CHAPTER 1

The problem and its Background

Introduction

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human

intelligence in machines that are programmed to think and learn

like humans. That exhibits traits associated with a human mind

such as learning and problem-solving that AI systems can draw

conclusions and optimize outcomes

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed various sectors,

including education. However, its impact on Grade 12 student’s

learning outcomes and educational experiences remains a concern.

This study investigates the negative effect of artificial

intelligence on the education of Grade 12 students at Alfelor Sr.

Memorial College, Inc.

In the context of Alfelor Sr. Memorial College, Inc.(ASMC), has

implemented AI-enhanced educational tools to improved student

learning outcomes, However, it concerns arise regarding AI’s

potential negative consequences on Grade 12 students as it

diminished critical thinking, problem-solving skills, decrease

motivation and engagement. Grade 12 students, in particular, are

vulnerable to these negative effects as they prepare for higher

education and the workforce.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) also play a crucial roles in life

but at the same time the effects of (AI) can be negative in

peoples life, the researcher is interested to know the reason

behind the bad effects of (AI) that the students in the same

grade experience.

CHAPTER 2

Review of Related Literature and Studies

This chapter presents the review of related literature and

studies. It summarizes professional literature and studies

previously undertaken and opinion of several experts, which were

analytically reviewed to provide more information and insights in

the pursuit of this study. Such related literature and studies

reviewed herein were obtained from different resources, from

printed and local materials and Internets, and were classified

into the following topics: overview the Negative effects of AI,

the factors bad effect of AI influencing the education.

Overview the Negative of AI

According to (ku,2020) the overreliance on AI tools diminishes

critical thinking and problem-solving.

As explained by Sharma Et al.(2024)The technologies that we have

come to know as artificial intelligence (AI), such as machine

learning, deep learning, computer vision, and natural language

processing, are becoming general-purpose tools that significantly

impact organizational and societal economic and social

structures. However, that impact has not been entirely positive.

We have already see many projects where undesirable or negative

Stated by Tinghong Et al.(2023)Artificial intelligence (AI) is

widely used in the field of education at present, but people know

little about its possible impacts, especially on the physical and

mental development of the educated. It is important to explore

the possible Impacts of the application of artificial

intelligence in education (AIEd)in order to avoid the possible

adverse effects. Prior research has focused on theory to the

exclusion of the empirical research was relatively lacking.

According to (Rane, Paramesha, & Desai 2024) The rise of

Artificial Intelligence (AI),particularly language models such as

ChatGPT, has unique challenges to the protection of academic

integrity. AI system are becoming adept at producing human-like

text in ways that present an entirely new array of dilemmas for

higher education: how to effectively deter and respond to

academic dishonesty in an age when students can easily use AI to

complete assignments, write essay, or even answer exam question.

This research elaborates on the changing face of cheating through

AI and examines the implications for the academic institution.

The study take into account new developments and trends in AI-

generated content that blur the line between an original student

work and a machine- produced one, utilizing traditional

plagiarism detection tools that could not reveal the latter. In

addition, it explores ethical considerations associated with the

use of AI in education by weighing the potential benefits that AI

could have as a learning aside against its misuse. The strategy

for academic institution is multifaceted. Except for updating the

honor codes and emphasizing AI literacy among students and

faculties, the institutions should be equipped with advanced AI

detection tools and building a culture of academic integrity. The

integration of these approaches can better enable an institution

to meet the challenges brought forward by AI in the task of

upholding the standard of academic honesty in an increasingly

fast-paced educational environment. The research highlights

proactive approaches to adaptation with regard to the changing

role of AI in education.

While In comparing this two pieces of research, both Knewton,

(2019) and Baker,(2016) emphasize the positive effects of AI, AI

adapts to individual students’ needs, abilities, and learning

styles and AI-powered adaptive learning increases student

motivation and participation.

