India Energy Storage Market Update 2025
India Energy Storage Market Update 2025
Investments
1. ReNEw announced that it will Invest INR22K Crores in RE projects in AP, the project includes a 1.8 GW Solar, 1 GW wind
facility along with 2 GWh of BESS
2. IFC announced participation in financing India’s largest Stationary storage BESS with support from Clean Technology Firm
and Global Energy Storage Program. (Indigrid Gujarat Project)
Policy and Regulatory Enablers
1. In a recent discussion of National Committee on Transmission (NCT), BESS was discussed as an alternative to HVDC line for
Rajasthan, a proposed 6 GW *4.25 Hrs. would cost around INR 21K Crores as against HVDC line (VSC Tech) cost of INR 34K
Cr., further a lifetime cost benefit analysis is directed to be conducted.
Note: Limited to utility scale competitive bid tenders only
2. CTUIL proposed 3 acres/100 MWh as benchmark land requirement for BESS Projects
3. Rajasthan Mandated BESS for Captive projects exceeding 100% contract demand.
4. Forum of Regulators proposed exempting PSPs for electricity duties and cess on input energy for pumping to reduce costs
and promote investments in PSPs. They also suggested extending the waiver on ISTS charges for new PSPs beyond June 30,
2025
As of May 2025, BESS capacity of 500 MWh is operational, with ~0.5 GWh worth capacity expected 29
to come online by Q3-Q4, 2025
