Lesson Plan
Class:VIII DateFrom: 12.05.2025 To: 21/05/2025 Subject:Mathematics
Name of the Chapter/Unit: Linear Equation in One Variable No. of Periods Required:08
Students will be able to identify a linear equation, understand Remarks
Learning Objectives its components (variable, coefficients, constants), and
recognize its general form (ax + b = 0).
They should grasp the concept of a variable and its role in
determining the solution of the equation.
Transposition: Moving terms from one side of the equation to
the other while maintaining balance.
Expected Learning Students will be able to understand and solve linear equations
Outcomes in one variable. This includes identifying variables, constants,
and like terms in an equation, applying the rules of arithmetic
operations to isolate the variable, and solving for its value.
They should also be able to formulate linear equations from
word problems and real-life situations

Integration of Arts Worksheets
Linear equation sculptures: Use manipulative, such as blocks
or clay, to create three-dimensional representations of linear
equations.
Connecting Variables and constants: Review the concept of variables and
Previous Knowledge constants, and explain how they are used in linear equations.
Simple equations: Build on students' experience with simple
equations by introducing linear equations with variables on one
side.
Number patterns: Use number patterns to illustrate the
relationship between variables and constants in linear
equations.
Content / Teaching Introduction of Linear Equation
Points Solving Equations having the Variable on one side
Solving Equations having the Variable on both Sides
Reducing Equations to Simpler Form
Project/ Activity : "Balance the Equation" (Hands-on Model)
Enrichment/ Objective: To understand the concept of balancing equations using
Experiential/Learni a physical model.
ng Materials:
Activity A hanger (clothes hanger) or a simple seesaw toy.
Small, identical objects (e.g., marbles, erasers, paper clips,
coins of the same denomination).
Small paper cups or pouches.
Paper slips/chits.
Task:
1. Set Up:
o Imagine the hanger/seesaw as an "equals" sign.
o Label one side "LHS" (Left Hand Side) and the
other "RHS" (Right Hand Side).
2. Representing Variables:
o Take a few paper cups/pouches. Each cup/pouch
will represent your unknown variable 'x'. You can
write 'x' on them.
3. Representing Constants:
o The identical objects (marbles, erasers) will
represent constant numerical values. Decide on a
value for each object (e.g., 1 marble = 1 unit).
4. Model the Equations:
o Start Simple:
Model x+3=5. Place one cup on the LHS
and 3 marbles. On the RHS, place 5
marbles.
Explain how you would find the value of 'x'
by removing marbles from both sides to
keep the balance.
o More Complex:
Model 2x+1=x+4. Place two cups and one
marble on the LHS. Place one cup and four
marbles on the RHS.
Demonstrate the steps to solve the equation
by moving cups and marbles, maintaining
the balance.
5. Create Your Own:
o Create and model at least 3-4 different linear
equations using your balance.
o Take pictures of your balanced equations at
different stages of solving (if possible).
Submission:
Write down the equations you modeled and the step-by-
step process of solving them using your balance.
If you took pictures, paste them in your notebook or create
a small collage.
Write a short paragraph explaining what you learned about
balancing equations from this activity.
