Period 1: Introduction to Squares of a number and perfect squares (40 minutes)


Topics Covered:
● Introduction of Squares of a number
● Finding the perfect squares
● Patterns of square numbers

0-5 min Introduction & Warm-up –

o Start with a brief discussion on what students know about squares.


o Introduce the concept of squaring a number (multiplying a number by itself).
o Provide examples: 22=2×2=4, 32=3×3=9, etc.

5-15 min Reading & Explanation –

o Define square numbers: A number that is the product of an integer multiplied by itself.
o Discuss the properties of square numbers:
o Positive square numbers: 1,4,9,16,25,…
o Negative square numbers: Every positive square has a negative counterpart.
o Square numbers are always non-negative.

15-25 min Book Exercise Questions: Ex 3A – Q1(ii, iii, iv), Q2(ii, iv, v), Q3(iii, iv), Q4(ii, iii), Q5(iii, iv)
25-35 min Worksheet Practice – Questions related to topic will be discussed from worksheet.
