Subject: English Literature (Paper 2)

Based on: Macbeth, Prism, and Rhapsody

Marks: 20

Objective:

To enhance your understanding of literary texts and prepare you for ISC board questions
through analysis, reflection, and creative expression.

PART A: TEXTUAL ANALYSIS

Choose any one of the following sections and attempt all tasks under it:

Option 1: Drama – Macbeth

Character Sketch: Write a detailed character analysis of Lady Macbeth or Macbeth (500
words).

Theme Exploration: Explain how the theme of ambition or fate vs free will is presented in
the play.

Scene Analysis: Select an important scene and explain how it contributes to the plot,
character development, and mood.

Option 2: Prose – Prism (Short Stories)

Choose any one story from Prism (e.g., “Salvatore” by Somerset Maugham):

Summarize the story in your own words.

Discuss the main theme of the story.

Reflect: What did the story teach you about human emotions or society?

Option 3: Poetry – Rhapsody

Choose any one poem from Rhapsody (e.g., “The Darkling Thrush” by Thomas Hardy):

Write a critical appreciation (central theme, poetic devices, tone, relevance).

Identify two major poetic devices and explain their effect.

What is the mood of the poem and how does it reflect the poet’s message?

PART B: CREATIVE EXPRESSION


Choose any one:

1. Diary Entry/Monologue from the perspective of a Macbeth character (e.g., Lady


Macbeth's guilt).

2. Rewrite the ending of a short story from Prism with a different twist.

3. Write an original poem inspired by any theme from Rhapsody (like death, hope, love,
nature, war).

PART C: PRACTICE BOARD QUESTIONS

Answer any two questions as per ISC pattern:

1. Explain with reference to context (Pick a quote from Macbeth or any poem and explain
the context and meaning – 120–150 words).

2. “Macbeth’s downfall was a result of his own choices.” – Discuss.

3. “The short stories in Prism reveal subtle truths about life.” – Justify with an example.

Presentation Guidelines:

Handwritten or typed (as per school instructions)

Use a ruled A4 project file or folder

Title page with your name, roll no., school, and project title

Clear headings and spacing

Creative touches (borders, diagrams, images) encouraged for presentation marks
