Chapter 1

The Problem and a Review of Related Literature

Introduction and Background of the Study

Intrapersonal skills are the foundations of a successful career. Intrapersonal skills are the

inner abilities and behaviors that help people control their emotions, deal with difficulties, and

learn new knowledge. Someone without good intrapersonal skills may have difficulty

overcoming challenges, focusing on what they are doing, and solving problems.

The world became at risk when a new strain of Coronavirus was discovered in December

2019 in Wuhan, China. According to the United Nations Development Programme (2018), this

pandemic caused people to change their lifestyle almost instantly. Among South East Asia, the

Philippines is one of the countries with the largest number of COVID-19 cases, which results in

setting the public into Community Quarantine. Due to Enhance Community Quarantine, families

were forced to stay at home for months.

As stated by Brooks et al. (2020), quarantine is considered a disagreeable experience;

separation from loved ones possibly will cause drastic effects on an instance. The main reason

for implementing quarantine as a public health intervention is to lessen the harmful effects of

COVID as much as possible. With this, people must comply with the World Health Organization

(WHO) guidelines, such as maintaining at least one-meter distance, minimizing visitors to the

house. The returnee should not interact with any visitors to stay at home as much as possible.

1
However, physical health is just a visible problem because few other things should be monitored,

such as mental health, not only of the infected persons but also those in a quarantine state.

According to the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases

(NCIRD), Division of Viral Diseases (2019), for individuals, the coronavirus disease 2019

(COVID-19) pandemic can be traumatic. In adults and adolescents, uncertainty and anxiety

about a new disease and what could happen can be daunting and trigger intense emotions. Public

health behavior can make individuals feel alienated and alone, such as social distancing, and can

increase stress and anxiety. In addition to this, stress may often trigger the following during an

epidemic of infectious disease; anxiety and concern for your health and the health of your loved

ones, your financial status or employment, or lack of social services on which you depend,

changes in sleep or eating habits, trouble sleeping or concentrating, worsening of chronic health

issues, worsening of mental health conditions.

Intrapersonal skills are important regardless of age, sex, or economic status of a person.

This includes the psychological, emotional, and social well-being of an individual. The essential

changes to our daily lives are applied to the fear of catching the virus in a pandemic such as

COVID-19 as our activities are limited in favor of attempts to control and slow down the

transmission of the virus. We must look after our mental well-being and physical health in the

face of modern realities of working from home, transient unemployment, children's home

education, and loss of physical interaction with other family members, acquaintances, and

colleagues. As a researcher and a future health care provider, our aim in this research study was

intended to examine the possible effect of home quarantine on the intrapersonal skills of nursing

students. In addition, how students have been doing in the new normal environments and how it

2
affects their ability to be students and their mental, psychological and social well-being is also to

be decided.

Purpose of the Study

The effect of the pandemic has been brought the world to lockdown. Students nowadays

are dealing with different emotional fear and anxiety because of the pandemic. Intrapersonal

skills are a critical concern to the student because it affects their feelings, attitudes, and emotions

that have importance to do with their behavior in dealing with their activity day by day. The

purpose of this research study was to evaluate the potential impact of the home quarantine on the

intrapersonal skills of nursing students in Olivarez College Tagaytay. In addition to this, it is also

to determine how students have been doing in the new normal settings and how it affects their

capability to be students and their emotional, psychological, and social well-being.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

In this section, different literature related to books, dissertations, journals, and the internet

is presented and discussed. The review will be divided into different parts such as; Home

Quarantine, Effects of Quarantine based on Demographic Profile, and Intrapersonal Skills. The

demographic profile will be categorized into age, gender, year level, and economic status of the

people affected by being in a home quarantine due to pandemic.

Home Quarantine

The home quarantine restricts people from going outside to prevent acquiring a

contagious disease. Because of that, people need to adjust to their own lives to cope with the

3
current situation. As studied by Wang et al. (2020), home quarantine effectively prevents

transmission during the incubation period and early onset period for people who have a travel

history in epidemic areas. Home quarantine has helped prevent the transmission of Covid-19, but

more tasks need to be done to enhance the early detection of the infection.

