STAP Specification

This document outlines the specifications for self-acting differential pressure controllers used in HVAC applications, detailing their design, materials, and operational features. Key aspects include the use of a pressure-balanced cone control plug, adjustable differential pressure settings, and compliance with ISO 9001 standards. Additionally, it specifies the requirements for pressure ratings, materials, and the need for quality certificates upon delivery.

TYPICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR

SELF-ACTING DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE CONTROLLERS

1.0Differential pressure controllers for HVAC applications are proportional self-

acting control valves that stabilise the differential pressure across
hydronic circuits or directly across modulating control valves.

1.02 The control plug is a pressure-balanced cone that reduces the force
necessary to open or close the valve. The plug is controlled by an EPDM
membrane associated with a conical stainless steel spring.

1.03 The proportional band must be sufficient to obtain stable control. This
means that the proportional band must be 40 to 50% of the set point
chosen.

1.04 Each differential pressure controller is coupled with a measuring valve for
pressure transmission. This also allows measurement of the stabilised
differential pressure and the water flow rate. The differential pressure
controller and its measuring valve are both provided with measuring
nipples and a shut-off function. They are manufactured in accordance with
ISO 9001.

1.05 Certificate of Origin and Certificate of Quality from factory shall be

submitted for inspection when the valves are delivered on site before
installation.

1.06 Pressure measuring nipples must be integral with the body and with leak-
tight shutoff when not in use.

1.07 The differential pressure setting must be adjustable externally with an

Allen key, without disassembling the valve or stopping the plant. The
relationship between the design set point and the setting in number of
turns with the Allen key is given in a table. This design set point
corresponds to a valve opening of 70 %.

1.08 Material and pressure ratings (differential pressure control valve and its
measuring valve)

Sizes 15 to 50 mm (1/2" to 2") are with thread connections. They

shall be made in a dezincification resistant copper alloy with Brinell
hardness of at least 130 and a body pressure rating of at least 20
bar (300psi). Maximum primary differential pressure allowed shall
be at least 250 kPa. The bonnet of the differential pressure control
valve shall be easily dismountable to facilitate installation of the
valve in tight locations. To allow easy venting and connection of the
capillary pipe, it should be possible to rotate the bonnet on the
valve body.

Sizes 65 to 100 mm (2.5” to 4”) are with flange connections. They

shall be made in cast iron equivalent to BS 1452 for a body
pressure rating of at least 16 bar. Maximum primary differential
pressure allowed shall be at least 350 kPa. Each differential
pressure control valve shall be marked with bar code on metallized
label allowing identification through a unique serial number.
