Graphic Organizer
● A graphic organizer is a teaching and learning
tool that is used to organize information and
ideas in a way that is easy to comprehend and
internalize
● By integrating text and visuals, graphic
organizers show relationships and connections
between concepts, terms, and facts
● scientifically proven to be an effective way of
teaching and learning
Concept Map
● a diagram or graphical tool that visually represents
relationships between concepts and ideas.
● visual representations of information. They can take the
form of charts, graphic organizers, tables, flowcharts,
Venn Diagrams, timelines, or T-charts.
● especially useful for students who learn better visually,
although they can benefit any type of learner.
Purposes:
● Facilitates comprehension with its visual format
● Synthesizes information by integrating new and old
concepts to better grasp the big picture
● Encourages brainstorming and high-level thinking
● Fosters discovery of new concepts and their
connections
Concept Cluster
●Defined by a weighted list of criteria, such that no
one of these criteria is either necessary or sufficient
for membership
●Wittgenstein alleged that game was such a concept;
some have claimed that species concepts are cluster
concepts
●A type of graphic organizer that is used to help
structure the process of idea generation
●It can be used in brainstorming, organizing
information, and exploring new topics.
●Used for brainstorming, aka cloud diagrams; similar
to a mind map
●A non-linear organizer that begins with one central
idea and branches out into more detail on that topic
Wheel Map
● a cross between the circle and spider
maps. This graphic organizer is useful for
both brainstorming and arranging ideas.
The main topic being studied is in the
center of the chart, and various circles or
shapes, a sectioned larger circle, or related
bubbles can be found around it.
● used to organize information in a
hierarchical or sequential manner.
● Thoughts are placed in distinct regions
surrounding the core idea, and then
clarified within the same circle or with a
shape emanating from it.
● useful for brainstorming and organizing
information about a topic in a freeform
manner. It's useful for taking notes when
researching or gaining a sense of the big
picture.
Cycle Graph
● a type of graphic organizer that
shows how concepts are related
to one another in a repeating
cycle.
● Use a cycle graph when there is
no beginning and no end to a
repeating process.
● In making a cycle graph, the
student must identify the main
events in the cycle, how they
interact, and how the cycle
repeats.
Fact Starring
● Most commonly known as the
Fact or Opinion graphic
organizer
● designed to help students
determine and identify facts and
opinions in their reading.
● Graphic organizer to test the
reading comprehension skill of
students
Discussion Web
● a graphic organizer that helps students
arrange evidence they have gathered
primarily from readings
● may also be used to process evidence and
information from activities and additional
sources.
● Discussion Webs support students in
engaging with information from text and
other sources and then with each other to
come to an evidence-based conclusion.
● Any question or issue that involves two
viewpoints or more than one potentially
acceptable answer can be explored using
this strategy.
● This strategy can be used as a preface or
follow-up to group discussions.
Bubble Tree
● Used to represent relationships
among concepts. It is usually used
with information that can be
categorized beneath a core or main
understanding.
● used to describe a central idea or
term at the center using adjectives in
the bubbles that surround.
● Teachers can use this general
organizer template for main idea and
details, pre-writing, word analysis,
brain dumps, concept mapping,
background knowledge collection,
and more.
Ladder Web
● a vertically elongated orb.
exceeding twice the length
over width (ladder index. 2)
and possessing (sub)parallel
rather than round side
frames.
● shows an efficient process to
assist students or children in
breaking down complex
tasks into easy-to-read style