Marroquín et al. (2020) stated that social distancing, home-quarantine, and individual

behavior change limit the disease's transmission if implemented. But even though it is for the

containment of the virus, these social interventions may affect the people's mental health, as

noticed from epidemics like the 2003 SARS outbreak and 2009 H1N1 outbreak.

In her study, Ye (2020) revealed that being in home-quarantine for a long time affects

children's physical and mental health. Some studies have shown that younger children who

experienced this situation are more likely to have high depressive and stress symptoms. A longer

time for quarantine may result in poor mental health. Since children cannot focus on their normal

class, they may experience limited physical activities, lack of sleep due to irregular sleep rhythm,

longer electronic gadgets, screen exposure, and unhealthy diets.

According to Gualano et al. (2020), the Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has been

acknowledged as a cause of psychological and social consequences that might affect mental

health and main mental health stressors during quarantine have resulted in being frustration and

boredom, duration of quarantine, insufficient supplies, lack of information, and fears of

infection.

Based on Wu et al. (2020), the mental problems of parents with low economic levels

were higher than those with a high economic level, which is coherent to previous studies. A

parent's economic status is an important factor that affects an individual's mental health. Due to

4
pandemic, people's income is also affected, and families living in poverty will be more affected,

leading to more mental health problems.

Intrapersonal Skills

As stated by Mertens et al. (2019), the intrapersonal domain refers to managing one's

own feelings, emotions, and attitudes pertained to the individual self. It represents an individual's

subjective psychological functioning, and for instance, competencies in the intrapersonal domain

predict better academic achievement, and competencies in the interpersonal domain predict

better peer relations.

According to Scalcucci (2018), intrapersonal variables such as cognitive and social

domains greatly impact academic functions during adolescence. It was also stated that hope,

school risk behaviors, and mattering significantly predicted achievement. In a unified model,

hope and school risk behaviors best-predicted achievement variance. This information can be

utilized for prevention and early intervention purposes. This study also discussed ways to prevent

school risk behaviors, such as truancy, tardiness, and lack of work completion. Additionally, it

supports the development and implementation of programs for children that increase students'

sense of hope and matter.

Lass (2019) stated that intrapersonal skills could support people to substitute with more

conscious decision making for our subconscious automatic reactions, choosing how to respond

properly. It would be beneficial for all to recognize our thoughts and emotions before they

develop to the point that they trigger a cascade of problematic effects in the external world.

5
Before they occur, being more conscious of our own intrapersonal skills may prevent problems

and lead us to better overall mental well-being.

Intrapersonal skills are defined as internal abilities, perceptions, and even attitudes within

the person and the mind. Sambiah & Aneel (2016) mentioned that the "know thyself" by

Socrates or means of knowing thyself is how much applied introspection to our personalities and

witness our strengths and weaknesses. It shows the human quest for self-knowledge was ancient.

The study meant that nothing before or after matters, what was within is what matters and that

this was the universal truth. Self-knowledge is all-encompassing meaning; whatever an

individual learned through experience can be applied across everything else they face.

Intrapersonal skill is the highest form of intelligence. The nature of intrapersonal skill relies

upon the nature of individual abilities to precede. So, intrapersonal skill is human behavior, and

it is a way of life. The strength to understand oneself and other people, imagine, plan, and solve

problems relies on one's thinking. Skills are individual capabilities use to work through real-

world situations and allow individuals to respond using awareness and intentional strategy to

gain positive outcomes.

Significant gains in intrapersonal skills improved the ability to concentrate on academics

and a higher intention to remain in school. As a result of counseling, older students and those

going to university showed more academic gains, while women and those staying off-campus

reported greater overall well-being. Eventually, as a result of counseling, individuals in their later

years described better intrapersonal results than those in their early years of university. Findings

indicate that students' psychological well-being and academic functioning are closely related and

have major consequences for improving student outcomes. (Winterrowd et al., 2016)

6
Effects of Quarantine based on Demographic Profile

The effects of being in quarantine are based on the demographic profile of people. The

profile is in terms of age, gender, year level, and economic status.

AGE

According to Liang et al. (2020), youth groups who were prone to psychological

problems due to COVID-19 are in the age range of 14 to 35 years old, and most people with

psychological problems are in the age range between 21 to 30 years old. Psychological problems

include the occurrence of COVID-19.

