1. What are the four main spheres of the Earth system and how do they interact with each other?
Draw an example of how two or more spheres interact.

These spheres constantly interact. For example:

Rain (hydrosphere) erodes rocks (geosphere).

Plants (biosphere) take in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen.

Volcanoes (geosphere) release gases into the atmosphere.

Animals (biosphere) drink water from the hydrosphere.

2. Write a specific example of how an action on one sphere affects another.

Imagine a river (hydrosphere) flowing through a rocky canyon (geosphere). Fish (biosphere) live
in the river, and water evaporates (hydrosphere to atmosphere).

3. How does the rotational motion of the Earth affect everyday life? Give at least two specific
examples.

Day and night: As the Earth rotates, different parts receive sunlight, creating day, and other
parts are in darkness, creating night.

Time zones: Because the Earth rotates, different places have different times of day. That's why
when it's noon in Medellin, it might be nighttime in another part of the world.
4. Draw a picture of the earth in relation to the sun that shows why summer occurs in the
northern hemisphere of the earth.

The Sun on the left, the Earth on the right, tilted to the left. The Earth's northern hemisphere is
tilted toward the Sun.

Explanation:

The Earth is tilted on its axis. When the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun, it receives
more direct sunlight and for longer periods, which causes summer. At the same time, the
southern hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun, so it experiences winter.
