Section/s:
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards: The learners will demonstrate an understanding of:
How the various structures of the circulatory and respiratory systems work together to
transport oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to different parts of the body.
The prevention, detection, and treatment of diseases affecting the circulatory and
respiratory systems.
B. Performance Standards: The learners should be able to:
Conduct an information dissemination activity on effective ways to take care of the
respiratory and circulatory systems, using data gathered from school or local health
workers.
C. Learning Competency / LEARNING COMPETENCY
Objectives Explain how the respiratory and circulatory systems work together to transport nutrients,
gases, and other molecules to and from the different parts of the body.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of lesson, the students are expected to:
1. Explain how the lungs work.
2. Describe how the movement of the diaphragm helps the air go in and out of the
lungs.
3. Create a model of the human chest activity.
II. CONTENT MODEL OF HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
III. LEARNING RESOURCES Science Learner’s Module 9
Model of the Respiratory System
IV. CLASSROOM-BASED Classroom Routine:
ACTIVITIES 1. Prayer
2. Reminder of the classroom rules and health and safety protocols
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Quick “kumustahan”
Recall the different parts of the Respiratory System.
5. SCIVOCAB
A. RECALL/ELICIT Air pressure – refers to the force or pressure exerted by the air within your lung tissue
(Reviewing Previous and airways.
Lesson or Presenting Expand – increase in size, volume, quantity, or scope.
New Lesson ) Contracts – refers to the action of the muscles that causes the lungs to decrease in
volume or size.
Chest Cavity - protects several vital organs, including the heart, lungs, and major blood
vessels.
Have you ever experienced being in a jam-packed train or bus? What did you feel?
How will you relate this to the air molecules inside our lungs?
B. ENGAGE
(Establishing a Purpose for
the Lesson)
GROUP ACTIVITY
Each group will do Activity 2. “Bottled Balloons”. They will make a Human Chest Cavity model as
shown below.
C. EXPLORE
(Presenting Examples /
Instances of the Lesson)
Guide Questions:
1. What does each part of the constructed lung model represent?
2. What happens as you pull down the balloon at the bottom of the model?
3. What happens as you push up the balloon?
4. How does the movement of the diaphragm cause the air to go in and out of the lungs?
What might happen if you prick the balloon?
D. EXPLAIN
(Discussing New
Concepts and Practicing
New Skills#1)
E. ELABORATE/ Ask students for any clarification.
GENERALIZATION)

Concepts and Practicing
New Skills#2
F. EVALUATION Write TRUE or FALSE on the space provided.
(Evaluating Learning)
_____ 1. When you inhale, the diaphragm muscle contracts.
_____ 2. When you exhale, the diaphragm muscle contracts.
_____ 3. When you inhale, there is an increase in the size of the chest cavity.
_____ 4. When you inhale, there is less space and higher air pressure.
_____ 5. When you exhale, diaphragm muscle relaxes.
