VC Sir Note For CT and Final Exam

The document provides an overview of refrigeration, defining it as the process of removing heat from low-temperature to high-temperature reservoirs, with applications in food preservation, medical storage, and air conditioning. It outlines various refrigeration systems, including Vapor Compression and Absorption systems, and explains key concepts such as Coefficient of Performance (COP), Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER), and Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER). Additionally, it describes Tons of Refrigeration (TR) as a measure of cooling capacity.

VC SIR NOTE FOR CT AND FINAL EXAM

MD.SHOHEL RANA

Question 1:
What is the basic concept of refrigeration?
Answer:
Refrigeration is the process of removing heat from a low-temperature
reservoir and transferring it to a high-temperature reservoir. The most
common refrigeration systems use a refrigerant chemical to absorb heat
from items inside the system. It helps to slow down the activity of
bacteria, especially in food, to prevent spoilage. Refrigeration is widely
used in household refrigerators, industrial freezers, cryogenics, and air
conditioning systems.

2. Applications of Refrigeration
Refrigeration has a variety of applications, including:
• Household refrigerators for food preservation
• Industrial freezers for storing perishable goods
• Cryogenics for low-temperature physics and material research
• Air conditioning to cool buildings and vehicles
• Medical applications for preserving biological samples
• Cold storage for pharmaceuticals
• Manufacturing of dry ice
Question 2:
What are the main types of refrigeration systems mentioned in
the document?
Answer:
The main types of refrigeration systems mentioned are:
1. Vapor Compression Refrigeration (VCR) System
2. Vapor Absorption Refrigeration (VAR) System
3. Steam Jet or Vapor Ejection Refrigeration (VRR) System
4. Air Cycle Refrigeration (ACR) System
5. Vortex Tube Refrigeration (VTR) System
6. Thermo-electric Refrigeration (TER) System
7. Magnetic Cooling Refrigeration (MCR) System

3.draw the T-s and p-h diagram of refrigeration and explain

briefly?
Question 3:
Explain the Coefficient of Performance (COP) in refrigeration
systems.
Answer:
The COP is the ratio of useful heating or cooling provided to the work
required. It indicates the efficiency of a refrigeration or heating system.
• Significance: A higher COP means a more efficient system. It is
highly dependent on operating conditions, especially temperatures.
.

Question 4:
What is the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER)?
Answer:
EER is the ratio of the output cooling energy (in BTU/hr) to the input
electrical energy (in Watts). It is calculated under specific conditions
(e.g., 95°F outside temperature and 80°F inside temperature).
• Significance: It provides a measure of the efficiency of cooling
devices.

Question 5:
What is the meaning of "TR" (Tons of Refrigeration) in
refrigeration systems?
Answer:
One TR is the amount of heat required to freeze or melt one ton of ice
(2,000 lb or 907 kg) in 24 hours at 0°C (32°F).
• Significance: TR is used to measure the cooling capacity of
refrigeration systems. 1 TR = 12,000 BTU/h, which helps
determine the required cooling capacity for different applications.
1 TR is approximately equivalent to 12,000 BTU/h or 3.5 kW.
Question 6:
What is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER)?
Ans:
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio):
SEER is similar to EER but represents the overall performance of the
cooling system over an entire season, accounting for varying outdoor
temperatures.
• Significance: It helps to determine how well an air conditioning
system performs throughout different seasonal temperatures. A
higher SEER indicates better seasonal efficiency.