As stated by Loades et al. (2020), during the crisis of the covid-19 pandemic, there is a

huge impact on the children and adolescents in terms of mental health; many of the scholars were

affected. Previous research has shown that social isolation in children and adolescents is

correlated with increased rates of depression. It was also mentioned that ages 11- 16 were

assessed according to their self-efficacy in executing achievements, optimism, and coping that

had a large impact on their behavior. These 3 classifications are subject to change because of the

COVID-19 protocols and also the pandemic. The results state that most of the youth established

mental health symptoms, which affected the self-efficacy, problem focusing, and ability to

engage in coping.

Zhou et al. (2020) indicated that psychological health problems are prevalent in

adolescents, especially in emotional disorders. The study found that the increasing rate of

emotional disorders is greatly influenced by stressful events of the external factors such as; fear

of acquiring the disease and lifestyle changes - most are done at home or online. These changes

7
may result in anxiety and depression. The results show there is a high prevalence of

psychological health problems among adolescents.

Capone et al. (2020) stated that the increasing rate of infected cases worldwide could

affect individuals' mental health, and this stress may lead to undesirable effects on the well-being

of the students. The transition from face-to-face discussion to online delivery of learning

impacted students' lives regarding their careers and well-being. This study also shows that the

ages from 18 to 63 years of students are not fully affected with regards to mental health due to

COVID-19 and quarantine protocols. However, most of them mentioned that this new mode of

learning has added more stress and challenges.

The study of Tang et al. (2020) claims that the outbreak affects children and adolescents'

mental health. This study was published recently, on the 12th of October 2020, which shows the

relationship between mental health and children and adolescents during COVID-19 school

closure. The study reveals that three of the most prevalent symptoms were anxiety, depression,

and stress. This then shows that quarantine brought these mental health issues to children and

adolescents.

GENDER

According to Gray (2020), children seem to be adapting to life without their mates,

classes, and hobbies after several months of coronavirus lockdown. In general, boys and girls

cope differently. Many girls continue to communicate by phone, video calls, or social media with

their friends and express their thoughts and emotions, but many boys are turning to video games.

And, while boys are talking to friends about video games, sharing is limited, leaving boys with a

hole in their social support. This distinction has a lot to do with the ways that boys and girls

8
connect in general. It is their way of processing that girls are more likely to make time for talks

with friends to chat about their concerns at length. On the other hand, when concentrating on a

common activity or goal, such as playing sports or building legos together, boys are more likely

to talk.

Quisumbing (2020) indicated that stay-at-home recommendations and strict lockdowns

had left both men and women jobless in several nations. Many migrant workers have lost their

jobs as well and many had already return to their rural homes. Women whose husbands migrate

gain autonomy in decision-making in many contexts cherished amid the rise in responsibilities.

Women abruptly lose this autonomy and position as the household's de facto head as male

migrants return home. Stay-at-home orders often make it difficult for many women, one of their

main obligations directly affected by COVID-19, to procure food for cooking. Some women

would need to decide to spend time outside the home to provide their children and families with

either clean water or food.

According to Mclean (2017), women reports greater fear and are more likely than men to

develop anxiety disorders. It is possible to partially explain women's greater susceptibility to

anxiety disorders by exploring gender disparities in the etiological factors known to lead to

anxiety. This analysis discusses evidence of gender differences across a wide variety of relevant

factors, including biological factors, stress and trauma, cognitive variables, temperamental

factors, and environmental factors.

According to Galasso et al. (2020), women in other domains have been found to consent

and comply more with the current laws. In this research, we question if, and for what reason,

they are also more likely to implement the rapid behavioral changes needed to resolve the

challenge raised by COVID-19. Women are less likely to transmit the disease. "Since changes in

9
behavior, from decreased mobility to wearing masks, will have to be recognized as the" new

standard, "differential public messages by gender will be needed for at least some time to

improve male compliance. More generally, our evidence indicates a realm of gender distinction:

in response to a new danger, behavioral changes.

Griffith et al. (2020) stated that the largest body of widely available sex-disaggregated

statistics from global government sources. However, there are no apparent gender disparities in

the number of reported cases. In 41 of 47 nations, more men died of COVID-19 than women.

