LESSON WITH FOREIGN TEACHER: LESSON 2- THE SEASONS

Time: 90 minutes
Lesson objectives

a. Introducing the weather


b. New words: spring, summer, fall (autumn), winter

c. Use simple full sentences to describe weather and seasonal activities


d. Respond to and ask simple questions about the seasons
e. Speak confidently using the target sentence structures

Materials:

- Rewarding system (Star)
- Toys and crafts: Blank paper and crayons.
- Whiteboard and markers, small boards.
Setting up the class:
- Teacher should prepare all the materials and devices before the class begins.

- Open Youtube tabs for songs, and paste the Youtube links.
General notes:
- Speed: For this level, speaking speed is really important. Teachers should speak. Speed will
be decided based on student’s age, the younger the slower. Speed will also depend on the
students’ level.
- TPR: Using TPR is important to motivate the student and using simple actions, as required,
will help motivate the student.
- Pronunciation: For ESL students, correcting pronunciation is really important and teachers
should correct during the class.
- The teacher should appraise the student or correct positively frequently.
- If the student cannot answer, the teacher can mouth then say out loud to help.
- If the student cannot concentrate, the teacher can use TPR.
- If teacher needs any help, please kindly ask the teaching assistant.
Time Teaching techniques &TPR

2 mins 1. Teacher introduces himself or herself; ask for student's name


- Teacher exposes the student to say “How are you?”

2. Introduce the rewards system


-Teacher introduces star, rewarding system "When you do a great job (point to the student
and thumb up), you will get a star1!”

5 mins Teacher says: "Let's start with an interesting song"

Teacher plays the song and does some actions to illustrate the song, encouraging the
student to follow, and introduce the seasons in a year.

8 mins Review previous vocabulary, sentences about the weather, and encourage S to speak.

(weather, rainy, windy, snowy, sunny, stormy)

Teacher can review and asks S “What’s the weather today?”

10 mins Teacher says: “Let’s learn new words about the weather”
Teacher points at the pictures and encourages students to repeat 2 times words.
Teacher should correct students’ pronunciation while they are speaking.

10 mins Teacher says” Let’s play a game to review new vocabulary!


Teacher devides S into 2 teams and give each team 1 board and a marker. Teacher will show
the picture and asks student to write word on the board.
-If the student can’t write T can help S by writing words on the board.
25 mins Teacher shows the conversation for S and asks 2 students to role play.
Example:
T: Hello! What season is it?
S: It’s spring!
T: What’s the weather like in spring?
S: It’s rainy!
T: What do you wear?
S: I wear a raincoat!
T: What do you do?
S: I jump in puddles!

Speaking Game: “Seasonal Spin & Say”


1. Teacher create a random spin asks each student to spin
2. Teacher prompts:
o T: “What season?”

o S: “It’s fall!”

o T: “What’s the weather like?”

o S: “It’s cool.”

o T: “What do you wear?”

o S: “I wear a jacket.”

o T: “What do you do?”

o S: “I jump in the leaves!”

25 mins Children draw something they love to do in each season.


Take turns standing up to say:
 “My favorite season is ___.”
 “I like ___ (drawn activity).”

5 mins Teacher reviews all new vocab, conversation and gives students stars before ends the class.
