Different Types of Computers

Task 1

Arrange the arrows so they provide a link between the correct names for the
different types of computers.

In the table below you should describe, in as much detail as you can, the
characteristics of each type of computer.
Use the course website and notes to help you to do this but make sure that

Description: a personal or micro-mini computer sufficient to fit
on a desk. A desktop computer is a type of computer that stays
in a single location. It is placed on the desk or table. It is not
portable.
Advantages:
● is done easily on a desktop computer because of the
large keyboard.
● The computer has high disk space so a lot of
Desktop PC information can be stored on the PC.
● Teachers and students can learn and improve their skills
by using a desktop computer.
Disadvantages:
● It is expensive to buy a desktop computer.
● Desktop computer is not portable like a laptop.
● It requires extra space to place and also you will need a
dedicated room to place a desktop computer.
Mainframe Description: A very large and expensive computer capable of
supporting hundreds, or even thousands, of
users simultaneously. In the hierarchy that starts with a
simple microprocessor (in watches, for
example) at the bottom and moves to supercomputers at the
top, mainframes are just below
supercomputers. In some ways, mainframes are more powerful
than supercomputers because
they support more simultaneous programs. But
supercomputers can execute a single program
faster than a mainframe.
Advantages:
● These computers are better in performance and are
reliable.
● They are scalable in the sense that more hardware i.e.
processors and memory can be added if needed.
● The security of these computers is very high.
Disadvantages:
● Expensive.
● It needs a large space and also the temperature of the
place should not be hot.
● These computers have a very high maintenance.

Description: Personal Digital Assistant(PDAs) are among the


most recent contraptions that great many educated clients
need to utilize and claim.
Advantages:
Personal Digital ● It is very convenient to use.
Assistant ● It can automate repetitive tasks.
● It can help stay organized by keeping track of to-do list.
Disadvantages:
● High Cost.
Description: a portable computer complete with an integrated
screen and keyboard. It
is generally smaller in size than a desktop computer and larger
than a notebook computer.
A laptop may be a pc that will be easily carried to a variety
of locations. It’s also called a transportable pc.

Advantages:
Laptop ● Easy to use
● durable
● Portability

Disadvantages:

● Costly as compared to PC.


● Fragile
Description: A Notebook is a smaller version of a desktop
computer which is small and compact.
Advantages:
● Speed
● Screen Size
Notebook ● Portability
Disadvantages:
● Cost
● Battery life
● Limited features