The average case-fatality ratio of COVID-19 among men is about 2.4 times higher than among

women. Another US research showed that men were more likely to underestimate the

seriousness of the virus's ability to affect them, and fewer men than women reported avoiding

large public meetings or avoiding direct physical interaction with others. In comparison, men

tend to have higher rates of activity associated with COVID-19 infection and death, including

higher rates of cigarette use and alcohol use than women in many nations, including the United

States.

YEAR LEVEL

The impact of Corona Virus (COVID-19) on the worldwide pandemic has brought to

chaos. It affects the medium of school in universities and college based on education and

assessments. The investigation intends to recognize the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the

year of student and how it may affect their preparation for the next year's level. According to

Pradeep (2019), the COVID-19 began in the Wuhan City of China and it spread rapidly

worldwide. It also sending billions of people into lockdown. The World Health Organization

(WHO) reported the COVID scourge as a pandemic. Considering the increase worry about the

current COVID-19, a developing number of college’s student over the world have been stop and

10
dropped. And graduate' student have been taking the pandemic seriously, since there was some

graduation being cancelled. The COVID-19 was horrible that flare-up on education and

psychological wellness of students' status and academics.

The long‐term closing of schools and home‐quarantine during the COVID‐19 pandemic

have been explains a negative effect. Kilincel (2020) mentioned that the school helps as one-way

method in dealing with stress, particularly for a student with emotional wellness issues.

According to Branzendale (2020), the changes may accompany the impacts on individual and

students' psychological well-being and even lead to a tricky endless loop.

According to Shevlin et al. (2020) most students are commonly firm, they are not

bothered other than the standard follow‐ups for their persistent ailments. In some case, regarding

the current circumstances the mental impacts has prompt more genuine well-being and social

issues. Understanding their response and feelings is significant in addressing their necessities

that may help to decrease their nervousness and burden.

Mareli & Castelnuovo (2020) stated that the effect of lockdown was more remarkable in

student than in laborers. As per the outcome, the analyst discovered an expansion in bed time

hourly, sleep latency, and wake-up time between before and during the COVID-19 crisis and

intensifying rest quality and sleep deprivation side effects. Therefore, laborers with troubles in

the rest inception were only 15% and the 27.8% demonstrated that have been burden, while

34.3% indicated on student.

The effect of the COVID-19 have been flare-up it affects particularly in all areas of the

general public school. American Council on Education (2020) analyzed that the enlistment has

been probably drop by 15% within the 2020. Simultaneously, numerous organizations may need

11
to requests for huge education cost. The students have been experiencing hard time to come up

with the situation, and were experiencing a trouble with the financial needs of the family.

COVID-19 affect the family assistance of its daily living and it also affect the education of the

student.

According to Praghulapati (2020), about 24.9% of student have encountered nervousness

due to this COVID-19 episode. Living in metropolitan zones while living with guardians, and

having a steady family salary income are defensive variables for the students against the tension

experienced during the COVID-19 attack. A colleague student that has been contact with

COVID-19 increases anxiety and risk to the whole family. The student's emotional well-being

are influenced when confronted with a general interest crisis, and it has need consideration

backing from financials. And it was also suggested that the legislature in schools ought to work

together to tackle the issue.

ECONOMIC STATUS

Financial loss during quarantine is a serious economic problem and another danger factor

for side effects of psychological disorders that can keep going for several months into

quarantine. Lacking essential supplies (for example, food, water, dress, or convenience) during

and anger 4-6 months after the end of isolation. (Bezerra et al., 2020)

The pandemic prompts an economic recession that brings a few consequences,

particularly for low-income families and their children's well-being and prosperity. Analysts

found that adolescents who originate from families with more critical financial difficulties tend

to show higher depressive symptoms and lower belongingness. (de Miranda et al., 2020)

12
According to Moreno et al. (2020), the subsequent economic breakdown could build the

danger of psychological wellness issues. The decline in the economy brought about by COVID-

19 will prompt joblessness, economic loss, financial frailty, and poverty, which impede

admittance to well-being administrations, in this manner affecting physical and mental well-

being and personal satisfaction. These economic factors can induce mental well-being issues and

adversely influence those with prior mental problems.

A study of Bai (2020), examines the degree of progress after the pandemic in their social

and economic status. A small endeavor has been made to comprehend the individuals' stress and

anxiety during this pandemic and how the government will help change society.

