Question 1:
The Grammar-Translation Method (GTM), traditionally used for
teaching foreign languages, focuses on explicit grammar instruction and
translation exercises. In Vietnamese primary school English teaching
context, GTM can be applied in several ways, though it may require
adaptation to suit young learners.
1. Grammar Explanation in Vietnamese
 Teachers introduce English grammar rules using Vietnamese
explanations to ensure comprehension.
Example: Teaching past tense by explaining its structure and usage in
Vietnamese before providing English examples.
2. Translation Exercises
 Students translate sentences between English and Vietnamese to
reinforce vocabulary and grammar.
Example: Translating simple sentences like "I have a cat” → "Tôi có
một con mèo."
3. Reading and Writing Focus
 GTM emphasizes reading comprehension and writing accuracy
over speaking and listening.
Example: Students read short English passages, translate them, and
answer comprehension questions.
4. Vocabulary Memorization
 Word lists with Vietnamese meanings help students build
vocabulary systematically.
Example: Learning colors by memorizing: red = màu đỏ, blue = màu
xanh dương.
5. Challenges and Adaptations
 Limited Speaking Practice: GTM does not prioritize oral
communication, which is essential for young learners.
 Engagement Issues: Primary students may find translation
exercises less engaging compared to interactive methods.
 Integration with Communicative Approaches: To balance GTM,
teachers can incorporate games, songs, and role-playing to enhance
speaking skills.
6. Example of GTM in Action
A teacher introduces “simple present tense” by explaining its rules in
Vietnamese. Students then translate sentences like:
- She goes to school every day. → Cô ấy đi học mỗi ngày.
- I like apples. → Tôi thích táo.
After translation, students complete a worksheet identifying verbs in the
present tense, reinforcing grammar understanding.

Question 2:
These are my ideas of instructions for 4th Grade Students:
 Read the text carefully to understand what fossils are, where they
can be found, and how you can see them. Pay attention to any
examples given.
 Look at the questions in the activity. They ask you to decide if
each statement is true or false based on what you've read.
 Go back to the text and find the parts that talk about fossils, their
locations, and whether they can be bought or not.
 Think about each statement carefully and decide if it matches the
information in the text.
 Write “T” (True) or “F” (False) next to each statement based on
what you learned.
