Residential and Other Farm STR

The document outlines electrical requirements for farm residences, specifying that a dwelling unit with a floor area of up to 50 sq. meters can have a single 20-A branch circuit if the load does not exceed 3,680 VA. It details the necessary branch circuits for various areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry, along with guidelines for conductor sizing and demand load calculations based on the floor area. Additionally, it provides demand factors for non-dwelling receptacle loads and exceptions for conductor sizes.

Farm Residence

Article 2.10.11 (d)

Single branch circuit
RURA For a dwelling unit having a floor area not more than
L 50 sq. meters it shall be permitted to have a single
ELECT 20-A 2-wire branch circuit provided that the total
RIFIC load does not exceed 3 680 VA
ATION

Article 2.10.2
Branch circuit ratings
RURA Conductors – Minimum Ampacity and Size
L ❖ampacity shall not be less than
ELECT non-continuous load plus 125% of the
RIFIC continuous load (expected to continue for 3
ATION hours or more)
Farm Residence
Article 2.10.1.11
Branch circuits required
❖ Number of Branch Circuits – depends on the loads
RURA (appliances/equipment) present
L ❖ In addition to this,
ELECT
(1) One or more 20-A small appliance circuits are
RIFIC
required to provide power to receptacles in the kitchen,
ATION
pantry, breakfast room, dining area, and similar areas;
(2) At least one 20-A laundry branch circuit for the
laundry receptacle outlet(s) with no
other outlets on this circuit; and
(3) At least one 20-A for bathroom lighting and
receptacle outlet(s).
According to 2.20.2.7: 20-A branch circuit = 1500 VA load
Farm Residence
According to 2.20.2.7:
The 20-A branch circuit for Small Appliance, Laundry and
Bathroom shall be computed at 1500 VA load in the
RURA computation for the feeders and services.
L
ELECT These loads shall be permitted to be included with the
RIFIC general lighting load and subjected to the demand factors
ATION provided in Table 2.20.2.2

Demand factors for Non-dwelling Receptacle Loads

Portion of load to which demand Demand factor (%)
factor applies (VA)
First 3,000 or less 100
Next 3,001 to 120,000 35
Remainder over 120,000 25

OCPD and Conductor Design

Conductor-OCPD
FLOOR AREA not more than 50 sq m
LOAD not exceeding 3680 VA
Example:
If Load = 3680 VA and Floor Area = 50 sq m
I = 16 A 2.0 sq mm Cu wires is sufficient (20A)
(THW, Tw or THHN)
But PEC Section 2.30.2.3(b) Exception states that
the minimum size of wire that can be used for
a single branch circuit is 3.5 sq mm Cu wires.
Then, a 20 AT OCPD can be used.
Conductor-OCPD
FLOOR AREA not more than 150 sq m
Demand Load = Sum of
a. Lighting, Convenience Outlet, Small Appliance
Load, Laundry Circuit
First 3,000 VA = 3,000 VA
Remainder @ 35% DF
b. Other Load
(ACU @ 100%DF, Cooking Load (%DF),
Motors(100%DF), etc)
Conductor-OCPD
FLOOR AREA more than 150 sq m
Demand Load = Sum of
a. ACU, Lighting, Convenience Outlet
b. Cooking Load (%DF)
c. Other Loads @ 40%DF
(Small Appliance Load, Laundry Circuit, etc)