In Contrast According to Bereiter,(2014) and Kim,(2019)That

prioritizing surface-level knowledge and its diminishing

creativity.
Synthesis of the state of the Art

The Gathered information from the related literature and studies

helps the researchers in determining the negative effects of

Artificial intelligence (AI) on the Education og the Grade 12

Students at Alfelor Sr. Memorial College, Inc. year 2024-2025.

According to Selwyn, N.(2019)Education and digital technologies

in the 21st Century.Educational Philosophy and the Theory

convergence of education and technology should be approached in

an ethical and that the educational ecosystem needs to be

adaptable to produce the skills needed for success in the

digital economy.

According to (kobis, et.al.,2021)as machines powered by

artificial intelligence (AI) influence humans behavior in ways

that are both like and unlike the ways humans influence each

other, worry about the corrupting power of AI agents. That

students has been affected by AI on their behavior when it comes

on education laziness and expectant on AI.

According to (Chen et al.,2020) the purpose of this study was to

assess the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on education.

Premised on a narrative and framework for assessing AI identified

from preliminary analysis, the scope of the study was limited to

the application and effects of AI in administration, instruction,

and learning. A qualitative research approach , leveraging the

use of literature review as a research design and approach was

used and effectively facilitated the realization of the study

purpose. Artificial Intelligence is a field of the study and the

resulting innovations and developments that have culminated in

computers, machines, and other artifacts having human-like

intelligence characterized by cognitive abilities, learning,

adaptability, and decision-making capabilities. The study

ascertained that AI has extensively been adopted and used in

education, particularly by education institutions, in different

forms. AI initially took the form of computer and computer

related technologies, the use of humanoid robots and web-based

chatbots to perform instructors that it helped students to make

their activity in school and make their grades higher to perform.

According to my research review Swearer (2020) in his book

“Teaching in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, swearer

highlights AI”s potential to enhance student learning outcomes,

automate administrative tasks, and provide personalized

education.

On the other hand, Carr (2010) claimed that in his book “The

shallows: What the internet is Doing to our brains” warns about

over-reliance on AI-powered tools, potentially diminishing

critical thinking. According to Turkle (2011) in her books

entitled “Alone Together: Why We Expect More From Technology and

Less from Each Other” she claimed that AI driven education can

lead to social isolation.

Lastly, Greenhow (2020) in her study “Student Experiences with

AI-Enhanced Learning tools”, Greenhow explores how AI affects

students motivation, autonomy and creativity, highlighting

concerns about over-reliance on AI-driven feedback, Diminished

critical thinking skills unequal access to AI-enhanced resources

and according to Holmes (2020) in his books ”Ethics in

Artificial intelligence Education: Exploring the Digital Divide”

Holmes examines AI’s impact on student equity, inclusion and

digital literacy, emphasizing widening achievement gaps, Bias in

AI-driven assessment and students lack of understanding about AI

limitations.
Gap bridge by the study

Limited studies investigate the comprehensive impacts of negative

effects of Artificial Intelligence on education of Grade 12

students at Alfelor Senior Memorial College, Inc. student’s

academic, social and emotional well-being, particularly in

diverse educational this was the gap bridge by this study.

The theoretical Framework

The theoretical framework of this study revolved in determing the

Negative effects of Artificial Intelligence on eduction of grade

12 students of Alfelor Senior Memorial College, Inc.

Artificial Intelligence theory (McCarthy)1956 Artificial

intelligence (AI) in education integrates various theoretical

frameworks, notably constructivist, socio-cultural, and cognitive

learning theories. These theories emphasize active engagement,

personalized learning and social interaction. Key author include

Siemens (2005), Vygotsky (1978), and Luckin et al.(2016). Who

highlight AI’s role in facilitating adaptive learning

environments and managing cognitive load Additionally, Touretzky

et al.(2019) propose five foundational concepts of AI-perception,

representation, reasoning, learning, and social impact to enhance

AI literacy among students.

