Introduction

SETTING UP INSTAGRAM
Before we dig deep into the Introspection, Creation, and Monetization
process, let’s begin with understanding a few basics of the Instagram
platform.

1. PICKING A USERNAME

A username is something that is very personal to creators. It is something

each one is known by and it's unique to them. However, there is more to it.
Your username also represents your brand and what you stand for. A
combination of your name and what your brand is/wants to stand for is an
excellent place to start.

There is no right or wrong approach to choosing a username. But here are a

few best practices that can help you select one which is easy for your
audience to recall and retain.

Do's:
Keep it cool, simple, and authentic.
Pick the one that is easy to remember and pronounce.
Ensure it's simple and short to avoid confusion.

Don'ts:
Avoid unnecessary jargon.
Big NO to lengthy usernames (ideally not more than 10-12 characters).
Do not use other popular creators' usernames with slight modifications
like using underscore/dots, to draw traction on your account. This won't
add any value to your brand.

2. CONNECTING WITH FACEBOOK

It's essential to link your Facebook Page to your Instagram professional

account to make the most out of the tools available. Before you begin,
please ensure you have admin access to your Facebook Page and
Instagram account and follow the steps below:

Open the Instagram app on your smartphone and go to your profile.

To access the menu, tap the three horizontal lines in the top-right
corner.
Select "Settings" in the menu.

Facebook Page to your Instagram
account. When you publish to Instagram,
you can toggle the "Share to Facebook"
option to automatically share your posts
to your associated Facebook Page.

3. TYPE OF ACCOUNT - PERSONAL, BUSINESS, CREATOR

Instagram allows you to create an account that serves a specific purpose.

The three account types on Instagram are Personal, Business, and Creator
account.

Personal Account

A personal account is the most common type of Instagram account used

by individuals for personal use to connect with friends and family. They
allow users to share their photos, videos, and stories with their followers.

4
By setting the account to either public or private, you can control who
can see your content on Instagram.
Through personal accounts, you get access to all the basic features of
Instagram, like -

Posting photos and videos, sharing stories, going live, using filters
and stickers.
Engaging with other users through comments and direct messages.
Complete access to Instagram’s music library with insights on
trending music as well.

However, you don't have visibility on advanced analytics about your

followers, reach, and engagement.

Please note that a personal public account is different from a creator

account. Having a creator's account over a public personal account has
a few significant advantages. Along with access to professional
insights on each piece of content you upload, a creator’s account also
gives you access to Instagram’s marketplace. Using this feature you
can easily reach out to the brands that align with your target audience
and sign brand deals to monetize.

MONETIZATION FEATURES

Monetization features are available only for business and creator

accounts. Here are a few ways they are helpful -

The creators can use the ‘brand tags’ where they can add a "Paid
Partnership with" tag to sponsored posts, which helps them convey to
their followers that a post is sponsored or paid for. Doing this helps
the creator build trust with their audience through transparency. Note
that being trusted by the audience makes one's personal branding
game stronger.
The Business accounts that run these brand campaigns get direct
access to the insights for that particular sponsored post, to avoid any
level of miscommunication, data tampering, etc.
Instagram's Brand Collabs Manager helps creators find brand
partnerships and monetize their content.

Identifying and using the appropriate type of Instagram account plays a

crucial step in letting Instagram algorithms know how to reach your target
audience. Choose wisely.
