Job purpose

Initiating and/or implementing a production schedule and man-hour estimates for


completion of a job assignment. Orders the required materials and supplies for completion
of a job. Assigns duties and adjusts work procedures/schedules to meet production
schedules. Ensures that workers accomplish required job assignments. Maintains employee
time and certification records. Ensures that yard safety rules and regulations are carried
out. Carries out other duties as assigned by the VP Production for the following shops;

Duties and responsibilities

1. Responsible for the mooring and dry-docking operation, and supervision of all work of the
Docking Department, including the Carpenter Shop.
2. Responsible for formulating a blocking plan to accommodate each vessel the yard docks as
each one has different and varying requirements.
3. Weight calculations to determine which hauling device vessel can be hauled on.
4. Also assigned the responsibility to ensure that all vessels in Lyon Shipyard’s custody are
berthed and secured in a manner that will ensure their safety under constantly changing
weather and sea conditions.
5. Does cost estimating and maintains liaison with customers to promote good customer
relations.
6. Tasked with the responsibility to maintain all railways and associated equipment in a good
state of repair.
7. Act as liaison with job estimator. Provide calculations on hours involved, materials needed,
and staff required.
8. Recognize and communicate to Foreman any priority projects or problems, such as
employee or job costing issues.
9. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed, bring problems
to the attention of the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, QA Manager or HR.
10. Coordinate, direct and lead workers engaged in shipbuilding activities. Assign work to
employees, using material and worker requirements data.
11. Supervise crews to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction,
morale, communication, commitment, teamwork and pride.

Work Environment
Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme
heat, near moving mechanical parts and includes occasional exposure to wet and/or humid
conditions and to vibration.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The
employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or
move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This
position periodically requires long hours and weekend work. Regular and predictable on-
site attendance is an essential function and a prerequisite to perform other essential
functions of the position.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although periodic out-of-the-area and
overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
1. High school degree or equivalent.
Preferred Education or Experience
Education based on requirements that are job-related and consistent with the business
necessity.
