Guidelines for

Preparation and Submission

of

Summer Internship Project

MBA

At

Faculty of Management
GLS University

Introduction:
Summer Internship Programme is an integral part of the academic curriculum of MBA. For
the successful completion of the MBA programme, the students are required to pursue
Summer Internship at the end of second semester for six to eight weeks.

Objectives of Summer Internship:

 To widen the student's perspective by providing an exposure to real life organisational


and management situations.
 To enable the students to explore an industry/ organization.
 To provide valuable knowledge and Networking experience.

An additional benefit that organisations may derive is the unique opportunity to evaluate the
students from a future career perspective. Thus, SIP can become a gateway for final
placement of the students.

Guidelines for SIP:


Students can undertake the project as an Individual or in group (max.2 students)

The SIP process involves working under the mentorship of an executive of the concerned
organisation and also with a faculty member of the institute.

The student is expected to:

 To understand the Organisation and the Industry


 To concentrate on the specific topic of study (objectives, rationale)
 To adopt Research methodology
 To identify a suitable analytical Research Tools
 To provide recommendations and action plans, along with the findings of the study.

Some ideal projects for summer internships can be in the areas of Strategy Formulation,
Business Process Reengineering, MIS, ERP implementation, Retail/investment Banking,
Industry Analysis, New Product Launch, Sales and Distribution, Market Research and
Advertising, Competency mapping, Performance Appraisal, Job Satisfaction etc., among
others. However, this is not an exhaustive list of areas but can be varied to suit the
requirements of the organisations where the student has to undergo internship. In some cases,
even field work can also become an integral part of SIP.

(A) Guidelines for Research Proposal:


An ideal ‘Research Proposal’ document should consist of following areas:

 Brief literature review


 Objectives of study
 Scope of study
 Need of the study
 Research Design
 Data collection Sources
 Sampling plan
 Limitations

(B) Guidelines for Writing the Project:

The assessment of SIP depends crucially on the quality of the report in


terms of clarity and structure. Following is the broad frame work for
outline of project report:

o Index (Chapter No, Content, pg no.)
