deficiency. Finally, it might
be said that SEBL's general execution was satisfactory.
