If you’d like to improve your English, one thing you can do is to build up your vocabulary. In order to do
this, you have to practice a lot. I’m afraid there is not a shortcut for this, but there are many effective
ways. First of all, you should read a lot. You can read short stories, comics, newspapers, magazines, etc.
depending on your English level. As you read, you can try to guess the meanings of unknown words from
the context of sentences. If you cannot, then look up the deTinition in a dictionary. English to English
dictionary should be your Tirst choice and keep the translator as last.
Another way of building vocabulary is to watch movies in English which will also help with
pronunciation. Try to be involved with the language as much as you can. Keep a vocabulary notebook
and write down a few words each day. Keep in mind that you have to revise them regularly. In my
opinion, to communicate with people all you need is words. Even if you just say the words one after
another, people most likely will understand what you mean regardless of the order of the words and
grammar.

TEENAGERS AND SMARTPHONES
Everyone knows that smartphones are very useful and, today, most of my friends at school have one
in their hands all the time. Watch a group of teenagers, and you will find that instead of talking to each
other, most of us are texting on our smartphones. Teenagers are always texting, and all this messaging
can give us Teen Texting Tendonitis which makes the hands, back and neck hurt.
Having a smartphone makes teenagers want to spend all day talking or texting, instead of doing
things that we are supposed to do, such as our homework. Teens who spend too much of their time with
their phones are always tired; they also start having other problems. In some cases, they may have
headaches. This happens because most teens keep their smart phones near them while sleeping, so that
they can answer texts and calls. They often feel they have to be available around the clock.
Using texting all the time as a way of communication can also make us teens worry a lot. Answering
all my friends' texts can make me happy because it makes me feel popular. However, if any of my friends
take a long time to send back a text, then I can feel very sad.

The price of holidays can fluctuate a great deal throughout the year, so you can save a lot if you are
flexible with your travel dates and avoid peak holiday times. It can be also cheaper if you book well in
advance. Before your departure, make sure you get as much information about your destination as you
can. Find out if you require any special visas or permits to travel there. Think about spending money as
well. Will you be able to access your own money easily enough or will you need to take cash with you?
Think about eating larger lunches and smaller evening meals to help your money go further, as lunch is
generally cheaper. Make sure that you keep sufficient identification with you at all times. It may also help
to email a copy of your passport details to yourself, in case it is lost or stolen. Label your suitcases clearly

31
so that they can be easily identified as yours. It can be useful to store a copy of your itinerary in a
prominent place in your suitcase so that the airline will know where to find you if your luggage gets lost.
Be sure to pack any medication or other essential items in your hand luggage. If your flight is delayed or
your luggage is lost, these can be difficult to obtain in an airport or a foreign country.

Exercise can be fun!

Exercise has become a huge part of our world. There are gyms everywhere, but if you're not keen
on them, there are hundreds of exercise videos to choose from. Exercise is good for you. It makes you
feel better, look better and can help you live longer.
But what happens if you are the kind of person who would do anything rather than spend five
minutes on an exercise bike, including cleaning the house, visiting a boring relative or watching a terrible
TV programme? If you are that kind of person, you need a plan!
First of all, decide when you are going to exercise. Choose three times a week, like me. Write
EXERCISE in your diary, on your calendar, on the wall if necessary! Then make sure you do it. Don't do
anything else. I never make other arrangements.
Next, vary what you do. I went to the same aerobics class for two years! No wonder I was bored!
Now I use different machines at the gyms, I often change my jogging route and I never do aerobics.
Make exercise fun and find an exercise you enjoy. Why not play a sport, or join a dance class? I
recently started a modern dance class. It's great fun and I've met lots of new people, but as soon as I get
bored I'll find something else!

ROBOT TEACHERS

46
If you think of the jobs that robots could never do, you probably put doctors and teachers at the top
of the list. However, in some cases robots already perform better than doctors at diagnosing illness. Also,
some patients might feel more comfortable sharing personal information with a machine than with a
person. Could there be a place for robots in education after all?
British education expert Anthony Seldon thinks so. He predicts by 2027 robots will do the main job
of transferring information and teachers will be like assistants. Intelligent robots will read students’
faces, movements and maybe even brain signals. Then they will adapt the information to each student.
It’s not a popular opinion and it’s unlikely robots will ever have empathy and the ability to really connect
with humans like another human can.
Teachers all over the world are leaving because it is a difficult job and they feel overworked. Perhaps
the question is not ‘Will robots replace teachers?’ but ‘How can robots help teachers?’ Office workers
can use software to do things like organise and answer emails, arrange meetings and update calendars.
Teachers waste a lot of time doing non-teaching work, including more than 11 hours a week marking
homework. If robots could cut the time teachers spend marking homework and writing reports, teachers
would have more time and energy for the parts of the job humans do best.

Solar power has become one of the most important alternative energy when people are running out of
natural resources like coal, oils, or forests due to many reasons. First, it is a non-polluting and abundant
source of energy. It does not pollute the air by releasing harmful gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide,
or sulfur oxide. So, the risk of damage to the environment is reduced. More importantly, solar energy can
be used to produce electricity as long as the sun exists and of course, sunlight is available everywhere.
In addition, to generate electricity from solar power, people only need some solar panels, which are easy