The current COVID-19 pandemic and the approaching economic depression greatly

influence everyday life across most current social orders. Having critical economic impacts

because of a "great lockdown" that sees over 80% of all worldwide working environments partly

or entirely closed and an expected recession of 0.3%. (Chen et al., 2020).

Synthesis

HOME QUARANTINE

Gualano, M. R., Et. Al. (2020); Marroquín, B., Vine, V., & Morgan, R. (2020); Wu, M.,

Et. Al., (2020) Stated that pandemic and being quarantined has a great impact in mental health

including depression, generalized anxiety, insomnia, and post-traumatic stress not just in youth

but also to parents. In Wang, J., Liao, Y., Wang, X., Li, Y., et. al., (2020) study, they stated that

comprehensive and realistic guidelines for people under home quarantine should be provided.

13
INTRAPERSONAL SKILLS

Winterrowd Et al., (2016), Scalcucci (2018) and Mertens Et al., (2019) both mentioned in their

study that intrapersonal skills improved capacity to focus on their study, better academic

achievement and have an immense effect on academic functions during adolescence while Lass

(2019) and Sambiah and Aneel (2016) explained that intrapersonal skills are the highest form of

intelligence, it help us in decision making and choosing our responds on the problems.

AGE

Duan, L., Et. Al., (2020); Hussong, A. M., Et. Al. (2020); and Tang, S., (2020) both

stated in their study that youth group are the most affected of the quarantine in terms of mental

health. children and adolescent are most likely to have anxiety, depression and stress. there is

impact in these age group in executing skills, optimism and in their coping and lessen their

performances in daily activities. On the other hand, Capone, V., et. Al. (2020) they stated that the

pandemic and being quarantine somehow helps the students to enhance their technique to study,

interaction and more independence in decision making.

GENDER

According to Laura Gray, PhD (2020, May 29); Agnes Quisumbing (2020, April 22); and

Carmen P. Mclean (2017) they mentioned that both genders has different ways of coping but

women are more likely to develop anxiety and more affected by the home quarantine than men.

They focused their study on what gender is more affected by this pandemic in terms of mental

health while Galasso, V., et. Al. (2020) and Griffith D., Et. Al. (2020) stated in their study that

women are complying to the laws while men does not follow the rules. They mentioned that men

are in origin rule breakers and more likely to acquire COVID 19.

14
YEAR LEVEL

Auto, E. French, J. Ugalde Auraya, M. et al. (2020) and Sahu, Pradeep (2019) both

mentioned that COVID-19 cases are the cause of closure of schools and universities. There is

also an increased number of students who dropped and stop this school year.

Marelli, S., et al. (2020), Kilincel, S. et al., (2020) and Progholopati, A. (2020) mentioned

that, the closure of schools and universities causes’ anxiety and loneliness, and the side effect of

increase bed and wake up time during this quarantine leads to insomnia.

ECONOMIC STATUS

Bezerra, A.C.V., Et. Al. (2020), de Miranda, D., Et. Al. (2020), and Moreno, C., Et. Al.

(2020) stated financial difficulties, being jobless, and economic loss of family during quarantine

show higher depressive symptoms and can develop psychological disorders. On the other hand,

Manjula Bai, H. (2020) said that the government plays a crucial role in recovery of economic

status of community.

Theoretical Framework

Tai Tran (2019) stated that Intrapersonal skills are all about self-awareness and managing

your internal behaviors. When a person has strong intrapersonal skills, they take responsibility

for their feelings and emotions. That mindset is also described as intrapersonal intelligence.

People learn how to focus their attention, organize priorities and goals, and involve in critical

thinking and problem-solving. When something is not right from what you planned, you know

how to react with a reflective and better strategy to attain a better result. All about self-awareness

15
and managing your internal behaviors and inner mechanisms are intrapersonal abilities. The

cornerstone on which you develop your relationships with others is your intrapersonal skills, and

they help you manage your interpersonal relationships more effectively. Analytical reasoning,

delegation, productivity, resilience, resourcefulness, analytical thinking, and vision are some of

the most relevant intrapersonal talents. Tai also added that you take full responsibility for your

thoughts and emotions when you have powerful intrapersonal abilities. Intrapersonal knowledge

is also known as this mentality. You learn how to concentrate your attention, set goals and

objectives, and engage in deliberate thought and problem-solving. You know how to respond

with a thoughtful, intentional approach to achieve a positive result when something goes

differently than you expect.

