Swachh Bharat Mission ( Urban) 2.0 – Introduction

• Launched during 75th anniversary of independence on 1st October 2021 by Hon.

Prime Minister of India, on the eve of Swachhata Divas with the ambitious vision of
Garbage Free India by 2026.
• Target to safe reuse of used water (Wastewater) i.e. its collection, conveyance,
treatment, reuse and final disposal.
• Adopt terminology that captures the notion safe and beneficial use of treated water.
• Mission has a reform agenda to enhance city water security, financial health of ULBs
and ease of living of citizens
• Mission period is till FY 2025-26
Swachh Bharat Mission ( Urban) 2.0 – Key features

❖ Used water management for towns less than 1.0 lakh population as a component of SBM-U-2.0

❖ Focus Areas under used water management

i. Setting up of STP- For 70% present population( year 2026)

ii. I&D Structures including pumping stations and pumping/gravity mains

iii. Procuring septic tank desludging equipment –where no Pvt. Operator exist

iv. Sewer network in core sanitation zone (CSZ) , where 50% city pop. reside in 20-30% area of the

city—to be financed by State/ULB /15th FC.
