Audio scripts
Listening 1:
My name is Josh and everyone in my family can play a musical instrument. My brother,
Thomas, is an acoustic guitarist. He plays in a band with some friends. He plays pop music . That’s
also his favourite music. He listens to pop music all the time. My mum can play the piano well. She
likes country music. She says country singers always have got great voices and the lyrics are
meaningful. There’s a country club near my house. My mum goes there a lot with Dad. Dad plays
the violin there sometimes. And my sister, Emma plays the trumpet. I know it’s a bit unusual for a
girl to play the trumpet but Emma thinks it’s really fun. She plays in the school band, too. Emma
listens to different types of music, such as pop, rock, and rap, but I think she likes jazz the most.
And me, I’m a drummer. I started playing the drums when I was 7 years old. My parents gave me a
drum set for my birthday. I play drums in a rock group, and rock is my favourite type of music. I go
to rock concerts whenever I can. I’m lucky because I live in London, so there are lots of rock
concerts on. It’s the best way to listen to rock music – live, at a concert.
