Computer ethics is about decisions that are consistent with our values
and principles and what is acceptable to the owner and the user as well.
In the following content, we will review together the concept of computer
ethics, its importance, and common issues related to it.

• Profession
A profession is a job that requires relatively long and specialized
preparation at the level of higher education.
It is a set of jobs with different duties and tasks, during which
individuals practice specific roles for them according to set goals that
they work to achieve, and during that they adhere to a group of
ethical rules that govern their professional behavior when they practice
that profession.
• Ethics is set of beliefs about right and wrong behavior within a
society. In another words, Standards or codes of behavior expected
of an individual by a group to which the individual belongs.

• Morality personal beliefs about right and wrong, it may vary by


age, education, religion etc.

• Law System of rules, enforced by a set of institutions, that tells


us what we can and cannot do. Legal acts are acts that conform
to the law

Virtues and vices define an individual’s moral values.

Virtue: Habit that inclines people to do what is acceptable


Vice: Habit of unacceptable behavior

In general, the law is a societal authority outside the scope of


professional associations. Most ethical matters are not addressed by
the law, such as benevolence at work. There are harmful acts that
the law does not criminalize, such as envy and hatred. The law adhered
people, but it does not make them honest.

• Sources of Professional Ethics:


1- Religious Sources
2- Arab Culture
3- Legislation and Laws
4- Traditions and Values

• Factors that must be adhered to within professional ethics:

1. Time is important.
2. Working hours are for work only
3. Avoiding illegal and unlawful practices at work
4. Respecting the rights of colleagues and not violating them
5. Dealing with customers and service seekers in a civilized and
sophisticated manner
6. Providing the best service
