A LAN, or Local Area Network, is basically a network that connects all the
computers and devices like printers and servers in one physical space, like
an office or building. It lets everyone share files, resources, and internet
access quickly and easily. It’s super fast, low-cost to manage, and helps
teams work better together.
You’ll need to grab the basics: a router, switches, Ethernet cables Cat5e or
Cat6, network interface cards, patch panels, access points for Wi-Fi, and
maybe a server. Once you’ve got all that, snap some pics as proof that
you’re ready to roll.
3. Draft a proposal in groups giving reasons why your company
should use LAN for their new office.
Using a LAN, It helps with sharing files and printers, makes communication
super smooth, keeps everything centralized like files and backups, and
boosts security. It also reduces costs because you’re not duplicating
everything, and it’s easy to scale when the company grows.
We mostly use Ethernet standard stuff for wired networks and Wi-Fi using
standards. On the software side, IP runs the show, and we also use DHCP to
auto-assign IP addresses. For file sharing and communication, we’ve got
protocols like HTTP, and HTTPS.
We usually go with Microsoft super popular and perfect for creating detailed
network maps. But for something lighter and online, Lucidchart is great as
well. Both do the job pretty good.
6. In groups, you are requested to configure a LAN for one of the
departments in your ccompany.
We plugged in the PC, install a NIC if it’s not built-in, run a cable to the
switch, and configure IP settings. Then, we’d join it to the domain or
workgroup, update the OS and drivers, and test network connectivity. If
everything checks out , we were done.
We don’t leave a mess, All cables are tied neatly or hidden in trays, no loose
wires to trip on. Tools and equipment get packed away, dust is cleaned up,
and signage is removed. Basically, we leave the space better than we found
it.
