PROPOSED ACADEMIC ELECTIVE February 2025

PRE-CALCULUS 1

Course Description: This Pre-Calculus course equips learners with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in preparation for
taking Calculus courses, fostering critical and analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Through a comprehensive exploration of
conic sections, systems of nonlinear equations, functions including exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric, learners will
demonstrate a deep understanding of mathematical principles and their real-world applications. Learning experiences include
analyzing and solving complex problems, justifying solutions through logical reasoning, constructing proofs, and communicating
mathematical ideas effectively using appropriate representations.

As a prelude to calculus for higher education courses, learners will translate real-life context into mathematical models using
appropriate digital tools and technology. Equipped with 21st century skills, they will be able to apply their knowledge and understanding
of mathematics preparing them for future academic endeavors and professional careers in diverse fields including engineering,
computer science, economics, statistics, finance, physics, and other sciences.
