CBSE Test Paper 04
CH-12 Herons Formula

Solution

1. (b) 24
Explanation:

Side = cm

half diagnoal = cm

diagnoal = cm

Area = cm2

2. (b) 2448 sq cm
Explanation: Let the two adjacent sides of the parallelogram be a = 74 cm, b = 40 cm

Let the length of diagonal be c = 102cm

These two sides and the diagonal forms a triangle

semi perimeter, s = (a + b + c) / 2

s= (74+40+102)/2

=216/2

=108 cm

By Heron's formula, we have area of triangle =

Area of triangle =

= 1224

therefore, area of paralleogram=1224*2

= 2448 sq cm
3. (a) 0.003
Explanation:

s= = 15 cm

Area of triangle =

= 30 sq. cm

= 0.003 sq. m

4. (d) 43.3
Explanation:

Area of equilateral trianlge =

= 43.3 sq. cm

5. (b)
Explanation: s = = 10 cm

Area of triangle =

= sq. cm

6. 4

7. 10

8. Let equal sides of given isosceles triangle be b cm.

Perimeter of the triangle,
2s = b + b + 5 [ 2s = a + b + c]
11 = 2b + 5 2b = 11 - 5
2b = 6 b= = 3 cm
Now we have, 2s = 11
s = 5.5 cm
Area of isosceles triangle =
=

= 4.14 cm2

9. Area of equilateral triangle

Hence the area of equilateral triangle is .

10.

Let ABC be the right-angled triangle right angled at B.

Let O be the centre of the circumcircle.
O is the mid-point of the hypotenuse AC.
OA = OB = OC = radius of the circumcircle = 3 cm.
Hypotenuse AC = Diameter of the circle.
=2 radius of the circmumcircle
=2 3 = 6 cm.
Let BM be the perpendicular from B on AC.
BM = 2 cm
Area of the right angled triangle ABC
= Base Altitude
= AC BM

= 6 2 = 6 cm2

11. Let's find area of triangle,

Area of triangle = Area of parallelogram
Semi-perimeter of triangle (s) =42 cm
Using Heron’s formula,
Area of triangle =
=
=

= 336 cm2
According to question, Area of parallelogram = Area of triangle
Base Corresponding height = 336
28 Height = 336
Height = 12 cm

12. Let a=18 cm, b=10 cm

Perimeter =42cm

So, C=14 cm
= 21 cm
new area of triangles

13. The diagonal AC divides the quadrilateral ABCD into two triangles ABC and ACD.
Area of quad. ABCD = Area of ABC + Area of ACD
For ABC, we have
s= = 11 cm
Area of ABC =
Area of ABC = = =
sq.cm

Area of ABC = 20.98 cm2

For ACD, we have,
s= = 18 cm
Area of ACD =
Area of ACD = = 54 sq.units

Hence, Area of quad. ABCD = (20.98 + 54) cm2 = 74.98 cm2

14. Here, sides of each of 10 triangular pieces of two different colours are 20 cm, 50 cm
and 50 cm.

Semi-perimeter of each triangle = = 60 cm

Now, Area of each triangle =
=
=
=
According to question, there are 5 pieces of red colour and 5 pieces of green colour.
Cloth required for 5 red pieces =
And Cloth required to 5 green pieces = =

15. Let ABC be the right triangle right angles at C.

a = 126 m . . . (1)
In right triangle ACB.

AB2 = AC2 + BC2 . . .[By Pythagoras theorem]

c2 = a2 + b2
c= . . .(2)
c – b = 42 . . .(3)
- b = 42 . . .[From (2)]
- b = 42 . . .[From (1)]
= (42+b)

(126)2 + b2 = (42 + b)2

15876 + b2 = 1764 + b2 + 84b

84b = 15876 – 1764
84 b = 14112
b=
b = 168 m . . . (4)
From (3) and (4)
c – 168 = 42
c = 168 + 42 = 210 m . . . (5)
Area of the right triangle = base height
= 126 168

= 10584 m2
Using Heron's Formula
a = 126 m, b = 168 m, c = 210 m
s=
= = = 252 m
Area of the right triangle
=
=
=
=

= 63 2 2 42 = 10584 m2