Definition of Terms

The following terms are defined based on the use in this study:

Analytical Thinking – the ability to solve complex problems by analyzing data that you have

accumulated and organized. Analytical thinkers can identify trends that often lead to

innovative solutions between datasets.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – is a degree-level program in nursing that requires four

years of study. It is the target respondents of the study.

Home Quarantine – it is a restriction on the movement of people by staying at home which is

intended to prevent the spread or acquiring the disease.

Intrapersonal skills – are internal skills, perceptions, behavior, and attitudes that occur within a

person’s mind.

Olivarez College Tagaytay (OCT) – Olivarez College Tagaytay is a private, non-sectarian

stock-profit educational institution established in the belief that providing educational

opportunities for the masses is the best legacy that a leader can offer to the Filipino nation

and the world. It is the location where the target respondents are currently studying.

Productivity – it measures how efficiently production inputs. The state of being able to create or

work in high quality and fast pace.

Resilience – despite setbacks, or challenges, or insufficient resources, information is how to

cope. Resilience is a measure of how much you desire something and how ready and able

you are to overcome barriers to having it. It is also often being described as the ability to pick

20
yourself back up more times than you’ve been knocked down. It is about the attitude you

adopt and the actions you take once you start again.

Resourcefulness – able to create useful and unique solutions in challenging situations. It is also

about getting things done in the face of challenges.

Chapter 2

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the various methods used to gather the needed information. This

includes the Research Design, Population and Sampling, Respondents of the Study, Research

Instrument, Validation of the Instrument, Data Gathering Procedure, Treatment of Qualitative

Data and Data Analysis.

Research Design

21
The study will use a descriptive quantitative research method. Descriptive research

attempts to determine, describe, or identify what creates light on current issues or problems

through a process of data collection that describes the situation more completely than what is

possible without employing this method. In essence, descriptive studies are used to describe

various aspects of the phenomenon. In its popular format, descriptive research is used to describe

the characteristics of the sample population.

According to Streefkerk (2019), descriptive research is defined as a method of research

that describes the features of the studied population or phenomena. This approach focuses more

on the research subject's "what" than the research subject's "why".

Population of Sampling

In this study, the researchers will use Total population sampling which is type of

purposive sampling, these are group whose members all share a particular characteristic and

interest. As stated by Stephanie (2018), Total Population Sampling is most feasible when the

total population is of manageable size, such as a well-defined subgroup of a larger population. In

practice, when the target group is small and set apart by an uncommon and well-defined feature,

complete population sampling is performed. For this research, the target respondents of the

researcher are the Nursing students of Olivares College Tagaytay from level 1 to 3. The total

population of the Nursing students in Olivarez College Tagaytay is 104.

Respondents of the Study

22
Year Level Number of respondents per Year Level

1 53

2 25

3 26

Total Population 104

Figure 1.1 Table of Respondents of the Study

The total population from the different year levels of BSN was one hundred four (104).

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing of Olivarez College Tagaytay has a total number of 53

students in first-year (1st), 25 students in second-year (2nd), and the third-year (3rd) has 26

students.

The respondents are selected by their demographics – age, gender, and school affiliation,

and economic status. They are chosen to serve the purpose of answering the research question:

“Does being in-home quarantine affect your intrapersonal skills?” Respondents are selected

based on their experience and knowledge of what is needed to gain information on the research.

Research Instruments

The researchers used a form of self-made questionnaire to conform with the study's

required details. Based on the readings of the researcher, prior reports, scholarly literature,

published and unpublished thesis related to the report, the draft questionnaire was drawn up. The

23
criteria for the design of a successful data collection instrument have been considered in the

planning of the instrument. The first part consisted of questions about the demographic profiles

of BSN students of Olivarez College Tagaytay, while the second part, consisted of questions that

will determine the impact of home quarantine on intrapersonal skills specifically analytical

thinking, productivity, resourcefulness, and resilience. The instrument will be used is to obtain

legal and valid responses of the respondents/ students.

