Ghazal Alagh
Ghazal Alagh (born September 2, 1988)
is an Indian businesswoman, investor,
and artist best known as the co-founder
of MamaEarth, a body care brand.[1] She
is the co-founder and chief innovation
officer at Honasa Consumer Limited,
which is a holding company for various
beauty and personal care brands such as
MamaEarth, Aqualogica, The Derma Co.,
Ayuga, BBlunt, and Dr. Sheth’s. Alagh was
a shark on the first season of the
business reality TV show Shark Tank
India in 2021.[2][3]

Early life and education
Alagh was born and raised in Gurgaon,
Haryana. She was the eldest of three
siblings born to her parents, Kamlesh and
Sunita Sahni. Alagh completed her
primary and secondary education in
Haryana. She graduated with a degree in
computer applications from Punjab
University in 2010. In 2013, she
completed a course in design,
specializing in modern art, applied arts,
and figurative arts, at the New York
Academy of Art.
Career
Alagh started her career in 2008 as a
corporate trainer at NIIT, Chandigarh. She
provided training in software applications
such as Oracle, SQL, and J2ME to
employees at various companies.[4]
In 2012, Alagh established her first
venture, Dietexpert.com, an online
platform offering customised diet plans
tailored to individuals based on age,
lifestyle, weight, and fitness objectives.[5]
In 2016, Ghazal Alagh, alongside her
husband Varun Alagh, established
Honasa Consumer Limited, a holding
company for natural beauty and personal
care brands such as Mamaearth,
Aqualogica, The Derma Co., and Ayuga.[6]
The company later acquired BBlunt and
Dr. Sheth's. With Alagh serving as co-
founder and chief innovation officer,
Honasa achieved unicorn status in 2022,
becoming the first unicorn of that year.
The company went public in November
2023.[7][8]
Motivated by the need for safe and toxin-
free products for their baby, Alagh and
her husband launched Mamaearth in
2016,[9] aiming to provide affordable yet
eco-friendly baby care products.[10]
Mamaearth started with six products,
including rash creams, lotions,
shampoos, massage oils, body washes,
and diapers.[11] Within five years, the
brand expanded to offer 500 products
ranging from baby care to general
wellness and beauty.[12] Mamaearth is
also Asia's sole MADE SAFE certified
brand. In 2017, the company received an
investment from Shilpa Shetty. [13][14]
Alagh appeared as a judge on the Indian
business reality show Shark Tank India in
2021.[15][16]
Alagh is India's top ten women artists,
with her artwork exhibited nationally and
internationally.[17][18]
Awards and recognitions
In 2018–2019, Mamaearth, a brand co-
founded by Alagh, was honored with
the Best Brand of the Year award.
Alagh received recognition as one of
India's top forty achievers under forty
in 2019.
In 2019, she received the Super
Startups Asia Award.
She has been recognized as one of
Business World's 40 Under 40.
Alagh was named Women
Entrepreneur of the Year 2021 by
Entrepreneur India.[19]
Personal life
Alagh resides in Gurgaon, Haryana, with
her husband, Varun Alagh, and their two
sons, Agastya and Ayaan Alagh.[20][21]
