 What is meant by this word?

b. Establishing Lesson Purpose

Lesson Purpose
The teacher will show a picture of an organization.

 What can you see

and say on the picture?
 Who are these group of people?
 What are they doing?

Problem Opener:

A civic organization would like to help a school needing chairs for their pupils. Each of the 243 member
volunteers will donate 2 chairs.
 How many chairs will be donated in all?
 How will you get the total number of donated chairs?
 From the responses, which will give you the answer easily? Why ?
 What is the answer to the problem?

Today we will learn about strategies in multiplying numbers.

UNLOCKING OF CONTENT AREA VOCABULARY

B. Developing and SUB-TOPIC 1. Multiplying 3 to 4 -Digit by 1- Digit Numbers Without Regrouping
Deepening
Understanding The teacher will show three ways on how to multiply numbers by:
 Use of pictorial Representation
 Using Expanded form.
 Use of standard form

Worked Examples
a. Find 102 X 4 ( use of pictorial = 1000
representation)

= 100

= 10

=1
b. 102 X 4 ( find product using expanded form)
1. The teacher will express 102 in expanded form.
102 X 4 = ( 100 + 0 + 2)
2. By Distributive property we can have ,
102 X 4= (100x4) + ( 0X4) + ( 2 X 4)
= 400 + 0 + 8
= 408
So, 102 x 4 = 408
c. 102 X 4 ( use standard form)

1 0 2

X 4
4 0 8

The teacher will use arrow to guide the learners in doing the multiplication in standard form.

Lesson Activity 1 (Individual Activity)

Now, the teacher will give the following worked examples to the learners the 4 digits x 1 digit .
d. Find the product of 3241 x 2 using pictorial representation
e. 4, 132 x 2 (use expanded form)
f. 3210 x 3 ( use standard form)

Lesson Activity 2 ( Group Activity)

The teacher will group the learners into 3 groups. Each group should have a leader, a
reporter and secretary. Each group will be given an envelope contain an activity sheet.
They will be given 5 minutes to finish their activity.
