M-2 Question Bank 1

This document is a question bank for the subject of Multivariate Calculus for first-year engineering students at Indira College of Engineering and Management for the academic year 2024-25. It includes various differential equations to solve, as well as applications of differential equations related to cooling, electrical circuits, and charge on a capacitor. The questions are organized into three main sections: solving differential equations, applications of differential equations, and specific problems related to temperature and current in circuits.

Q III Applications of Differential Equations
1 A body at temperature 1000 𝐶 is placed in a room whose temperature is 200 𝐶 and
cools at 600 𝐶 in 5 minutes. Find it’s temperate after a further interval of 3 minutes.
2 According to Newton’s law of cooling, the rate at which a substance cools in
moving air is proportional to the difference between the temperature of the
substance and that of the air. If the temperature of the air is 300 𝑐 and the substance
cools 1000 𝑐 to 700 𝑐 in 15 minutes, Find when temperature will be 400 𝑐.
3 A resistance of 250 ohms and an inductance of 640 Henry are connected in series
with a battery of 500 volts. Find the current in the circuit if i=0 at t=0.
4 The Charge q on the plate of condenser of capacity c charged through a resistance R
𝑑𝑞 𝑞
by a steady state voltage v satisfies D.E. 𝑅 𝑑𝑡 + 𝑐 = 𝑣
−𝑡
If q=0 at t=0 Show that q= 𝑐𝑣 [1 − 𝑒 𝑅𝑐 ] also find current flowing into the plate