Validity and Reliability Test

Reliability and authenticity are concepts that are used to assess the consistency of study,

Middleton (2020). Reliability is about the accuracy of a measure, and the precision of a measure

is about validity. There are 4 types of reliability test, those are test-retest reliability, interrater

reliability, parallel forms reliability, and internal consistency. Validity test has also 4 types, those

are construct validity, content validity, face validity, and criterion validity. The survey form

presented will undergo the three phases of reliability and validity testing with a chronback alpha

acceptable value if 0.7. The most common indicator of internal consistency is Cronbach's alpha

("reliability"). It is most widely used in a survey/questionnaire when the researcher have several

Likert questions that is in a scale and the researcher want to decide if the scale is accurate.

administrators. respondents.

Figure 2.0 Data Gathering Procedure Flow Chart

The researchers will request the approval of school administrator to conduct study on

selected students during School Year 2020-2021.

The researchers will ask permission from the respondents by means of a letter consisting

of a complete statement ensuring that, if they are willing to participate in the study, the privacy

of any data of the respondents will provide. If the respondents agree to participate, the

researchers will then let the respondents answer the questionnaire.

The researchers will distribute the questionnaires to the selected respondents online via

google sheets. The study will be conducted from the third week of January 2021 until the first

week of March 2021. Respondents will be asked to provide information and answer the

questionnaires honestly.

25
The information and data that the researchers collected from the questionnaire answered

by the respondents will be used as the foundation of this study. After collecting the data, they

will be recorded, tabulated, and subjected to statistical analysis.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The following statistical methods were used to interpret the results gathered:

Frequency count

According to Korb (2013), frequency statistics essentially count the number of

occurrences of each variable. It is used in tallying the choice of respondents between internet and

books, efficiency level of internet and academic performance of the students. It is the most

straightforward approach to work with quantitative data. Items are classified according to a

particular skill and an arithmetical count is made of number of items within the text which

belong to each classification in the sentence. It was done by counting and tabulating the

occurrence of responses.

Percentage

The “percent” lists the actual percentages of the total sample who answered the

questionnaires. Statistics Canada (2015) mentioned that percentage is one of the most frequent

ways to represent statistics.

Mean

26
This pertains to the average value for all the data gathered. Salkind (2010) stated that the

mean is a parameter that measures the central position of a random variable distribution and is an

important statistic frequently mentioned in scientific literature.

A scale value was assigned to each response. Starting with a particular point of view, all

statements favoring position were scored.

Value Scale Weighted Mean Range Verbal Interpretation

4 3.26 - 4.00 High Impact

3 2.51 - 3.25 Moderate Impact

2 1.76 - 2.50 Low Impact

1 1.00 - 1.75 Very Low Impact

Figure 2.1 Table of Measurement of Variables

Variance

Variance is a measure how far each value in the data set is from the mean. As stated by

Bhandari (2020), a measure of uncertainty is the variance. By taking the mean of squared

deviations from the mean, it is determined. In your data collection, Variance shows you the

degree of distribution. The more the data is distributed, the higher the variance is compared to

the mean.

27
Standard Deviation

The standard deviation formula is similar to the variance formula. It is only gotten

through solving the square root of variance. The total amount of uncertainty in your sample is the

standard deviation. On average, this shows you how far each value lies from the average. A high

standard deviation suggests that values are usually far from the mean, while a low standard

deviation reveals that values are grouped close to the mean. (Bhandari, 2020)

ANOVA or Analysis of Variance

The researchers will use ANOVA to determine the impact of home quarantine to the

intrapersonal skills of BSN students in Olivarez College Tagaytay. According to Kenton (2016)

Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is a predictive analysis technique that separates the observable

aggregate variability contained within a data set into two parts: systemic and random variables.

Systematic factors have a predictive effect on the data collection presented, whereas random

factors do not. To assess the impact that independent variables have on the dependent variable in

a regression analysis, researchers use the ANOVA test.

28
Hypothesis Testing

Z Test

The researchers will use Z test for the hypothesis testing. Drury (2020), stated that a z-

test is a regression test used where the variances are identified and the sample size is high to

determine if two population definitions are distinct. The test statistics are supposed to have a

normal distribution, and for an effective z-test to be done, nuisance parameters such as standard

deviation should be known.