It provides valuable insights into understanding the negative

effects of Artificial Intelligence on education of Grade 12

Students at Alfelor Sr. memorial College, Inc. this theory

emphasizes the importance of Active learning, Personalized

learning, Social Interaction, and Cognetive load management these

elements collectively aim to enhance education practices of Grade

12 Students.

Theory of Mind (ToM) (Premack and Woodruff) 1978 in artificial

intelligence refers to the capability of AI systems to understand

and predict human mental states, such as beliefs, intentions, and

emotions. This understanding enhances human-machine interactions,

allowing for more intuitive and empathetic communication. Key

authors include Chen et al.(2021)and Vinanzi et al.(2019) who

emphasize ToM’s role in social robotics and virtual assistants,

as it enables machines to better anticipate user needs and

respond appropriately. Cuzzolin et al. (2020) who emphasize the

importance of integrating emotional cognition into AI for ethical

human-machine interactions and Calder et al.(2018), who discuss

the challenges of making AI behaviors interpretable, which is

crucial for effective ToM implementation.

It refers a complementary perspective to understanding the

negative effects of Artificial Intelligence on the education of

Grade 12 students at Alfelor Sr. Memorial College, Inc. In the

context of our thesis , this theory can shed light on how

students evaluate and learn various effects of Artificial

Intelligence on their education. By considering the subjective

value attached to each alternative, students may weigh factors.

Lack of Human interaction Theory (laestadius et al) 2024 in the

context of artificial Intelligence in education it diminished

social skills the reliance on AI can lead to a decrease in face

to face interactions, resulting on weekend social skills and

interpersonal development among students and emotional Disconnect

AI lacks genuine emotional understanding, which can hinder the

ability to respond to student’s emotional needs, reducing the

quality support of they received and Reduce motivation studrnts

may feel less motivated without the personal connections and

encouragement that human teachers provide, leading to

disengagement from learning also lasty isolation and loneliness

it increased use of AI tools can lead to feelings of Isolation,

as a students may substitute human interactions with AI,

negatively impacting their sense belonging and overall well-

being.
Lack of human interaction in the context of AI in education

include (Laestadius et al.) 2024 who explore the implications of

AI relationships replacing human companionship. They build on

previous psychology research by (Pani et al.)2023 highlighting

the potential long-term impacts of AI use on student performance

and emotional well-being.

Research theory

Negative effects of the Artificial Intelligence on education of

Grade 12 students at Alfelor Sr. Memorial College, Inc. Will lead

to formulate and make policy recommendations towards quality of

education

Validity and Reliability of the instrument

The instrument used in this study validated by the sets of

research panelist and involved seeking approval and feedback from

our practical research subject teacher. To ensure the reliability

of our study, we used a standardized self-made research

questionnaire across our participants. This ensured that all our

participants were asked the same questions in the same way, also

we oriented our respondents to answer it honestly. Our research

adviser not only agree to use of the survey questionnaire but

also actively participated in refining it. This collaborative

effort aimed to enhance the instrument for a more robust and

reliable data collection process.

Statistical Treatment of Data

Various statistical tools such as calculating weighted means,

frequency counting, ranking, and determining percentages were

employed to analyze the characteristics of the respondent

profiles.

Frequency count. This was used to tally the answer of the

respondents and determine the percentage of each response.

Percentage Technique. Was used to utilized in quantifying the

demographic profile of the respondents, the formula used in this

study was:

F
P= x100
N

Where: P = percentage

F = frequency (no. of the respondents answer)

N = total number of respondents.

100= constant

Furthermore, to determine the Negative effects of Artifical

Intelligence on the education of Grade 12 students at Alfelor

Senior Memorial College, Inc the statistical tool that was used
is the weighted mean. Some items are called the computation of

the weighted mean to interpret the response.

w×F
WM =
N

Where: WM Weighted mean

W = Weight

F = Frequency

N = Number of respondents
