APPROVED GUIDELINES FOR INTRA-MURAL RESEARCH GRANT

Research is an integral part of development of Science and Medicine. Most


often funds for carrying out research are obtained from national/international
funding agencies (extra-mural research grant). In order to encourage post
graduate students, Lecturers, Lecturers in Sr. Scale and Readers to undertake
minor/pilot research projects relevant to health sector, the college proposes to
launch a scheme of providing Intra-Mural Research Grant (IMRG) to facilitate
experimentation of novel ideas. Efforts should be made by the concerned teacher
that after the initial sanction of funds from intra-mural source, the project can be
taken up for in-depth study with extra-mural funding agencies. The guidelines
proposed are as follows:

1. A maximum amount of Rs.25,000/- for each proposal in one Financial


Year will be sanctioned under the Scheme. A maximum of 20
proposals will be sanctioned in one year. Regular faculty members can
submit only one proposal through Head of the Department in a year.
The proposals from first year postgraduate students would be
forwarded through their respective Chief Supervisor as well as through
Head of the Department. H/D will forward to Principal within 3 working
days with comments whether or not there is enough space in the
department. The amount sanctioned shall be utilized only for
procurement of consumables e.g. – chemicals, diagnostic kits and for
data collection (in case of field studies), electrodes and minor
accessories repair/maintenance. No hiring of person or undertaking
travel grant for attending conferences/workshop, printing of thesis,
photocopy binding etc. will be permitted. Equipments costing up to
Rs.10,000/- may be procured subject to non-availability of such item in
the department.

2. The proposal shall consist of:


i) Title
ii) Introduction and relevance/justification.
iii) Brief review
iv) Aims & Objectives
v) Material & Methods
vi) Budget proposal with break-up

3. Six copies of the proposal shall be submitted by 31 st October to


Research Cell of the College through Head of the Department. Ethical
Committee will meet shortly after last day of proposals recommended
by the IMRG Committee for clearance. In case of post-graduate thesis
proposals, clearance obtained from Ethical Committee will hold good
for purposes of IMRG.

4. A Committee constituted by the Principal consisting of –

- Faculty from Pre-Clinical


- Faculty from Para-Clinical
- Faculty from Clinical and
- One member from Research Cell will be nominated as
Chairperson of the Committee. The IMRG Committee will
scrutinize the proposals and recommend the award of
Intra-mural Research Grant to Principal. The Committee
shall meet in the Ist week of November, and submit the
recommendations by 3rd week of November. The sanction
letters will be issued by the 30 th November and the funds
will be released only in the name of Faculty
Member/Supervisor for PG subject to clearance by the
Ethical Committee.

5. The Faculty Member/PG Supervisor will follow the procedure for


purchase of minor equipments, consumables as follows:

Up to Rs.5,000/- - Without calling quotation


Above Rs.5,000/- - Limited rate enquiry or rate contract
Of the College

The minor equipments thus procured through IMRG grant be entered in


the stock register of the department.

6. At the end of one year, the applicant/proposer should submit


Statement of Accounts, Utilization Certificate along with Report of the
Research project incorporating salient results with conclusions through
Head of the Department.

7. If for any reason, the proposer cannot utilize the grant (e.g. going on
EOL, etc.) the money shall be refunded at the earliest with proper
justification to Principal. In such instance, the person concerned shall
be kept low on priority of IMRG grant for the next one financial year. In
case of PG Supervisor, he/she can propose the name of Co-Supervisor
to the Principal to take the responsibility for IMRG.

8. The Research Cell shall maintain the records of total IMRG.

9. In case of CHS teaching faculty, the proposal must be routed through


the Medical Superintendent, GTB Hospital.

10. At the time of retirement/resignation/transfer to other


Institute/proceeding on Extra-ordinary leave the incumbent must take
‘No Dues Certificate’ from the Professor I/c Research Cell of the
College.

11. The Proposal is subject to revision from time to time depending on


availability of funds.
