Are you looking for fun centers and activities that you can use with your fairy
tale themed unit that revolves around your favorite fairy tales? Then, you
will love Fairy Tales Themed Unit for Preschool. This unit will not only help
children learn new vocabulary, it will also help them learn and build important
concepts and skills like common themes of fairy tales, name identification,
number identification, increased story comprehension, literacy and math
concepts, fine motor skills and the ability to follow multiple step directions.
This unit is set up for a more structured preschool (kindergarten readiness),
but all of the activities can be adjusted to meet the needs of an open-ended
or home school structure. Fairy Tales Themed Unit for preschool is
recommended for ages 3 ½ to 6.
This unit includes:

What is a Fairy Tale?

• Read Red Riding Hood by James

• Fairy Tales Labels (print and

Activities:
To introduce fairy tales ask the boys
and girls to tell what they already know
about fairy tales. They may name
titles of books etc. Then read, Red
Riding Hood. Talk about the events
of the story. Next, tape the fairy tale
label to your white board with tape or
in a pocket chart. Hand out the cards
to the children and one at a time they
can bring the picture to the front and
identify it. Then, they will pace it
under the label in the pocket chart.

Pigs. Choose a child to come to
the front and point to the title
of the story. Choose another
child to count the total number
of words in the title

• White Flannel Sheets
Print out the Three Little Pig Flannel
Pieces on the Iron on Transfer Paper.
Then Cut around each of the pieces
and iron them to the white flannel
pieces. The boys and girls can help
retell the story using the pieces. You
can also have them discuss, settings,
characters, problems and solutions as
well. Leave the characters in a center
and allow kids to play/retell the story
using the characters.

Blow Down the House with ABC’s
Materials/Prep:
• Blow Down the House with ABC’s
• Wolf Mask (cut out and prepped-

Choose which letters you would like the children to work on-uppercase or
lowercase. Also determine if you want the children to write or trace the
letters and print the matching printables.
To prep the houses: Print the houses on regular copier paper. DO NOT
LAMINATE. To cut out the house, place a cardstock piece of paper behind it
and cut them out at the same time. Glue behind the tab next to the house and
glue the house to the cardstock. Cut out the pigs and glue one pig to each
house. Tape the houses around the room.
Attach the printables to clipboard. Use a piece of yarn to attach a string.
The boys and girls at the center will put on the wolf mask, go to each house
and “Blow” the house down. When they blow on the house it will slightly open
and then will write or trace the letter.

• Falling for Rapunzel book
• Sentence Strip
• Yarn
• Small paper plates
• Blow Down the House Printable
Activities:
First, read the book Falling for
Rapunzel. As you read focus on the
rhymes. Have the boys and girls try to
figure out what Rapunzel will throw out
of her window.
Next, the boys and girls
will estimate how long
Rapunzel’s hair was
using yarn.
Finally, now that boys and girls
know that Rapunzel has stairs,
she no longer needs her long hair.
They will create this Rapunzel
craft.

Then, the boys and girls will play

2. Then, they can glue the cotton
balls to the top of the tube.
3. Next they can count how many
letters are in their name and write
the letter on the gold coins.
4. Then, they can cut out the gold
coins and trace the circle with
glitter glue.
5. Finally they can glue the coins in
order down the beanstalk.

• Beanstalk Game Board
• Dice
• Jewels
• Paper Binders
Prep:
• Print and laminate the gameboard and assemble.
• Print the players out on cardstock.
• Cut and fold the players in half and clip them with the binder to
create a game piece.
Directions
This is a two-player game. The boys and girls will start at the bottom of
the beanstalk. They will take turns rolling the dice and moving up the
beanstalk. The first one to the top can choose a jewel. They can play
multiple times to collect lots of jewels.

• Contact Solution
• Jewels
Prep:
• Prep the slime: Mix 1 bottle of Glitter Glue handful of
Jewels, 2 TBS of Baking Soda and 1 TBS of Contact
Solution (add baking soda until it is not sticky).
Directions
Place the Slime in a baggie and place in a center. To add a fine motor
aspect to the slime, have the boys and girls press the jewels into the
slime.

Rhyming Time with Rapunzel
Materials/Prep:
• Rapunzel printables Cardstock
(cut out the squares using a razor-
for each child prior to the lesson)
• Each child needs one set of circles

Directions
The boys and girls will cut out the circles. Then, they will use a brass
fastener to hold each circle in place. Finally they will try to find the

Prep:
• Print off the castle and have the boys and girls cut it out.
• Place all of the materials above in a labeled bin at a center.
Directions
First the boys and girls will cut out the castle and color it. Then, they will
choose 1 lima bean and wrap it in a small, wet paper towel. Next, they will
pull apart one cotton ball and glue it to the castle. Finally, an adult will
help them staple the castle to the top if the baggie. Hang them in a
window.
