1. Explain local area computer networks (LAN’s).

A LAN, or Local Area Network, is basically a network that connects all the
computers and devices like printers and servers in one physical space, like
an office or building. It lets everyone share files, resources, and internet
access quickly and easily. It’s super fast, low-cost to manage, and helps
teams work better together.

2. You are requested to gather the following LAN components to

start a new LAN connection for your offices, please provide pictures
as evidence to the components gathered.

You’ll need to grab the basics: a router, switches, Ethernet cables Cat5e or
Cat6, network interface cards, patch panels, access points for Wi-Fi, and
maybe a server. Once you’ve got all that, snap some pics as proof that
you’re ready to roll.
3. Draft a proposal in groups giving reasons why your company
should use LAN for their new office.

Using a LAN, It helps with sharing files and printers, makes communication
super smooth, keeps everything centralized like files and backups, and
boosts security. It also reduces costs because you’re not duplicating
everything, and it’s easy to scale when the company grows.

4. Which LAN protocols are used in your company currently?

We mostly use Ethernet standard stuff for wired networks and Wi-Fi using
standards. On the software side, IP runs the show, and we also use DHCP to
auto-assign IP addresses. For file sharing and communication, we’ve got
protocols like HTTP, and HTTPS.

5. Which Network Diagramming Software is used in your company

currently?

We usually go with Microsoft super popular and perfect for creating detailed
network maps. But for something lighter and online, Lucidchart is great as
well. Both do the job pretty good.
6. In groups, you are requested to configure a LAN for one of the
departments in your ccompany.

So we started by connecting all department PCs to a switch using Ethernet

cables. That switch links to the main router, giving them access to the
internet and other departments. We also assigned IPs, make sure they’re on
the same subnet, and test if they can access shared drives and printers.

7. In groups, you're required to install a network workstation in a

local area network according to industry standards, by your
supervisor.

We plugged in the PC, install a NIC if it’s not built-in, run a cable to the
switch, and configure IP settings. Then, we’d join it to the domain or
workgroup, update the OS and drivers, and test network connectivity. If
everything checks out , we were done.

8. Which various standards, checklists, and reports form part of the

paper trail that is included in the overall documentation effort of
network installation, in your company.

We document everything: inventory of components, network layout

diagrams, IP allocations, cable management plans, and installation
checklists. We also include test results and make sure everything aligns with
standards or company specific IT policies.

9. How is your company left clean and tidy in the workplace

according to standardized health and safety regulations?

We don’t leave a mess, All cables are tied neatly or hidden in trays, no loose
wires to trip on. Tools and equipment get packed away, dust is cleaned up,
and signage is removed. Basically, we leave the space better than we found
it.
